I love the idea Owen. This thread made me feel like I did when I first got to these boards reading all the new ideas for Ranger.

I'd like to comment on one thing that Gelotri brought up: "if we have a Ranger only accessable area, then all the other professions will want the same"

From what I got out of reading Owen's ideas is that every profession does or rather would have thier own areas, he just was using Ranger, Scout, CH, and SL as an example of a group. The combat professions could have thier own thing where they could go duel or compare fighting styles and also have specific quests. Or crafting classes like Chefs could have bake offs or something. There are tons of things you could do to make each group have thier own areas.

That being said I like the idea of each group having its own class related location. As a Ranger I don't want my meeting place to be in a city like Keren or Espa, I'd rather have to take a hike out Taike or Wayfar. Just as crafters would want to stay within the city limits. Doc's could meet in the upper lvls of Med centers, crafters could meet in like a kitchen stadium(like that Iron Chef show) and hang out and have crafting competitions or show off thier best work. Combat professions could do the same but in some sort or Gladiator area in the basement of a guildhall or something. There are some professions like politician or BE that dont fit into groups though. For those you could have multiple access, like for BE they could be allowed into the Scout group but also the crafting group or whatever. I donno, maybe I'm just rambling, its close to 5 AM here so ill get to bed and see if you guys think im nuts in the morning.

This is the very best idea I've seen in the Ranger forum for a long while. Kudos to you Owen. I really, really hope this gets to the DEVs.

Just wanted to say these are some great ideas that I also feel are needed to make ranger a more desireable profession and more integral to the game. Being a master of the outdoors ahould also include some herbal healing knowledge making ranger more desireable to groups. A ranger could have some field wound healing, poison and disease healing and applying, and some metaphysical mind healing through tranqual camp settings. Just a few more ideas to chew on enjoy.

Although a nice idea i dont want to take anything away from docs, cm's and medics. Healing is clearly their domain and although it would be nice to have some added wound healing, poison/disease curing by sitting in our camps i fear it would take far too much away from these professions

Hehe cool.

The problem i have is when i post new ideas or my vision on how i see things i reference back to these pages and other threads ive made simply because i see it as an overall picture of how i see ranger. Shame i couldnt arange em all into one big apendix so i could reference back alot easier and people could understand what im talking about lol

Taking that into account and with Player Cities added to it, it will take much more hunting area away from what we currently have.

The new zones would take nothing away from what we already have because they have nothing to do with the existing zones (planets).

They are comepletely different and you 'shuttle' to them. They are like very small planets with restrictions in place to force the players on a route (ie non climbable mountains, long and thin maps etc)

Infact this idea would ADD to the hunting zones we currently have, with NO buildings or cities to look at.

The idea is that the ranger can take groups and out as a guide and hunt with them.

As far as these zones go, it could be similar to the Corellian Corvette. The main differences would be the access method (requiring a specific profession to get in) and the content inside the area. Although I seem to remember a Dev saying that it would be some time before they added more instanced dungeons (as the server load was difficult to handle).

You only have a small part of the larger planets anyway. You could conceave of a zone like this on the same planet, actually.

Ranger is not a profession. It's a lifestyle.

Prety cool thought, perhaps sort of like battlefields?

The part that you can drive around in a planet is only part of it. They built it this way, first, to provide the correct scale. Second, they wanted to have the ability to expand later. What I was thinking was that they could patch in more remote parts of the planet, ones that the standard travel lanes do not cover. You may have to get a location from an NPC and say, "convince" them to hook you up with some kind of transport to it. Once there, successive attempts by other players would ether have a "no ship available" or will take you to an alternate location and adventure. When JTL come it would allow you to use your ship in it's place, but other asking while you are on the adventure would not get cooperation and a WP. I would hope that the WP is random enough not to work if folks tryed to post a list.

The scale that we are talking would make it difficult to have many folks at once in the same place like the Geo cave.

Sorry for bumping this after a week but I'm about a week behind on forum reading (at least judging by the dates on the posts I am reading).

As for this sort of zone, an instanced 'dungeon' would be quite similar to this. The only potential worry is a non-enclosed space. The idea of spawning a new instance of a zone for every group that wants to go is exactly what the Devs did for the Corvette. An NPC lets you go there. The only difference between doing something like that and adding a "remote" zone on a planet is that the remote zone is outside. But the technology should be there.

sounds cool mate

I bet this thread along with every other post ive made has fallen on deaf ears though, its a shame we dont get any simple feedback from devs now and then
