Ok i hate to say this, but i need to make a poll heh. Yes i know, i know but honestly its important. I need to show the devs exactly how much negative impact the CU is going to have on ranger and why ranger needs their revamp asap.
Its going to be part of my report that im writing atm explaining why so many of us are pissed, upset that we didnt get any attention and how concerned we are about what is geing to happen to ranger between the end of the CU up until the ranger revamp hits.
So i put it to you:
In regards tothe CU and the information that has come out(or lack thereof),will you be dropping ranger?
Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?
Is it only temporary until the revamp?
Please answer truthfully about your current plans.
cheers, owen
No. Nothing anyone can do will make me drop Ranger. And, I intend to Master it.
Because the first enjoyabl thing that I did in this game was hunting with friends. I enjoy the abilities we have, even if they are miniscule in comparison to others
No, it is not temporary. I finally found a template that can work for me - Teras Kasi Master, and Master Ranger.
In regards to the CU and the information that has come out (or lack thereof), will you be dropping ranger?
I will see how things pan out first. Things don't look too good for Rangers thus far though. ![]()
Why are/arn't you dropping it?
I am willing to give the new system a shot and give the Devs the chance to iron out the remaining bugs/oversights which no doubt will be present. I will try my hardest to remain a Master Ranger after the CU. However, if it no longer becomes fun and I find that I am severly limited in my gameplay options, then I may have no choice but to pack away my camp, hang up my duster and retire from this 'lifestyle' I love ![]()

Revamp you say?!? As long as it's not renamed an 'upgrade'! ![]()
Well, I'm quite new to the rangering profession (only been at it for about a week or so, currently 4-4-4-0 -- going to master -- along with my elite comb. prof, Rifleman). I figured I might as well post what I'm going to doin regards to the CU withmyranger character, Ikira of Naritus:
In regards tothe CU and the information that has come out(or lack thereof),will you be dropping ranger?
- No, I do not plan to drop ranger in any way (i.e. I plan on staying master whenI reach it)
Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?
- As to the why (for those curious and for just pure polling purposes) I created my ranger character, Ikira, based on the same philosophy that I have created all of my others characters with: roleplaying first, mechanics second. I figured that if I was truly going to have fun with this game and it's various unique professions I would like to partake in, I would consider why I wanted a certain character to be a certain thing. For my ranger, Ikira, I wanted to template her as a ranger/rifleman because I wanted to play as that type of character, without having considered the in-game mechanics on the effectiveness of such a character. I asked myself"WouldI like playing with this character even if she wasn't the most useful, 'uber', and rich character?" In short, I created my ranger with the fun of being a ranger/rifleman, not being the strongest/richest/etc. in mind.In summation, due to thisI will not now, nor do I ever plan on dropping this profession as my character would just not be who I created her to be and had fun playing as.
Is it only temporary until the revamp?
- Doesn't apply, I'm not dropping it.
In regards tothe CU and the information that has come out(or lack thereof),will you be dropping ranger?
I will mostly likely drop the camping and trapping trees in ranger as they serve no use atmI may yet drop it alltogeher as hunting high lvl mobs is almost impossible without two combat masteries in your template.
Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?
To invest 140 skill points into a broken profession is to much of a burden to bear in the new combat system. I would make a better harvester as a novice scout and 2 elite combat masteries.
Is it only temporary until the revamp?
If I am waiting anymore than 2-3months for a revamp i will most likely cancel my accounts or barring that the revamp being a poorly attempted fix.

No
Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?
Ranger is all I know, but Ranger is becoming nothing at all. Sadly, if that is the case, I see my SWG days coming to an end. No more hunts. No campfire stories. I'm sure some other profession will soon be crafting camps as well.

Revamp? Oh, that thing that was going to happen years ago? What a slap in the face, after all the hard work that has been done on these forums. Shame to the devs.
Probably won't be dropping it. If I do, I will be only doing that for FS boxes, which I don't grind at all, so they grow 1 box in a few weeks if that. Eventually if it's gonna be really bad to be a ranger, I'll try my hands at going for the Jedidom, but PVP is something I absolutely despise so who knows.
Why are/arn't you dropping it?
I really like being a ranger, like the harvesting, the tracking (even though it's a terrible implementation), the camping, trapping is meh. However I find it really sad that Novice Scout can harvest close to what I harvest, there should be a linear increment with a big bonus at the Master Ranger box. I know we get +60 now, but it doesn't work very well, a Novice Scout has +15 harvest right, well if he gets 15 something off a creature, I should get 150 something, but it's nowhere near that. So all those points are wasted for no advantage in that area, anyway I like being a ranger for the pure RP reasons and camo kits too, but those will only take me so far. However, I won't quit, but as long as I can have more fun doing other things than ranger duties, well I will only keep the title for RP and cause I like having it. Even though Droid Commander is growing on me, and might change my permanent title to that

Heh, been playing SOE games for a while now, so not holding my breath. I would be happy to be proven wrong and get a revamp in a few months (few does not mean 16 or something silly like that) but honestly we are just kidding ourselves with that. Sadly, the ones who want to make it a great game, are rarely in charge of what goes into the game. Whether we like it or not, the game is run as a business, money talks and if somebody in there projects that it doesn't matter if they lose all rangers, because the movie will bring in enough players to compensate for those people, that will be it.
RANGERS LEAD THE WAY!!!
In regards to the CU and the information that has come out (or lack thereof), will you be dropping ranger?
No... Since I started playing this game I was master musician/master swordsman. It was a long, difficult decision to decide to drop musician for ranger (yet another strange pairing of professions!), but I realized that I was having more fun hunting for friends than I was occasionally mind buffing people. (Mainly with all the buffbots that had both master dancer master musician I couldn't compete.)
Why are/arn't you dropping it?
Right around the same time that I decided to switch over to ranger, my boyfriend created an armorsmith character. With how hard it is going to be to kill creatures to begin with, it will be even more difficult to gather enough creature resources. Unfortunately with the crappy HAM deal we're getting, even with master swordsman I doubt I will be able to hunt on my own to collect resources for both the armorsmith and for the other crafters in my guild. My guild is very good about getting groups together to go gather high quality resources for one another, so hopefully we'll be able to still do that after the CURB. I'm not like other rangers in that it's a solitary lifestyle thing... I'm more social and like to do things that help others out.

I have already dropped it I'm affraid.
I left because I wanted to be more effective in the GCW, and more helpful with more opportunity to interact with my guild, that just doesn't happen when you're out hunting, by yourself, for Rori Avian meat, for weeks on end.
I could come back but the requirements are steeper than ever. Rangers need:
- purpose in the GCW
- PvP functionality
- to be the best in the game at creature hunting, not just harvesting
- And most importantly to stop being looked at as an obstruction to the future of the game.
As it sits right now, all the Ranger skills could be consolidated into scout and the skill points would be about right for the effectiveness of the abilities. It's unfortunate, I love Ranger, I've gone back andmastered it 4 times, but as it stands, the return on investment isn't nearly worthwhile.

1. No
2. I've been interested in the game for a while, and after reading a bunch of reviews and a cheaper price, I finaly decided to get it, and I got it so that I could play Ranger. That's what sounds the most fun to me, I mostly want to explore, and Ranger is best suited to that. Also, player vs player (in an RPG anyway) isn't all that exciting to me (this may change after the CU) so ranger again fits with PvE play the way I like to do it.
3. I can't answer what will happen after the revamp. I'm new anyway, so I'd rather spend the time with my main character then fiddle in the test center. I'm paitent, I plan on waiting until I've played on the new system a while to see what happens. I won't give up Ranger, but I might make up my mind to not get involved in PvP at all.
(Upon first getting the game, my plan was to work my toon up to the point where a bunny rabbit couldn't beat him up anymore, then start PvPing... now, I'll have to see how the CU goes. I might end up as a hermit sitting out in the bushes making extensive use of cammo and burstrun. I want to be a ranger, but I have to combat to hunt, and I might not be able to combat as Ranger.... well, I'll see what happens. If the worst fears of the most paronid people on the forums comes to pass (
