Funny you mention that--one of my friends managed to give Darth Vader a mind disease as he was visiting Theed. That was fun.
now that you just said it out loud.....how does one get mind disease from something thrown at em?!
i dare say there needs to be a hat to protect against this!

I like Almagil's Aussie hat with the corks.. well that or a 20Gallon hat!
Planet specific would makesense though, so as we dont mess up our camouflage. Nothin' breaks scent more than a EndorianLifetree leaf wrapped around the dome, whilst crawling through the dunes of Tattoine.

Sorry, Owen, but the truth about the Ranger hat needed to be told.
I don't care how many Bothans died to bring us this information, either.
Is the amount of dead Bothans directly proportional to the accuracy/urgency of the information?

How about several different types of hat that you can wear with differing skill levels...?
eg
Novice Ranger: Knotted handkerchief
Frontiering 1: Straw boater
Frontiering 2: Beret
Frontiering 3: Deer stalker
Frontiering 4: Bearskin Hat
Master Ranger: Aussie Hat with corks thingy
ummm... does me typing this push it back to the top of the list....?

Hmm, it did.
But it gives me a chance to quickly add that whatever form the Ranger Hat takes (I'm curiously drawn to the idea of a knotted kerchief for some reason) there really needs to be a version for those species with weird heads that hats won't fit on at present.
Now, those different hats at different levels...
what about different hats at lvl IV in each tree?
Trapping: tartan 'trapper' hat with floppy ear flaps.
Camping: knotted kerchief, only to be worn IN camp, in your underwear and sandals.
Tracking: deer stalker
Killin'n'skinnin'n'stuff: Nice no nonsense beret,
Master ranger, the full on Croc Dundee with beer bottle lids and corks.
Right, 4am. I've got to be somewhere in... 4 hours?? Oh boy.
