and SOE slides down the slipery slope of stupidity. first you dumb down specials and such to be cookie-cutter damage levels. then you make everything level-based, including damage. then you remove crafting from doctor. then you remove the one thing that keeps the kombat kiddies from grinding all day everyday.

Patch 20- they're removing all current weapons from the game and will instead have a single gun for each profession. This will create a new level of fun and excitement as players go on the endless search for where their 15 bucks a month is going.

I don't know. I read the comments as diversifying the abilities of the entertainers more than simply dumbing it down. If they had said they were just removing BF and left it at that, I would probably agree. But if they remove that one ability and replace it with multiple abilities that are actually useful, I would see it as a step in the right direction.

let's put it this way: if SOE removed combat specials from combat profs, but added "combat buffs" that each profession could use in battle, wouldn't you consider that a dumbing down of the game? Just because they add more things, doesn't mean those thigns will be as usefull or neccesaryas the skills entertainers currently enjoy.

I can add 20 new skills to Ranger while taking away harvesting and tracking. But unless those 20 new things are more usefull than harvesting and trapping, it wouldn't be a positivegain. Gaining new skills doesn't mean gaining more powerful skills.

Ok, with the implementation of "props," they could only be making it more complicated. It would be very difficult to dumb down the entertainer / musician / dancer professions at this point, unless they removed flourishes. However, this change also means that they are no longer "necessary," as others have put it before me in this thread this game requires a level of interdependency to operate. How essential will the entertainer professions be without the need to heal battle fatigue? They won't be necessary at all, just like Image Designers who are basically a more intricate extension of the character detail manager that you are given upon character creation.

I don't think that this is a positive change, unless they removed the need to grind anything. Then, people would have time to see shows put on by entertainers. Unfortunately, so many people are in a constant state of grinding money / faction points / experience that I doubt the entertainers will have many visitors in these ventures.

I am convinced that many new players try to gain as much money as they can as quickly as they can for reasons beyond their own acknowledgement. Someone who asked our hunting group if they could join us actually asked if we would pay him for helping us. This same person was CL 22, constantly attacked Ancient Bull Rancors at the drop of a hat then ran towards us screaming "help!" And kept asking what would make him rich.

It's not "what" will make a man rich, but "who" will make a man rich.

I couldn't believe my eyes...well I could actually.......reading that thread when on the first page some idiot jedi came on said well you better beef up healer if you are taking away battle fatigue!

Never mind that it will be the final nail in the coffin for entertainer!

You have to force interation otherwise people just won't interact in a video game, they bring their real world selfishness in game and go wild because there are no restrictions

Sure people that are hell bent on actually interacting with other players will gather together (usually in player cities) but if BF is removed it will disadvantage players like myself who actually go to the cantinas to get BF healed and to talk to people, many people come just to get their BF healed but will actually interact if someone starts talking to them, but without the need to come to a cantina those people will most probably never interact with other players other than to buy goods, and that can only be bad for the game.

Well, I've got / had a couple of entertainer toons here and there and, hmm, I've got mixed feelings about this. Until I know what these 'props' are likely to be and what the buffs are that are being offered in exchange for BF healing I don't know what I think.

OTOH, from a purely selfish Ranger PoV. There goes that idea for having BF healing in camps, eh?

OK, at this point, adding up all the little things don't make sense (I expect there to be a few, but this is getting crazy....) I want to know what the dev's are smoking. Are they trying to kill the entertainer profession?

Well the borrowed some staff from EQ and EQ2 and I understand they never really had just a social profession like entertainer. Some of the reasons it works here is because they jumped in and gave combat people a reason to see entertainers, for good or bad reasons. I say leave Battle Fatigue in AND add in the positive reasons for going. Then it might be like it was Pre-CU. I'd rather not see a ton of buff bots around again.

Dev2: We've already done that.

Dev4: Curses!

Dev3: I know, we could just eliminate battle fatigue from the game.

Dev1: Brilliant!

fixed?

lol Takanudo!

The point behind removing BF and replacing it with props is that they want to make sure that Entertainers are not necessary (no joking). If they are necessary then they will be AFK macro'd. Since they are not getting rid of the ability to AFK macro they want to give entertainers something that can be a benefit without being "necessary." Thereby removing the temptation to buff bot.

Unfortunately it looks like props (no inherent benefits besides being cool) are coming now, and additional buffs to replace BF are coming "soon." Hopefully the entertainer corrs can impress upon the devs the necessity of not removing BF until the new buffs are ready.

There seems to be two camps in the entertainers themselves. Those who want BF and anything else that ties them to combat thrown out. They are tired of being kicked around and exploited by combat characters and buff bots. They play entertainer because entertainer itself is fun and they do not particularly care what material goods or credits they get out of it.

Then there are those who want to provide a useful function or service to other players within the game. The game is about a war, and therefore combat, and they want a place in it.

(and then of course there is the gray area with the people who feel both ways)

I myself am in the second camp. I think that new players, when they start off, want to know what the purpose of their profession is. They want to make friends, join a guild, participate. What do they bring to the table? What service or ability do they offer a guild? In my opinion there should be something inherently beneficial in the entertainer profession. Entertainers should not feel like they have to pick up a combat class to make meaningful and useful contributions to a guild/group of friends/the game.

Maybe buffs will do this, but until I see what they are I will not agree that removing BF is the right direction to go.

What are they doing to the game?

Is this going to be a FPS in a year, only combat profs left?

All other profs are just for filling up the empty spaces between the battlezones?

Please can someone of the more enlightened give me hope for the future. I have lost my last bit of faith, I only see sadness. Please can someone say something that makes me feel looking forward to still play this game in a year.

I better stop reading the forums and enjoy playing until it's over........

Great idea for props: wearable pets! This was an idea posted by the CH Corr on the Dancer board a while ago. Snakes for the exotic dancers! Mini reptilian fliers that would perch on your shoulder! Big cats you can ride on! Little organ grinder monkeys! /grin Special commands for entertainer pets so that they dance, do more tricks, etc.

Ya... its fluff... but its pretty darn cool fluff. We'll see if any of those ideas make it.
