Yes they do acknowledge that ranger needs a full revamp and is in a sorry state of affairs. This is one of the only possitive things (in terms of ranger love) we can take away from the combat upgrade alpha so far. Talking to devs we have managed to get responses in regards to a ranger revamp, that is is planned and will happen (like calc said from the looks of things after squad leaders and smugglers) and that the problems with ranger cannot simply be fixed in the combat upgrade, we need a revamp of our own with lots of special time spent on us to revamp us.

This has been made clear a few times that we NEED a revamp and simply adding things here and there isnt what the devs have planned as it cannot be done by tweaks and number changes.

Great to hear. I totally agree and posted all pissed off that long long long ago all we had in waiting after SL was "Corr Issues". I argued up and down (using TN) that we need a full revamp, especially after the combat balance. (what it was called back then)

So good. Now I hope they actually do it.

All things considered, I'm way past blowing my initial gasket that we're not included in the combat upgrade. Stepping back and looking at all the information at hand regarding the ranger profession since launch, I believe we were initially intended to be a profession that encompasses both combat and hunting. The initial descriptions of the profession point to this, especially for the different traps. The problem is that we were thrown in at the last minute as a concept without any follow-through on implementation. The comparison of rangers withthe likes of commandos and bounty hunters in the SW universe are easily made, but all of these professions initially fell short and I believe all will be reconciled with (a little more) time. I take note of little things that indicate the dev's intent regarding rangers, such as the fact that we're one of the few professions that can wear Mandalorian armor. While it may seem trivial and viewed as a bone thrown our way to keep us at bay, it can also be seen as an indication of how we will ultimately develop as a profession.

That said, I've a feeling that it's better that we don't get lumped into the combat upgrade. It's much more beneficial for there to be a concrete combat system in placeby which to define our role, rather than to simply create additional skills with little forethought simply so we can have a part in the upgrade.

Reading between the lines in the notes for the new loot system, we're not going to be getting much more in terms of harvesting skills. While that's disappointing from one persepective, it's also encouraging in that I feel we'll be getting skills far more valuable than the ability to extract more resources.

If I seem naive and overly-optimistic, my attitude stems from a long string of updates and patches, not to mention the Jedi Revamp and JTL, that consistently elicit at least a mental note of "how about that @*&^, they actually did it!" No matter how you look at it, the devs have slowly but surely beenhammering the game into the experience we all envisioned when it was initially announced. I imagine it's a painstaking process and nothing that could have been done by any amount of extended beta at the outset. Our time will come and I have a feeling that we'll all be more than a little excited by the results.
