I shudder to think what 'the other' way of getting the job done is. It involves monkeys, doens't it?

Great thread -Xell-, especially like the idea of enhancing exisiting scout/ranger type foods as I think that sort of get sround the toe stepping issue, though it does leave you in a position of being chef dependant if you want to use your foraged foods at all. Not sure what way to go with that.

Foraged items as PuPs for traps. Now that IS a nice bit of blue sky thinking. If it was a few items added to the forage loot table rather than becoming 'the only' items in the forage loot table, that'd be great.

Am one of the ones that advocates not treading too much on other professions toes, not so much out of some idea that their income should be protected etc, but more from an old fashioned notion that, for example, if you wanted to make food then you should invest the SP in the relevant skill and then be able to do it. It's back to the old choices and consequences idea that recent dev thinking seems to think is limiting. Well yeah, it is limiting. Suck it up and be an adult

So, while I can see the harm, to other professions, I don't see that creating a foraged food item that mimics the effect of a low end chef food, or gives a healing boost, an accuracy mod, all at levels just below that of a crafted item would do. Would it still be attractive?

Well, it's an RP element, you're wilderness-man/woman/thing and you've not got a packload of crated goods from town... it's better than nothing. Or, you're just a beginner and can't afford the quarter million credits for a full stack of blob candy (I kid you not. Welcome to Bria) so you use what you can find. Or you're out on a long hunt and have run out of accagaram, that old action pool is taking a hammering and you just need a get me home fix.... Now, under those circs, wouldn't a 95% effective foraged food look awfully attractive?

I do hope, if we get an In Concept thread of our own, that this idea gets carried over there as it deserves.

For the meantime,
