Thread: Materials for The New Camo Kits
Floral resources are Planet Specific.
I realy dont see a problem with the fact that you will need Surveyor to help you gather materials. It is no worse then Doctors needing Avaian meat and Lokian Wild Wheat for some of their items.
It just requires planing.
Besides you don't need a camo kit to hunt, we do without them now.

That last line of yours was my point exactly.
However the bit about doctors needing meat...well they're DOCTORS not survialists, rangers, frontiersmen..you get the idea. I think the ranger class is supposed to be less dependant upon other classes. Random though, permanent camps in lieu of houses. I have a great spot for a little shack I can call home (when I'm on that planet). ![]()
I agree, Muhalo. I think everyone is blowing this out of proportion. We don't have camoflage now, and we do just fine. This is not some god-given essential here, this is a bonus. Let's be happy we're getting something like this, really! The materials might be a little rough to collect at first, as we, and the market, adjust to it. Give it some time, and see how it works out.
My only concern at the moment is sheer inventory space.I usually have a few big stacks of hide, a few of bone, and one of some various meat as it is now. If you truly want to be stocked up, and prepared, as many of us do, you'll now need to dedicate what, 36 inventory spots to holding on to materials from all planets? That might get a little rough, personally. ![]()

I can agre with this, is how i think of camo as well, BUT cant recall a movie where the great wilderness commando ranger guy went to BOB'S SURPLUS FLOWERS ADN THINGS store to buy the weeds he stuck in his hair. Needs to be obtainable by the ranger in sufficient quantity, not the ONE fruit per medical forage attempt for example now. Needs to be ranger skill driven so based on forage.
Gigga,
It's not in game yet. It's currently in testing.
It will allow non-Rangers to use the /conceal skill to keep them safe in the wilds of the wilderness.

I like the idea that you need planet-specific flora/meat etc. But i think that they should give a broader selection of resources we can use, not one particular flower, or wood. Someone said that in the movies they pick plants around them to camp themselves. But have you ever once seen one walking around going.
"No, we cant use THAT type of wood you n00b, it has to be a specific sunflower that grows on the east side of moss covered oak trees with a red tint, and 3, NOT 2, bird nests on its western branches, exactly 25 feet from the ground, no more no less. Anything differentand they will know that we are not a pretty arrangement of sunflowers so get to searching!"
Would just make more sense (to me at least) if the flora was broader. Like make it simply "talusian wood" or "lokian wheat" or something like that. And what if there is a resource shift and that particular wood is no longer available on that planet? then what? will we have to wait a week for the off chance that the particular type of wood will shift back in order to use /conceal on that planet?

Delta, I hate to join in any whinefest, much less one discussing a skill I haven't yet experienced. But if the original account is accurate, I have to disagree with you.
I understand and embrace the concept of sensible class interdependency and the notion that even within your own skill set, if you want one thing, you need to give up something else.
As much as I hate to lose any self-sufficiency, it makes perfect sense for a backcountry expert to depend on miners for metals and polymers. But forcing a ranger to be a junior industrialist or depend on one for twigs and leaves ... twigs and leaves, for crying out loud ... makes no sense at all, particularly when it comes at the expense of advancing a critical allied skill, such as marksmanship.
I'm a ranger, dang it, and I should be able to pick up my own foliage. Make it forageable or just certify novice rangers to use the flora survey tool.
Sneaky,
I agree with you - but lets wait til we get more information before continuing the "whinefest". ![]()

Don't get me wrong, the idea of planet specific materials makes sense. It's the non-harvestable materials that bothers me, a blind for the wild should be able to be taken from the wild, and the components listed are not. They look like it but the way the game machanics work out they are mined in the same identical way Ore is mined, and that makes it the oddball.
- I have issue with the Forage command already. We should have better choices to target a resource.
- When we get 1., the list needs to include what we need for blinds.
This is akin to adding to the innate camo ability where we are pulling plants and branches from the surrounding area to hide in the foliage.
