our experimentation on traps, camo kits and camps should come from our ranger/scout skills and not be based on an artisan ability

I'm currently a Master Ranger/TKA 4-2-3-3 & the only reason you'd ever need ranged is if you plan on PvP. I currently can seperate mobs using adhesive mesh (root) traps, knock them down and beat them up before the trap wears off and the rooted mob comes in for his lickings(kinda tricky sometimes, but still managing). I do agree that a Ranger bow would make this combination even much more appealing, especially if they allow us to attack something other than animals with it. It would definately make Rangers useful in PvP, the ability to root/snare (if they allow trap conversions) a pc at range alone would make melee PvP'ers love us.

I like this idea.

A blowgun with poison or tranquilizing darts would be nice... or heck... a modern dart gun like they use on rhinos and stuff.. that would work too.

My apologies for not reading through all the threads becouse I am sure it was addresses, but just stressing the importance of it. Track/player/animal/peoplesucks...... Had to get that out, lol. I hit Master Ranger about a week ago, and I was honestly expecting some improvement. Im on Dantooine right now looking for some pets. When I track the farthest I will get is maybe 500m mobs, and even then it may not be accurate, to whereas my radar will pick up mobs up to 250mout. So, as a Master Ihave the 'huge" advantage of tracking creatures 250m further than if I were not aRanger at all. Ranger, IMO, is not really a combat class, but a support class. Rangers should have very good tracking abilities. Novice level should get up 750m or roughly tracking. With each block trained in Tracking, the Ranger should recieve an extra 500m or so per block. Also, once the track is done, the Ranger should have a direct idea of the location of the creature, kind of like a WP, or a variation of such since creatures are mobile. A sort option, or a way to search for a certain kind would be nice too

Thanks for all the hard work

My Ranger wish List

By Newb (Intrepid Master Ranger)

**Disclaimer - I know many of these issues have been brought up already, so if i restate them, it is simply because I am voting for it as well **

Camouflage/Maskscent

1. Going prone does not seems to affect camo much (nor does walking, wearing +camou outfits) at master ranger level. I perceive the wayfaring line as a sort of a spy/infiltrator skill line.

2. Camo works while mounted but maskscent does not. Please fix mask scent to do the same.

3. Creatures/NPC's who ignore maskscent: Nightsister Elders (possibly intended), Various thugs

4. Please make camo work in PVP (at LEAST on just the radar, forcing players to actually visually find you, or maybe just make them unable to target you at a distance, or even just give to-hit penaltys e.g. blindness)

Fishing/Camping

1. Force Field does VERY little damage to creatures, needs to be increased a lot.

2. Tracking for fish (as it is now the only way to check the density of a fishing spot is to actually fish)

3. Please take out the campfire from the high tech field base, it looks stupid surrounded by satellite dishes and the like. You would think there would be some sort of high tech fire, or a stove.

4. Camps are damaged upon dying but weapons are not. Why should campkits need insurance? Same goes for tthe highly expensive insurance on crafting tools, and clothing. Items that cannot be repaired shouldnt be damaged.

5. Scale the actual size of the fish corresponding to the size in the description for use as decoration in houses.

6. Add rare fish and rare misc catches for rangers while fishing (ala UO?). Everything else is mutantly big on some planets, why not the fish? (I know they stated they are working on this)

7. Add lure fishing (small reel in, small reel in, small reel in, Bite!)

8. Add quality to bait, and types of fish caught by type of bait used.

9. Make the best fishing spots high vegitation/high density spots (they are the hardest to find and the most challenging)

10. High level rangers should be able to pull in more fish meat than scouts (at master ranger i get fish of the exact same size as novice scout)

** Please do more work on fishing, its a neat thing to have in the game and more detail would be highly appreciated by many of us. **

Traps

1. Traps are useless. Fix me.

2. there is no trap for level 4 trapping.

3. there is no trap for master ranger.

4. Camo kits work on npc's, why wont traps? (sorry to restate this, i know its on the list)

5. Trapping should be part of the tracking line and renamed hunting or some such thing.

Looting/Foraging

1. Better chance for rangers to get special creature drops than normal (krayt pearls etc etc).

2. Foraging sucks. Fix me.

3. No rare item in forage as claimed in the skill description.

4. Exactly the same crap foraged as novice scout (just more of it, but still utterly useless)

5. Make forage usable in NPC structures, possibly changing the item type found (sorta like buried treasures! argh matey argh)

Misc. Ideas and suggestions

1. Gives rangers things to make that anybody can use (making us more economically valuable) such as fishing poles (why is this an artisan item?), fishing nets, scent spray (like a maskscent that nonrangers can use).

2. Rangers should have special uses for pets for hunting purposes like a retrieve command that causes the pet to bring a creature corpse to you, or perhaps the ability to make a pet aPACK ANIMAL(seems more appropriate for rangers than CH who get too much love already).

3. A skill for "packing" that allows a ranger to pack more things in his backpack and inventory than normal (maybe it could be used directly on the container).

My 3 cents

"Creatures/NPC's who ignore maskscent"

I presume you meant /conceal here, rather than /maskscent.

"Force Field does VERY little damage to creatures"

the force field in the HTFB actually does damage? I thought it was just for show.

"Thanx for the correction, yes I meant maskscent."

Say what? /maskscent does not affect humanoid NPCs.

With the suggestion of ranger bow, might I make a suggestion, that Ranger have the option to craft this themselves, and have have to craft arrows for it as well,.

This would give the option of making arrows to do special jobs, better and better bows could be crafted as you move up the profession, it would add a lot to the profession and keeping your arrow supply stocked wouldn't be than onerous of a chore.

Experimentation could be added so that newer and more deadly arrows could be crafted, Bow range speed accuracy all could be factors.

Just my two cents worth.

A bow would suck.. make it a hi-tech dart gun. This is Star Wars for goodness sakes.. not EverQuest!

NRass, you have got to be the most thorough correspondant there is. Great job.

I am a Master Ranger and I always tell my friends that I should be able to make trophies, I can't believe other people were thinking this too, I thought I was alone in this. You know, like a Bantha skin rug or mounted Kimo head, stuff like that. Also the HTFB really needs to stay up in combat, I know this is on the list but I don't think people are stessing this enough.

As for the whole identity crisis, I really can't see where people think that ranger is not at least somewhat of a combat class. I can't think of any RPG I've ever played that the ranger class didn't have combat skills. I love the idea of a ranger weapon.

Keep up the great job NRaas, thanks alot for speaking out for all of us.
