Thread: Disbanding Camp Macro using /duel

The Devs wouldnt have made camps disband after combat was initiated if this was an "exploit."

Just to make this clear, the camp disbanding in combat was added to fix an exploit. At one time, camps used to repel creatures that were attacking. They also stayed up in combat. This let you fight out of a camp with no danger. To fix this, the Devs wielded their mighty Nerf Bat and removed both the ability to repel and the ability to stay up in combat (it used to be that the highest Ranger camp only disbanded if you told it to, you logged out, or you left the planet). Using the system in this way is technically an exploit (just look up the definition) but I don't think the Devs really care about it right now. If people still do it once the Jedi system is changed, the Devs might take a different view. But, honestly, why does it matter? Players grinding professions will do it whatever other people say. It doesn't really affect you (although it might annoy you to see people get through it so quickly). And we have so many other problems to worry about. If you hate this so much, make it part of an argument to get camps to not disband during combat. I'm sure most Rangers would be willing to include it as part of the reason for making that change (if only because it might mean the Devs do it). But this Hologrinder/Hypocrite argument is getting a bit old already. It is almost turning into a flame war and that is really not the way to handle things.

Choose one or the other, and try to tell me why if you think it is person B.
I'm not trying to flame, I want to know a simple answer to a simple question.. If you think that it's not cheating someone out of something they worked for you should be able to tell me why, although

No problem...they both should be able to, equally...why?
Because we all pay the same fee each month. You play the game how you like it, and I'll do the same, and we can all agree to disagree. Using what theh devs give us isn't breaking any rule. Sorry if someonoe got creative. It's easy for devs to add code to say "if in a camp, no one can take damage except from a creature", etc. However, they can't' fix some basic bugs in the game, much less fix real issues.
So, until then, **edit**. Oh, and while I'm typing this, I'm AFK grinding frontiering...I should be master ranger sometime tomorrow afternoon...need to get 65k more scouting xp and macro up the trap tree.
Well... that's assuming that you get, what is it, 35k of grinding bone (http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=bria_trade&message.id=110629#M110629) so you can crank out all those camps (lol). Here's an idea for you -- you could actually go hunting for your grinding bone and get your scouting xp at the same time. There's this option on the radial menu called 'harvest' and, guess what, you actually get scouting xp everytime you use it.
But seriously, this actually brings me back to the point I've been making over and over and over and over again -- all of this AFK grinding does hurt our profession because it produces two-day-wonder "master rangers," who don't understand how the profession works -- sure, they know how to drive around dathomir mask-scented, and they know how tocopy and modify someone else's'creative' macros, and they know what traps stack and what creatures you can hit with the most glow-wire traps per minute, but if they ever had to really use the profession, they would be completely and utterly lost. For holo-grinders, who really cares (insert generic statement about how holo-grinders have ruined this game), but when we are talking about people who really want to be rangers, it really doesn't help our cause to encourage people to avoid figuring out how to use our technologies to their best advantage.

I'm with Calc on this one. While I don't condone macroing through professions, I certainly am not going to condemn it, or consider myself better for having slogged & fought through what another person decides to sleep through. We are all on the same treadmill. Some folks like to run while others prefer to walk. To each his own.
In a way I find it amusing because I sincerely doubt anyone who macros through Ranger is going to keep it for very long. The mindset of macroing through a profession requires there to be some perceived reward at the end. What reward is there at Master Ranger? Other than a neat title - none. And look at the skill points spent getting there! Chances are most of the people who are going to do this are grinding through to a "better" reward - becoming Jedi. And to them, time saved is like money earned.

it's not an exploit. the camp auto-disbands when you enter combat. it's completely legitimate. if SOE didn't want people to macro their way through professions, they shouldn't haven't implemented such a system like this, which is very easy to take advantage of.
uh... yeah, its an exploit. There is no command for disbanding camps. Therefor, its easily deduced that camps were never meant to be disbanded via macro.
When i did BE there was no pre-set macro for sampling dna, so i had to create my own to do this. Under your requirements for an exploit, i was doing exactly that to get BE the only way possible.
