"Owen,
I noticed that several Corrs on other forums were asking this same question. Does this indicate yet another wave of updates for Droid Engineer while Ranger and several other professions continue to receive little or no attention?"
Sorry i didnt respond to this sooner, calc caught it for me though (thanks mate
)
This debate is simply because a person from the DE forums was asked by the DE corr to find out what each profession would like in the future as far as droid functionality goes, this doesnt in any way mean DE's are going to get another revamp. Infact id expect they would be one of the last professions in the list to get revamped (again). Its just someone asked me to find out what you thought, he did the same for alot of professions too, hence the posts.
man i cant believe ive just said "hence"

I'm currently debating in another thread, and I just had an idea.
Currently we have droids in which we can store schematics and way points. How about broadening this skill so far we can store missions too? We go to a mission terminal, take two missions, open datapad and drag and drop the missions into the droid. Then get two more missions, rinse and repeat up to the limit of the droid.
I'd like this, it would reduce the time I have to spend going in and out of cities.
I'm not sure if we should keep this as a ranger only facility or not. Opinions?

I think you could do this at some point, but the Devs removed the 'feature'.

Anyone else like the idea? If nothing is too big or too small, then it could be resurrected, even if it is just a hunter tool.

It would be nice to have but it was removed for the money grind reason (sort of like the solo group nerf). I personally think having /track would be more than enough (as it would probably be similar to a mission terminal without payout), especially considering the whining that more missions would cause. Once we get /track, we shouldn't need to run missions at all.

I'd agree on one condition. That they fix creature spawns. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems that I can track several times in the same place, don't see anything I want, get on my swoop, ride along a couple hundred meters, then a load of creatures spawn around me that weren't on my area track.

"A thumper droid -- think Dune (tm) here -- you could take this droid into one of the many now desolate areas (ie., our former hunting grounds), and have it jump start the spawns. One of these droids would be the equivalent of telling the server - hey master ranger here who wants to hunt in this area, could I please get some spawns."
Everybody needs one of these. The spawn system either seems to spawn30 lairs within 100 meters of each other, or none at all.

I don't see how long range tracking would help much. Nothing spawns til you are within a 100 meters, and appearantly despawns when you move far away.
How about a driod that allows shock wounds to be healed in camp.

I agree that tracking droids for creatures and NPCs might not be a bad thing, but I dont think we (Ranger's) should get Man Tracking via a droid because that steps clearly into Bounty Hunter territory.
Though using droids to find creatures might make Rangering way too easy and could make the profession about simply bouncing from spawn to spawn, when in effect its all about exploration, and YOU doing the actual tracking.
Perhaps instead of a droid persay, set up some kind of stationary 'listening' device to see if something comes by. Then what the Ranger could do is make camp, set up a perimeter using these devices. Combined with a base camp (Field Base or better) this could increase the tracking range, using the base camp as the center.
You could set up the 'listening' devices either as a circle around camp or in a straight line (like have each device have a 512M range (tunable, greater range = less accuracy), set them up so they overlap, so if something enters the listening range of the device at the end of the change, it can relay postion via the other devices back to you at the base camp.
This would allow the choice of greatly extending tracking range in a given compass direction or give the option to have a full coverage with a smaller range.
Recap
Perhaps allow up to 9 tracking devices to be used together (either in a straight line or just enough to form a circle around your camp). They would stack like Survey droids, you set their range like a survey tool, and you place them simply by dropping them (they would not be recoverable, but you could shut them off, and despawn them). They would require the Ranger have a Field Base or High Tech Field Base deployed. Ranger would access the listening devices results via a console in the base camp.
Have some kind of ability for a Bounty Hunter to tap into this information. Basically have a Ranger set up & deploy the listening network, and the BH or the ranger could look at the tracking data (inside the base camp)
SOme changes that would have to happen
Base camps should NOT get auto-abandoned if the Ranger goes into combat (base camps only)
Applications
Man tracking - setup listening grids near an area where a BH has tracked his mark, or have a Jedi hire a Ranger to set up a grid to watch for a BH.
Wandering NPC/Creature tracking - make finding a wanderer less random, set up grid out in the boonies and wait to see what walks thru.
GCW - early warning system, if a enemy force approaches, a factional base could get warning, and data about the attacking force's composition
