Man, I never get to whine.

You're right, and it's still going to be a lot of fun ... even if I do have to find someone to mine me some wheat to stick in my hat so I can sneak up on a giant turtle and shoot him with my ray gun.

Agreed that rangersMUSTbe able to be completely self-sufficient in this game 100% - not even having to go to town to heal battle fatigue unlesswe want to. Any arguement that we're asking to be super-uber because of this request because no-one else can must be thinking we're asking for "/revive self" or something, since there are many other things other classes can do that we can't like build large houses, or revive, or use a seeker droid, orBEa kahmerra, or...

It looks like to do this currenty, we have to: Build a house out in the middle of nowhere on a buildable planet (so Lok, Dantooine, Dathomir are out) and take up novice entertainer (so we can heal BF in our house, since we can't do it in our camps) or take-up CH andget pets that cando all the damage so we don't get BF in the first place, take up novice artisan so we can survey and samplefor the inorganics we need for high-end camps, traps, and camouflage, forgoing other combat skills that would make us even more self-sufficient. Oh, and the only way we're going to make any money is if someone comes out to our house in the middle of nowhere to buy some of our organics or sends a scout as delivery-boy. Maybe this is part ofa retirement plan, but doesn't sound very fun to me right now.

My current plan is to find a surveyor to help find the best location for the resources on my favoriteplanets or just scout around with my novice artisan skills while hunting (which I've been trading back and forth between novice artisan and novice medic several times per week while I still have 15 skillpoints left) and setup a collection facility and milk it dry, then bring the resource back to the ranger guild hall oncethat's built and share it with my comrades, hoping that someone else did the same thing on another planet. This could be one of the few tangible benefits of membership in the guild.

Oh, and I guess the guild could setup one or two factories to make crates of the camo kits, traps, and campsthat the rest of us could use that the organiser would sell (at a super discount) to us to pay for the high maintenance of the guild hall and factories and let us carry around crates of these things. I would love to have a crate of high-tech field bases instead of 10 individual ones plus the resources needed to build more cluttering up my backpack, samegoes foradhesive mesh traps (2 per... sheesh). I'd rather see a single stack of 40 adhesive meshes that I can hotkey rather than a 20unit crate of 2-packs though, maybe this is a new type of factory - "camp, trap, and camo factory" but then medics and chefs might get mad also... you'd think that if they are made in a factory, a 20x20 crate of stimB's should be able to work the same as a single 400-chargestimB pack (or can it?)

I have several concerns about the camo kits.

First, while I have problem with needing a planet specific flora, it needs to require a very low quantity. If I'm taking 10-20 people on a hunting trip, I don't need to be spending an hour trying to survey and sample for the flora. I'm thinking 3-5 per usage. If conceal kits are going to require 35 or so, I better be getting 10 uses. These are only going to last roughly 20 minutes and aren't foolproof. They shouldn't require a large undertaking.

Second, any resources such as bone/hide should not be planet specific. Animal bones are animal bones. If you aren't going to differentiate by animal (as in torton/squall/gualama all show as "animal bone"), you certainly can't make a kit specific to the planet where the bone originated. That's just silly. A Rancor isn't going tobe able to tell if a bone isfrom Dathomir or Rori. Go ask one.Bone is bone, hide is hide. Flora, yes. If I'm Endor, I certainly dont' expect to fool anyone while dressed in pretty little Naboo flowers. To further this point, it would seem hard to rationalize the situation, "Okay, we're here and we can make hide ourselves with these camo kits to get by the big nasties...we just have to kill the big nasties first to do so".

Third, well I forgot my next point.

To summarize:

Flora: planet specfic (low quantities per usage)

Bone: non-planet specific

Hide: non specific (perhaps a certain type per planet. i.e. Leathery on Rori, Scaley on Naboo, etc.)

Other resources: non-planet specific

I don't know about whining, im not trying to make a mathematical equation, or philosophize on all this. Simply put...I wan't to be self-sufficient in my own class. As a Ranger and able to just up and go out when I want. If I suddenly feel the urge to go embark on some quest on Endor, I'd like to be able to just use the environment around me to supply my own skills. I.E. making camps and camo kits. If we have to suffer having less features in camps to do so, so be it.

No one tells a Army Sniper to go seek an Artisan or something when hes out in the field and needs to make a ghillie suit. Frankly thats really what camo kits are, and theres no reason for us to extend our reaches anywhere beyond the surrounding environment for such things. The High Tech Field Base is another story, while I'd rather be able to use the environment for all its components that base is more of a luxury than a necessity so I understand that.

The only thing about this that sticks in my craw is the fact that very few artisans do anything on Endor, Dathomir or Lok. This could make it tough to get the resources without setting out your own harvesters. Also I read on a patch update that no one's supposed to have houses and harvesters on some planets. Not sure if this is true but if it happens it could be nigh-impossible to get the proper resources.

Wow, I don't mean to be disparaging but some of us need to grow a pair. We've been complaining that we don't have enough abilities for six weeks. Now they give you the power to make other players invisible to NPCs and we're complaining about the details?

The rugged individualism inherent in the profession means dealing with adversity as need be. You're a ranger. You'll figure it out, even if it means -- gasp -- talking to another player or wandering into a city once a week.

You think rangers craft all their clothes and build their own weapons? You're a ranger, not a cave-man.

I really don't have a problem with this, becauseI can see where the devs are taking this. They are trying to make everyone dependant on everyone else...why not us? The only real problem I can see in the near future is rangers going broke. Scouts are everywhere, they always will be. I'm not dogging on scouts, but the creature harvesting they do is for xp, and the harvesting we do is for $$$. If you were a doctor, a chef, an armorsmith, or a tailor, would you pay top dollar to a ranger who needs the cash or take freebees from a novice scout looking for xp?

Chunk,

It's all about volume, my friend. Scouts can't haul in the hide like we can. Rangers will always be able to haul in more hide faster than any Scout. Added to the fact that we'll be able to get around to the spots that our younger brethren can't go near (like Yavin 4 and Dath), and you won't need to worry about this too much.

Well my only qualm about the other guys post about everyone being dependent on everyone else is that the Rangers whole purpose as a class is to be independent. Independent in the wilderness, in the city, no. In the wilderness, yes, that is really the whole point of the profession. Why are you making camps, concealing yourself, learning to trek through adverse terrain? Survival in the wilderness. If for some reason you are out alone in the outskirts of Dathomir with no resources to make a camo kit because you can't get flora using your own skills how will you return back to the outpost? Suicide? Yeah thats a good answer. No, not suicide. You're screwed unless you do get yourself killed. That is simply what im arguing. I'm not asking for us to be able to build houses and all sorts of nonsense and just pull it out of a hat but our core skills, our Ranger skills should be sulf-sufficient. The balance here is that the Scout on the other hand is not fully capable yet in the wild. The Ranger is the elite version of the scout, he should have that kind of capability. He's achieved a true level of ability to survive in the wild. If you can't see what I'm saying by now, odds are you won't ever. But those are my 2 cents ...

I've been thinking a lot on this.

Once we know what the required components will be, I will certainly be posting a list on my server's forums. When the word gets out, I fully expect some enterprising individuals to start finding the ingredients and marketing them.

A hunting party is forming? If they want camo, perhaps each member will be responsible for bringing their share of the resources.

I would expect some individuals to list the ingredients for the more popular "hunting party" areas (Endor, for example) on the bazaar terminals.

And so forth...

Is it a bit inconvient? Well.. sure. The more I mull it over, though, the more business opportunites I start to see. In fact, the sheer volume of ideas being generated here and elsewhere leads me to believe this is exactly what the devs intended.

Besides.. I just love my new definition of Ranger Ranger? Don't hunt without one!

Just make a crate of 25 and tote it around. I travel pretty light, no bots. I carry 2 guns (one's a spare), roughly around 16 assorted medpacks, 2 chem kits, 1 weapon kit, stims, traps (1 case of each - phen dart, adhesive mesh, and glow wire), plus my resources I need (polymer, metal, water, and about 3k of hides and bones). Right now, I make a camp as soon as I set one up, but after the patch I'll start crating those up too. Meds are usually bought, but I can make my own if I need to. This leaves a lot of room to spare. If you need more resources on you for meds or whatever, try to narrow it down to 1 all-round material...carry 20k of it if you have to. Buy an extractor and pay off an artisan for the location. You only need to hastle with them for a week or so and you're set for a long time. As far as the factory, buddy up with someone who owns one,or "rent" it for a day.

I'm extremely self-sufficient this way, with the exception of running missions to keep up the cash when I have the extractors out. No mooching resources, just asking for waypoints.

Do the same for the flora. Get a flora farm and just run it for a week on each planet. Back to self sufficiency and the envy of all
