I love being a ranger, though I can see where there is room for improvment. I don't know about you guys but I'm going to walk across all the planets till I've seen everything, and this is the best way to do it. (yes I realize there are speeders in the game, I have two)Anyway craziness aside, what bugs are you guys talking about? I haven't run across anything i'd call a bug. (aside from my pet getting merged with a tree, but that didn't have anything to do with being a ranger)

Wow i posted to soon Thanx serpahin for proving me wrong. IF you really are so sick of rangering then GIVE IT UP! thats right stop doing it. NObody is forcing you to play a ranger. I agree there are bugs.. even as a novice ranger i can see some of them, but if all you do is **edit** the devs will put you on a shelf until you learn how to ask nciely. ID jsut got osme of its wish list. and the first thing that happened was a surge of bitterness from combat professions deeming them unworthy of their fixes! WHat kind of self centered BS was that! Do you really want to look like the person who stuck around and whined about something till everybody ignored him or do you want to be one of the people who ACTUALLY tries to show new ideas and wait patiently! Ive been here five minutes and am already sick of your fatalistic attitude!

So in all honesty and with no malice, if you hate being a ranger because it doesn't work then just stop. Sell your ranger skills sell your scout skills and become something else so you can **edit** at them about how the profession sucks there!

At this point, I say let him post. If anything, it's good for a laugh or two.

The developers will put us on a shelf? Sorry, but we were moved from that spot some time ago. Currently we reside somewhere under a very large rug. Some folks see the broom coming to sweep us into the trash, others way "just wait a bit more, you'll see the light". I personally don't see anything coming our way this year, regardless of whether we rant, debate, ask nicely, etc. JTL (among other things) is too important for the marketing engine, they have to get that out the door to bump up the subscription numbers again. Ranger is not a big draw for SWG.

Also, there is a simple solution to your problem: Click on his name and select "Add this user to your ignore list." Presto! No more exposure to his fatalistic attitude.

Believe me he was ignored very fast. I was jsut annoyed cause ive been getting serious flak on the ID forums because we actually got some changes. To then run into it here was just annoying.

I think and have expressed some concerns of my own to the Devs...

I personally think that the elite combat professions should be balanced in that an unbuffed MasterPistoleer if he knows what he's doing can take on a Master TKM. Aside from that there should be the ability for multiple masters across unlike professions and receive extra Skill Points for it. I believe that a person who wants to be a Mater Rifleman / Pistoleer for example should be limited in what else they can do, but if someone wants to pick up non combat skills to flesh out a character I think the current system is entirely too unflexible.

Does the BH have the ability to track people? I often think about what kind of skill tree Boba Fett would have or Han Solo...

What if the entire system were redesigned in an effort to give our characters true uniqueness, for example we choose a profession or three, lol, and spend our skill points on SKILLS not levels...

Don't get me wrong I am truly addicted to the game, but there are some major issues of RPing that were missed...

Traps

  • Issue with using a trap and not receiving any feedback at all (neither success nor failure mesages)
  • Issue with the last trap in a stack tending to fail more often than the others.
  • Issue with traps not working in Caves.

    • If experience is the concern, then perhaps the answer would be to not provide any experience for traps thrown in caves

  • Certain traps can be used over and over again, on the same creature, without any delay, for continuous experience
  • Issue with image of the "Throw Trap" action remaining in the Combat Queue window, even after the trap has been thrown
  • Issue with /clearCombatQueue not removing unperformed "Throw Trap" actions from the queue
  • Issue with traps remaining in the game space after being thrown, and appearing as white dots on the Radar

Ok,

Issue with traps not working in Caves.

This has been addressed right?

New home of SWG Rangers!

"Ranger isnt a profession. Its a lifestyle for sure. But upon the desert plains of Tattooine that wandering hermit you see was once a proud Ranger. It may not be a profession anymore but the lifestyle can never be lost, changed or deleted. "

Ok, I've not posted to this message board ever, and very very rarely to any message boards on these forums, however having played a ranger on Valcyn since 3 months after this game went live I can't help but feel let down by this community. I use these message boards as reading material to learn what I need to do, or what is coming along down the "pipeline" to us, yet I see no hope for this profession. The fact that everyone here has shrugged off the problems is astounding to me. The state of the ranger profession can be summed up as such ...

1) Camps = Pointless waste of resources better spent

2) Traps = See 1

3) Creature Harvesting = Get yourself a droid and drop all the way to novice scout, dont waste your skill points on ranger

4) Terrain negotiation = Well, all you need of this is from Master Scout.

I was there when camps were needed outside of a city to call your droids or your pets, or even your vehicles, I saw the new droid come out to harvest for us, and when buitl right can harvest as good as my master ranger or better! The devs have consistantly taken everything that is a ranger and given it to EVERYONE. There is ZERO realistic reasons for anyone to remain a ranger. The ranger class has been useless since long before smugglers had problems yet there are at least rumors of a smuggler revamp coming along, and I am sure when they get their smuggling missions they will be greatful to the devs for letting them pull their vehicles out wherever they may be without any wait time. The ranger class has had far more problems then BH yet the BH just got a nice drop in their requirements just the other day. Why can't the devs throw a little of that small love our way? Even image designers have a reason for being a class in this game (though barely).

Don't take my complaints the wrong way, I don't intend on evergiving up the ranger class, I like the idea of what it is SUPPOSED to be. What I would like now is to actually see something done about its complete and utter uselessness. I would like to see the skill points I have dedicated for the last 9 months be worth something other then a title. Even a general plan of attack would be better then sitting here and coming to this thread hoping to find some sign of change in the rangers future and instead finding a complete nonchalant (sp) attitude about it.

The majority of the posts on this board discuss potential ways of making us better. We haven't made a new State of the Profession in a while because it takes quite a bit of work to put it together and it wouldn't be that much different than what it is now. We don't sit around doing nothing. We just don't go around complaining about things we can't change. The Devs will get to us eventually. I would rather they took their time and did a good job instead of throwing a quick fix that we don't really want. Unlike BHs, we actually don't want a skill point reduction. Some Rangers even want a skill point cost increase (although this is heavily debated--I personally don't want to see a higher skill point cost as it is likely to force diversity out of our profession). Just because we don't whine and complain that the Devs are doing nothing doesn't mean we sit around doing nothing. Have a look in some of the other posts sitting around in our forum and post your opinion. The more people we have working on the stuff, the better ideas we will put together.
