Thread: Kash. Camo Kits on TC now
JBMat wrote:Ok, this is total crap. Once again the devs have dumped on us and we can't do a thing about it.
Ok, Joe Artisan can now "buy" camo kits and use them without us being around. Granted, the bio-eng clothing won't help, as he has no innate abilities to camo. Fact is, I don't see how it would work period, as the usefullness of the kits is related to the Rangers (appliers) camo abilities. Bet we don't get XP for kits we make and sell either.
Seems the devs are now pandering to the Artisans in an attempt to win them back. Yeah, a lot of them are mad they get killed every time they go to check harvestors. Solution = bodyguards or put the freaking harvestors in a safe place, not on Dath you morons.
Oh well, guess plan B is now in effect. I will pile up mass amounts of FS, drop Ranger once Luck is done, stack in Carbineer, make more FS and go Jedi.
That or go to WOW.
JB
I went there JB... and it was so mind numbingly dull and repetitive that I came BACK to SWG. Even with our very own WoW (World o' Wookiee) the fact that you can do stuff in SWG in a non-linear do x, y, then z way beats the hump off them orcs and elves anyday.
OTOH, at least there, if an ability isn't within the scope of your profession you can either like it or lump it. What? You picked mage and can't wear armour? Well, taht was your choice bud and hey, it's called a consequence. Now shut up, group up and go look for some ingredients to bring back to the mission giver so you can magically become a turnip at will...
uhm...
ok, I made part of that up. BUT YA KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!
Maybe I'll go sit in Coronet right now with my Master Ranger tag on and spam that I need 3specific resources from all the planets. It'll go something like this:
"Paying 10 CPU for:
Talusian Avian meat, Talusian Leathery hide, Talusian Avian bones, Corellian Insect meat, Corellian Bristley hide, Corellian Animal bones, Nabooian Herbivore meat, Nabooian Scaley hide, Nabooian Avian bones, Tatooinian Reptillian meat, Tatooinian Wooly hide, Tatooinian Animal bones, Dathomirian Carnivore meat, Dathomirian Leathery hide, Dathomirian Animal bones, Lokian Carnivore meat, Lokian Leathery hide, Lokian Animal bones, Endorian Inesect meat, Endorian Leathery hide, Endorian Avian bones, Yavinian Carnivore meat, Yavinian Scaley hide, Yavinian Animal bones, Dantooinian Herbivore meat, Dantooinian Scaley hide, Rorian Carnivore meat, Rorian Leathery hide, Rorian Animal bones, And stuff from Kashyyyk, but I don't know what."
Think that might be too long a paragraph to spam? I mean it's only going to end up being 32 different resources for11 different camo kits. I think I can handle carrying that around with me all the time.

Sooon as I can get the patch downloaded I'm there.
BTW< how big IS the pub 17 patch?

Sorry I won't be for a while.
I'm currently so mad you don't want to know.

Yep.. shouldn't be a big DL for me, as I was patched up a couple of days ago. Already respeced swords to rifles, so I'm good to go.
Had to respec some ranger boxes to pick up freebie rifles boxes, but will eventually remaster ranger again. Shouldn't be too hard, but until then I can at least test out effectiveness with no camo skill, and I'm only a small amount of XP away from that box, as well.
WildBil2Me wrote:The sad thing, really, is that we can no longer expect camo to grant any kind of radar or HUD invisibility. With the decision to open these kits up to all players it would just be too powerful.
You hit the nail on the head..
Like SeanBlader said, I wanted to quote a few lines but it was hard to select the best points.
This is the main thing that concerns me though. /conceal is no longer an ability, but an object available to everyone (even if less effective for non rangers).
This puts us in danger (although maybe not entirely) of losing one of the major improved abilities of any revamp we may have. I'd say it was the number one topic of discussion for the past two years... "how to improve camo".
Publish 17 completely throws a wrench into the works, so to speak..
Instead of improving our /conceal and camo ability, we now need to ask ourselves some questions..
- Improve camo/stealth/invisibility for all?
- Crafters were in desperate need of protection. But I don't feel that this was the right answer.
The problem is that it's not limited to crafters. All combatants can now move more stealthily in the wilderness, and improve their ability further with camo modded BE clothing. - Rangers have lost uniqueness in that respect
- Crafters were in desperate need of protection. But I don't feel that this was the right answer.
- Relegate Camo kits as a craftable novelty. Refocus our efforts on a new/separate skill: "/stealth"
- This means that our past two years of discussion and brainstorming on how rangers can be more stealthy in the wilderness with camo, will now have to be completely refocused.
- Would a new skill take it's place? What's our argument for getting a better, but similar skill to camo kits?
Devil's advocate would say: "Why not add improvements to camo kits?"
Personally... I hate losing a unique ability and think this is unfortunate.
Having master AS/Tailor merchant, I definitely feel for crafters. I've been killed 4 times this week in front of my house when stepping out the door to check my factory, only 20m away!! Finding a bodyguard was not an option when I get incapped in two hits, and can't make it to the city to hire player protection. At noon on a weekday, my guildmates and friends weren't online to help.
(incidentally, I spammed in theed for a bodyguard after cloning... first for 10k, then 20k, then 50k!! No one wanted to help, and I wasted 15 minutes of game time, but I digress...)
Unfortunately, for rangers and crafters, this isn't the answer.. This is an easy answer for crafters problems that doesn't fully address it, nor provide any adequate protection.
Worse, it gives out a unique ability to all combatants who really are the winners in this situation. Camo may not be as effective for them as rangers, but at CL 80, they don't need to worry about incaps in two hits. BE clothing and camo gives them a slight edge as a hunter, but doesn't do a great deal for crafters -- the reason for this change, in the first place.
