Thread: CU: Unconstructive rants and bitter tirades here, please

Con level scales only with Comabt Level. Scout has jack to do with your CL. So having some amount of Scout or not has nothing to do with Scout XP.
Scout XP being based on harvest amount as it is in live, has its problems. The group bonus being the one I see now. I've helped a few people plow through Scout a bit faster than they should just by grouping with them as a Master Ranger. Then again what they learned from me in that time was huge compared to what they would have learned solo. /shrug
If Scout XP was a matter of only of CL I wouldn't be mad. I.E a Cl 12 creature giving the same xp all the time.Message Edited by agent156 on 04-12-2005 08:17 PM
As 156 succinctly puts it, your scout XP is now tied solely to the con difference between you and the prey.
So, getting some veghash, teaming up with a good killer and really hauling ass to harvest some big fat critters is only going to help you get a bunch of hide or meat. Not harvest XP. What in frell this does to the harvest bonus I have no idea, other than the bonus will let you get a bit more organics.
Now, who does this help and who does this hinder?
Well, if you're trying to get scout XP to master Scout to go Ranger, or are grinding your way up Ranger, the ability to play smart and get the right sort of harvests just left on the last bus.
If, otoh, you're a double elite combat mastery with a bucket load of killing ability and a smidgeon of scout harvesting, you'r elaighing all the way to the bank, or maybe the Village.
I'm sorry that I'm ranting, and I'm probably missing the point completley and tomorrow somebody will point out where I'm wring and I'll be like "uhm, okay... yah, idiot... I'll go stand in the corner and count my fingers.." but this is just ANOTHER instance of what looks like the "well scouts and rangers aren't affected by the CU as they are 'outside the scope', so nothing's happening to them, what are they complaining about" approach that's got us scout rangers stood at the kerbside splattered with mud as the CU busses go splahing
by in the rain.

You're reading it exactly the same way I am.
There's a major disconnect here based on how XP is being assigned. I had a theory about Combat XP and the dev's were nice enough to confirm it.
When grouped you get a combat level of the highest person in the group. As a result, when you attack that creature the main bonus you get is a scaled amount of defense. Namely ... the creature hits you for less than when you're ungrouped.
Once the creature is dead though you get XP based on YOUR PERSONAL COMBAT LEVEL. If I am lvl 1 and group with a Lvl 50 player, the group level is 50. When I kill the creature and harvest it though all xp that I recieve is based on CL1 while all the XP the Lvl 50 player gets is based on CL 50.
As I've already confirmed, a CL 1 scout will harvest and get 68xp.
That means if grouped with a Lvl 50 player, killing a CL 50 creature, that CL 1 scout will get just over 68xp (the extra bit being the group xp bonus.) That CL 50 player harvesting that same creature will get over 500xp!!!!
Armour... For a Rifleman/Ranger.
Rifleman = Recon armour.. which has a lower base move penalty than Battle armour, but MAKES YOU LESS ACCURATE AND SLOWER TO ATTACK.
Ranger = Battle Armour..which slows you down more than Recon and we are a class which relies on mobility? But your MORE accurate with rifles?
Now it might just be me, but I'd think that Heavier armour = Larger penalties all round, Move, Accuracy & Attack speed.
So it looks like Im going to be wearing battle armour because I'll suffer less accuracy penalty with my rifle.. hmm.. good job I only crawl round in the grass.

Yeah but I see that as an attempt to prevent the old MUD trick of grouping with the level 100 guy; go to hell; he kills satan; you get instal lvl 50.
Originally it was my concern that a CL 50 player could conceivably level scout at an extremely accelerated rate while the the CL1 scout was crawling through the profession despite having more harvesting skills.
Regulating Scout XP by CL, without granting Scout any CL within the skillset, would have led to a player of CL 50 getting through the Scout XP portion of the trees 5x faster than a CL1.
Now, of course, its a moot point because Scout is granted some CL bonuses. Hopefullyit will start to balanceout.
