She saved me from myself. My next response was going to be:

The next person that says if we want to be creature centric, (leave the Ranger prof/go play WoW) is going to get a Size 14 Leezard foot up their bum (mmm....spikey).

Frankly, it's those people who need to get their heads on straight. You need to realize that we went from a potentially unique, creature hunter to a run off the mill mishmash of Jedi/Rifleman, Commando, WS, and Smuggler skills. It's not like we have no basis for being upset that our role is 100% the opposite of what it, well, currently is. What I don't get is why, if you hated to be creature hunters so much, you were Rangers...

No one said those of that were asking for a more para-military role for Ranger didn't currently enjoy the style of Ranger as it is now. What most of us were saying was that we would MORE enjoy the para military aspect of it. Please don't stereotype us because we are happy with the new aspect being rolled.

I am not stereotyping anyone. I am addressing the group of people that are saying that Ranger as it was has no place in SWG. I am happy for the people who are happy, but pissing on the people who express their unhappiness is wrong.

Frankly with the Scout and Ranger correspondents both feeling like these new enhancements are a huge negative for the profession I can't help but believe the Ranger community will become increasingly more divided and antagonistic. Very unfortunate indeed.

I never said they were a negative (nor do I believe Paks did). If I have said that these changes were a negative, please post a link for me, so I can address my comments.I think the new profession is great (it's not Ranger, but it is still great). I fully intend on keeping some or all of the Ranger skills I have now.

Don't you think a lot of the antagonism comes from people telling others to leave the prof/game?

That sounds pretty negative to me. You could have said now you have NEW traps and skills to bring to a hunt and new abilities which will let you partake in ALL other areas of the game. You can be a better Hunter or an Antarian style ranger from the looks of things, lets be positive and see whether it is good as it looks.

Paks, while I agree with the jist of your post, which preaches a bit of understanding between the two sides, I was taken aback to hear you say this. The fact is that none of have play-tested this. If I, with my Master Ranger/Master Scout/Master BH template, can do everything I do, plus also place ground traps, plus also participate in the GCW, then we'll be very good. Until we tested, it's all assumption how "good" we'll be, and stating your opinion as an out and out fact like this is slightly irresponsible.

We'll see how we turn out, but until then, all we have are opinions about how good we'll be.

far be it from me to guess Paks' intent, but i think she meant (as far as what i am taking it to say) is that we will never be as good as a profession than the expectations we have and the mythology that surrounds the ranger.

Tome the snare makes PERFECT sense... how can you expect to be camo'ed and move normally? Do any of you guys hunt in real life at all? Yea i'm a master ranger and my jedi is master powers...both will have stealth abilities so it impacts me as much or more than anyone complaining about the change...

To me it makes perfect sense.

my point still stands. how do any of us know how things will pan out? We could turn out better than our expectations, we could turn out worse. i see a lot of people jumping ship already, and I think in all fairness, you might want to wait to see if the profession is fun to play before you make decisions. I HATED the concept of a lot of the CU stuff on paper, but some of it turned out nicely. Other stuff that sounded great on paper turned out to be the things I like the least.

I respect the players who want to be creature hunters. I disagree, but I still respect (and wuv) you guys. We gotta stand as a community, agree or disagree with the changes. But let's all agree not to be hasty and curt with each other. Let's not rush to judgement one way or another. Yes, most of the skills will be in scout, but that doesn't guarantee itl'll all work, so we can't tell people "just be scout". We also don't know how the skills will play out in Ranger, so let's not say "they'll be useless in PvCreature, so we're now humanoid-centric." Let's see how it is, see if it's fun, and make our judgements then.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

*edited to fix some typos and rearrange sentences*

Time for me to respond, after a lot of reading...

Currently, MRanger/MCH/bit of marskman/nov BH

When the new changes come to live, I'm not sure I will stay MRanger (thank god I still have my final respec).

I had Ranger mostly for tracking, because it helps my CH profession a lot, being able to track new baby pets. Tracking is out of the window (so it seems).

What else? Camps are either being removed or put to scout. Well, with MScout, nothing changes. Same with Traps and Creature Harvesting.

Ranger TN also usefull (when escaping aggro creatures, tames gone bad, outrunning npcs) but where will they be now? Revamp Doc says they are redistributed along the Ranger trees (!) in the changes of scout profession section. This one is still unclear to me, and is the only one I might still be interested in.

Overall the new changes won't help me fighting off npc's better/worse then before. Neither against creatures. With CU changes to con and aggro, most of the time I don't need to use camo/maskscent, cause nothing is happening anymore (anyone remember those beautifull aggressive kreetles on tatooine, allways breaking maskscent/camo?).Being aCL80I can handle most of it. When my droid and pets are grouped with me (o joy for the great CH revamp, which is another not so happy story),I form a 1 woman army, able to take out a lot, except a Krayt or higher (because of my pets dying to fast and me having no other combat skills then marksman). The new Ranger will not bring any differences in that, but the fact that I might need Carbine instead of Rifle...

And as main issue, I'm proud to be a NEUTRAL Ranger. Not Rebel, Not Imp (did Imp TP, going to do Reb TP), I don't feel GCW is my style of play. These new Ranger improvements are gearing towards PvP/GCW, which I won't choose.

So I might respec to MScout/MRifleman/MCH and see what points I've got left (maybe take some Novice Medic), which might bring me closer to Pre-CU Ranger (and game play) then after this revamp.

Or, because of the CH problems I'm facing, I might respec to MScout/MRifleman/MCM (if possible with the skillpoints) or just let my toon die. *shrug*

It all depends on what might be changed / altered in the time to come.

In the end I can understand JBMats feeling. Sorry to see you go JBMat, I hope that swinging the glowstick will make you happier.
