If you think about it Ranger is a Range profession... Hint name RANGER not Melee'er

The 'range' part in 'ranger' has nothing to do with ranged weapons. Sorry.
From the 14th century on it's recorded as meaning a person responsible for enforcing authority in a given area, such as a royal park. And before anyone leaps on the 'ah hah, creature centric, save my picnic baskets...' these are less Yogi's nemesis and more the sort of people who'd give Robin Hood types a good kicking. Or certainly a good run for his money with fists, daggers, swords and firearms.

Currently, there are no profs with the same two lines as the pre req, which is why they wont (shouldnt) do ranged support/exploration. I'd push for 2 lines of scout.
In CU beta, Combat Medic was slated for 1 line of medic and pistols IV as the pre-reqs. The justification was that CMs were getting a pistol at master (still do) and that the pistol had UBER DPS!!!! (it doesnt)
Luckily, the devs saw the error of this and changed it to ranged support, making it easier to dabble in CM, but not making it cost 0 additional pre reqs with any other one profession. So keep fighting it!
I feel that smugglers as well should have the pre-req moved to ranged support, and given all general mods like BH instead of forcing them to be pistol users. As to the commando/smuggler unarmed issue, thats tricky.. it doesnt make a lot of sense, but theres not a great place to move it either.

I am currently Master Ranger/Master Riflemen and I like it that way. I haven't spent quite a few Millions of credits on a weapon that only a Master Riflemen can use and now I'll have to get rid of it. I agree with who ever said on the first page about the only requirements being Scout 4400. We are Rangers, we don't NEED to kill if we don't want to but I guess the DEVs are kinda forcing us to be that way.

Yup I too have spent millions on my rifle and millions more getting +25 rifle speed from SEA's.
If they give us the option to respec then I might go Master Ranger, Master Carbines, CM 4/0/0/0.
If they don't, then I will stay as Master Ranger, Master Rifleman.

Two suggestions:
With Novice Marksman:
Make it so that we can choose our path to novice Ranger, by choosing one of the three weapon lines. In terms of special skills learnt, the three lines (rifle, carb and pistol) are all the same. This way, we're still based in two novice professions (as the devs seem to want us), but we still have the freedom to choose the weapon type we want.
(it should be noted that if they're slanting us as spy-types then pistols would make more sense than carbines, not that I want pistols)
Without Novice Marksman:
This way, we stay elite (based in scout only), but place generic ranged and melee combat mods in the corresponding scout lines. This would allow even more flexibility, and jusitfy the CL you'd have by the time you reach novice ranger.
(Bit of fun next
The Anti-Jedi way:
Give us same pre-req's as BH's and let the Jebays burn ! Muhahahahaa

After reading the cesspool called the Jedi forums, this sounds like the best idea yet

If you want a Marksman pre-req the only option will be Ranged Support.. You cant link Ranger to a specific weapon type!
