Thread: WTH are they thinking with Camo kits?
"People rarely travel beyond 2000m from town, when they do there generally is nothing out there, no mobs NPC or creatures, nothing."
- Personally I'm the exact opposite. I never come within 2km of town (all that is there are those dang easy critters
).
- If youare out therelong enough, the system will start spitting out spawns near your location.
- The system does seem to like to group the spawns together though... If I find a spawn of Bantha... Over the next dune I'll find some Ronto... Andover in the direction, a spawn of Swooper gang. ![]()
Ummm...sj this is the Ranger forum. (jk) Really though, there are plenty of things out there, in fact, that's where most things are that aren't near cities. You won't find swamp humbabas near any city, so if you want tons of juicy corellian domesticated meat you have to cut your teeth in the rangering profession and see the galaxy!

Why on earth would you run from one city to another?
Buy a ticket for 200c, sell the resources to pay for it and about 100 trips and save yourself about an hour.

Look anyone can come up with a reason to do something. EI: "because I'm a ranger". But that, for me, doesn't make it a good reason. I want to be a ranger, have purpose. Mean something to the community and be a value in SWG society. 99% of the crap a Ranger needs for resources, even the best creatures can be found within 2000m from towm.
Just the other day I spent 6 hours, yes 6 hours running across Dathimor, want to know how many mobs I ran into? That's right NONE! So you can run from city to city because you are a Ranger, but I guess I'm just not as adventurous as you...
Maybe the system is still buggy and I should have seen millions of critters, but I didn't and haven't many times and that is all that I can go by.
Here is why I am upset about this whole situation.
Take a look at the Bazaar. Tell me where I can find large quantities of Yavinian fungus or Endorian whatever and Dathomirian something or other? Uh, I have searched the entire galaxy, even if i can weed through the absolutely horrible interface for the bazaar,I found none, zip, nada, nothing.
So, in order for me to get my fungus, I have to setup a harvester, but, I gave up my surveying skill long ago and now I have to either find somone to go to Yavin/Endor/Dathomir with me with surveying skills and setup a harvester or take my chances and drop the harvester in some random place and hope for the best.
To me this defeats the purpose of the self sufficient Ranger living off the land. I know it has been said before butI thoughtI would chime in with my opinion. We can make a small city with my HTFB, which has crafting stations BTW, why can I not make a small collection device that can retrieve quantities of the materials I need? Or forage for them?
Dammit SOE, what were you guys thinking?
There is a MAJOR difference in getting polymer and steel, and in getting Rori hard wood or Dathomir Fungus. No one harvest these, so now, peope will set hard wood harvester specificaly aimed at selling us = expect insane prices.
I mean, what if, this week, Rori Hard wood suck? Like 100 qual? Then it is unsalable to anyone but rangers...
sj, I just don't have that same experience with nothingness. I find that very often if I go 5000+ meters away from any city, for no reason at all, I'll will usually at the very least find some creature I've never seen before. There are some creatures who stick to specific places. On myhome planet, Corellia, I know of a couple places where I can always find a creature that exists nowhere else on that planet(that I have found). There is one mountain where I canalways find a devil gulginaw, and another one where I can find a wooded paralope. I kinda like that about rangering. On my server, these animals are extremelyhard to find.It appears that nothing spawns if noone is around to make them spawn, but if you hang out in an area for a while, you might find that it has something different to offer that maybe noone else knows about except you. Of course, that's not always the case.
This flora stuff for the camo kits is BS. I'm sorry, I understand the whole dependency thing on other proffesisons. But it doesn't make sence for a ranger to need someone else for something like camo kit. We already need that for traps and camps. I can accept that.
Not to mention, to find wild oats, even with medical forage is rediculous. I have medic. In about 3 hours of wandering about trying some medical forage, I found 2 wild oats. I need 15 of them for the kit. Do you really thing that medics are going to be waisting time with medical forage at its slow rate, to get these for us. Why should medics forage be useful when the scout forage isn't? Makes no sence at all.
The items we need for the camo kit should be attainable by scout forage. As a ranger the forage is supposed to be better, and get more items. Even with us doing it that way, it would be slow as hell. With medical forage I kept deleting things that weren't what I was looking for. Why would a ranger put up a metal, mechanical harvester that puts out pollution, in the wild. The place they hunt and want to keep natural? Yea that makes sence. I gaurentee artisans will not be harvesting this stuff just for us. To much trouble.
Bottom Line: Rangers should not have to depend on other proffessions for camo kit ingredients. If they are only one time use per kit, then it should not take us hours just to get ingredients for one. I spent a few hours yesterday trying to get stuff for Tatooine camo. I have bones, hide, meat, and only 2 of 15 wild oats. Yea that makes sence.
DeltaX, what is your take on this? Anyway we can bring this up with Dev next time?
To all Valcyn Rangers,
I'd like to set up a way for us to help each other in light of the need of resources that are primarily obtained by surveyors. As a wannabe-Master-Ranger who does surveying on the non-elite planets (mostly Corellia, Naboo, Rori, and Talus), I'd like to get in contact with other Rangers to cheaply sell/barter my excess resources. Although I do sell my materials on the bazaar, I'd love to sell/trade with other rangers at lower-than-bazaar costs. (Flash me your title!)
