I would absolutely love to get rid of the "grenade" type traps we have now and replace them with this bow idea.

"Daddy, what's that bad man doing to my (Star Wars)?"

"Son, that bad man is (SOE), and he's **edit**ing your (Star Wars)."

That would mean sharing the Bow with the Scouting profession (to replace those traps as well).

I am not adverse to the idea...

However the Bow begun as a topic on making the Rangers unique...

And such a suggestion would go against that concept.

Anyone else want to pipe up on this subject?

We already have traps that do poison, they just aren't a DoT. Anyway, I think crafting poison/disease into existing weapons is more practical and, considering such weapons are in the game, more likely to be implemented. And with this I wouldn't be averse to needing extremely rare resources/drops to be needed (eg a mantrigue screecher's gland 1 in 1000 drops, very rare flora, etc).

"We already have traps that do poison"

I thought the concept of Poison was related specifically to that "Skull and Crossbones" image you receive occassionally when fighting spiders and snakes.

I don't recall any of our traps performing that effect, though I have not used them all.

Which ones are you refering to?

I'm not supper keen on the bow idea in any other capacity, so if it is implemented I wouldn't have much problem sharing it with Scout as long as it does something to enhance our traps...

Maybe the more elaborate arrows, like the explosive arrows, poison arrows, disease arrows and possibly bleed arrows would only be available to Rangers?

We should have to buy explosive components from Weaponsmiths, while we could buypoison and disease components from Combat Medics.

Revamp the old Scout traps to be arrows with the same effects, thats fine by me.

How about weighted or hooked nets? Maybe that could be the answer to our Area Effect Snare?

  • We could make nets using Metal and Polymer that have a few charges just as traps do.

  • Weighted Nets would act as a full AE Root

  • Hooked Nets would act as a AE Snare with a minor Bleed DoT

Agreed.

But... That is the way the current trapping system works now, once again making us an intricate extension of the Scouting profession.

Mind you... It's never bothered me that we are simply advanced Scouts.

We should be really good Advanced Scouts however.

If it is a matter of just being an extension of Scouting, then make bows a Ranger only item and give us arrow versions of the Scout traps (plus a few others) that effect humanoids as well...

Thats not too hard, right?...

I am not against being a Scout 2.0 as long as the extra items we get as Rangers are "Elite" enough to justify spending all the points on this profession.

More ideas for the bow:

  • Increase the range to 60m.

  • Cannot be fired while prone.

  • Target does not immediately attack despite being concealed and/or kneeling

  • Doesn't aggro social creatures until the target actually retaliates.

No one liked the net ideas? Darn, I thought I was on to something!

I have to agree some great ideas here! I am a ranger still coming up but reading this actually makes me excited to be Ranger. I hope the DEVS see this and are listening some great ideas, and superb format. Thanks Nrass(hope I spelled that right), bow sounds interesting but with or without the other ideas should be implemented.

I am an almost master ranger (3/4/4/4) on Bloodfin.

When I first decided to change my mind from becoming a BH to master ranger/master rifleman, I thought for sure that rifleman would be the more valuable of the 2.

But now I am happy to see the ranger profession being looked at and talked about on these forums with such intensity. Who ever said that about the rifleman forums being nothing but complaints...you are right!

I would like to express my thoughts on the harvester idea, and I think its a bad one. Pretty much takes the hunt out of the hunt don't you think? There are a few good alternate suggestions such as the pit trap.

What I would like to see is some sort of ranger specific weapon of some kind. If it is a bow then so be it. Personally I'd like to see some sort of hunting rifle, though that brings up class issues.

I love the idea of a hunting cabin, I would put it on a nice hill top somewhere on Yavin.

But to close my list of random ramblings, spending 50 hide, 35 bone and 20 metal for a HTFB (did I get that right?) and then having it disband in 30 seconds because one little creature ran up and said boo...is just plain not right.

I'm sure this has been said but if so it's worth repeating. By the time you reach Frontering IV, you have no need for wildnerness survival XP again, ever. Therefore allowing these camps to be a bit more permanent will not have the effect of people spamming them for XP. Also how about the idea of paying upkeep on a camp in the form of hides or other components, much like you pay maintence ona house. You could just pay some form of hides or bone or whatnot when using a base for an extended hunt.

Just my 2 republic credits on the issue...

Here's something to add to the /examine window:

- Either take out the 'Tamable: yes/no' line for non-CH PC's. It's senseless to have their; you can't tame anything.

L darts and P darts are poison. it's just that the poison damage is dealt at once. The posion effect you are referring to is the DoT or damage over time. There's no doubt that those poions arevastly more powerful than the poisons in our traps, but we do have poison. The reason I bring it up is that it sets the precedent that even at novice scout (L dart) we are using poison, so it should make the case stronger for us having better abilities to handle poison at ranger.

I still like the idea of crafting it into a weapon though rather than have a separate delivery system such as a trap.

I really wouldn't consider that 'poisen.' Sure, it says it, and does damage, but it's more or less called that to explain why it has an effect at all
