Thread: Ranger correspondent feedback
I am very happy for all rangers. This seems to be great news.

This is great news. Rangers will be worth something with the changes. ![]()
I don't see any unbalance with tracking. Sure, we could quickly find the rare mobs tokill for that rare loot in EQ(ex-EQ ranger here), but that doesn't apply to SWG.

is anyone else concerned about /scanarea and the potential for abuse?
giving someone the ability to track another player down just opens up new avenues for griefers. Even if they cant kill you directly they can follow you around, kill your mobs and your missions, etc. In short, it helps gives people who are a general nuisance a way of following their victim. This seems to open the door to many possible forms of abuse. I hope this is taken into consideration before the changes are made live.

In EQ, the rule is "whoever establishes aggro first, wins the MOB." So in many instances where a zone can support multiple groups but have to share the same pool of roaming MOBs, a Druid could out pull a group of 6.
On what planet? LOL! A full group can easily out pull any druid... a druid can only fight 4 mobs at a time and has to medidate after the quad. My brother was in POV soloing while I was in a group, in the same zone, and I made2 times as much XP as he did and killed probably 4 times as many mobs. Maybe a low level group competing with a high level druid has this problem but not an even level group. There is ton of downtime for a solo druid even with the highest level crack.
In any event, tracking has never been anything but a cool and useful skill/ability that has helped solo'ers, groups and whole guilds. It will be the same way in SWG.
tk2, i think of the the major problems with MMOs these days is that they worry too much about whats a potential grief and we end up with boring games.
I dont know if you've played UO or not, but that game had a tracking system like EQ's and so much more that could easily be considered "potential grief" and it eventually was, and then changed, and then the entire game turned into a huge carebear PvE game.
Its not like people killing your mobs is a rampant issue. And tracking in PvP for overts may or may not be found to be a bit overpowered. We have a radar anyway, so you cant hide from players.
I really think these are some positive changes. Gaining a lot, losing virtually nothing (not that there was much to lose). I will thoroughly enjoy continuing my pursuit of Master Ranger. It sounds as if Rangers will soon have a very important role in hunting groups. Excellent.
