mmmm RIS is like Darth Vader's armor crossed with Samurai Armor, yum.
I practice Ken-Jujitsu in RL so I have a thing for Samurai style armor.

All I have got to say is that i have faith the devs know what they are doing. I think they will do what they feel is best for us, and we will be happy in the end. Besides- I am looking forward to trying armor besides Ubese or Comp. Seeing diverse armor is going to be AWESOME. Just imagine- you walk into the mining outpost on Dantooine, and people are wearing all sorts of odd armor pieces instead of beaked-face uniform armor. I am really gonna have some fun making an armor suit out of every type I am certified for :-D

having looked at the document on armour crafting, and making some assumptions, it is almost certain that you will be able to get a custom suit of Battle armour made that has more kinetic protection than basic unmodified assault armour.
You can have 4 layers in a segment and up to 3 segments in a core for an armour component.
Each layer will increase the resistance to a single damage type, whilst decreasing the resistance to it's natural opposite :
Kinetic <--> Energy
Cold <--> Heat
Acid <--> Electricity
So ...... a basic (lightweight) suit of Battle Armour with a single Kinetic layer in it, might well be similar in protections and penalties to a basic suit of Assault armour with no layers.
Of course - this is all conjecture, but from reading the documents, the AS forum and seeing the screenie of the looted core (from a fambaa I think) this seems the most logical implementation.
In other words, I don't think battle armour is a big problem at all (in fact we get to wear RIS, which is great)
Shame about the mandalorian certification, but I never understood why Rangers got that in the first place.

Since no one can make armor just yet.
Recon armor get a defacto resist to energy. I beleieve the quote from the devs was consider it a free energy layer or Segement.
Battle armor is the Neutral Armor no free anything.
Assault get a "Free" Kinetic layer.
So increasing Kinetic reduces the resistance to enery based attacks.
So using an advanced core with 4 layers all experiemented out in Kinetic should give you a suit of armor that will protect the Ranger from most MOBS, just don't get shot at wearing this armor.
I would imagine it will be like wearing Ubese is now. I can crank out 75% kinetic Ubese now but the base resist is around 19%.
I think we will see more custom armor requests in the future rather than just buying off the shelf.
The armorsmith makes layers, which go into segements, which go into cores, which go into Armor Skins.
There are now 3 types of cores versus the old two types of Segments of which no one ever used the basic version of.
So I don't think Rangers are getting shafted by being certed for battle armor.

Hehe we get battle armor cause Assult has evil hinderances. Recon is the "lighest" but it takes a hit to Kinetic.
I pulled a set of each type and had a look, when they came out on the frogs.
They gave us the best thing they could within the new system.
TC came right back down but, you can go have a look for your self in a bit.

My hunter (note, I didn't say "my ranger" as the results from getting the first skillbox of an elite combat prof does not look too promising regarding the health/conbatlevel-issue) will be armorless, I might aim at a tkm based tank template with scout 3040 ...

So I asked him if he was certd for Mandalorian armour and ,guess what, he wasnt, so I pointed out that as it is the uberest armour in the game,
Ehm....
As we talk "current live" here (as you speak about Mando being certed for Master Rangers) I have to tell you Mandalorian is *far* from the "uberest", it's actually quite bad and mostly a "show-off" item with little real usefulness :-).

It is showoff and most importantly we dont know how it will be implemented in the CU.
When you do the mando quest you could just be given some armour or you could be given a limited use schematic that an armoursmith uses. I think it will be the later as it will allow you to put whatever advanced core you want in it and have stats in line with the other armours.

Yup, posr-curb mando might be somewhat "usable" but I talked about the current situation

Ah yeah i know and i agree, i was just wondering how its going to be implemented in the CU. The quests armour decay needs adressing too, or i would like to see it addressed. I wish it could be deconstructed once down to low condition and then an armoursmith could build it up again, sort of like salvage the skin you would get so you never 'loose' your armour and wouldnt have to do the epic quests again. You would just have to get an amoursmith to make you it up again (as to not make armoursmiths loose business).
You would essentially be paying for a new armour set, however you would have the quest skin and could use it all the time.
