Owen,
LOL. I am lazy. Free is not worth the horror stories of Tivo's in finding the rare babies. I would buy a trapped adult from you any day over hunting it myself. But at the same time looser restrictions need put in the game for those wanting the bragging rights to saying they got it themselves.
The problem is ultimately the first day you might get a million credits for the ultra rares but if you can trap them by week two they will cost no more than any other BE pet.
I would love a horned lizzard though and I will support you trap all the current non-tamables. Then be able to offer that to us to be tamed. That AOE poison rocks. Since BE's have problems with AOE sticking, this would good and quite possibly put us back into the PvP arena. It is a non-Rare that people would not be too afraid of sacrificing to flamethrowers and TKM.
Nemo,
If you put up a thread outlining what you as Rangers were promised and what needs to be fixed A.S.A.P. I believe every CH would support you. You have played a broken profession for a long time, we had a profession that was mostly workable, every publish we have new bugs, every publish our pets get nerfed more, every publish. We aren't rulers supreme anymore, and probably never will be.
I think TKM is what Rangers should have been, but they invented TKM and at the moment it is way overpowered.
No Nemo, I never take anyone DNA sampling. You know why? First is the mask scent thing, if i do happen to get close enough to sample without getting aggroed the rifleman would have to be able to mask scent as well. Second on the ocassion when i took someone along with good combat skills they never waited, oh wow rancor, KILL. So I do it myself, solo, BE/swordsman. A sword against a rancor is well, not so good.
You stated why i don't use pets with large groups, pets to me are more than meat shields, they are my friends. Right now I have a BE razor cat that I am very careful with, had him for months, his vitality is down to 92% but he is my ingame Bud.
Yes if you could catch the untamable pets would that shed a different light on things.

The problem isn't getting support for a fix. The problem is convincing the Devs to make the time. As it is, a proper fix will take too long to throw into any of the coming publishes. Getting the stuff we were promised a long time ago might fit but the game has changed so much since then that I'm not sure it would be worth it.
And I do feel for the CHs. But you still do have quite a bit of power. Given the BE pets that I've seen, 70 CL of them would be amazing for PvE. But CH really could use a few PvP tricks (sort of like we need them). I'd recommend giving pets the 1/4 damage rule as well but then they'd probably be overpowered.
I personally don't think TKM is necessarily overpowered. They have lots of advantages but they can only dish out kinetic damage. The problem comes from mixing TKA with another combat profession. Then you get all the benefits of TKA but can switch damage types if they have high kinetic resist.
As for the DNA sampling, that's too bad to hear. I know I usually used to go with my BE friend when he went sampling (then he dropped BE). But I do know the type of player you are referring to. If you are having trouble with Rancors using a sword, you might want to go when buffed and armored (if you already don't). I've seen plenty of Rancors killed that way. I don't know for certain but the Master Heavy Swordsmen that I've seen around could kill almost anything.
I completely agree with you on the pet approach. But, without many other combat skills, pets were one of the few ways I could contribute to a group. Even so, I don't think I ever had a pet below 90 vitality unless it was a throwaway PvP pet. But I did get into a few arguments over the use of pets in a group. So I ended up a Master Rifleman.
If it was made so that we could capture adults that you could then use, wouldn't that defeat the purpose of pets being untamable? I'm guessing the Devs have some reason to only let you tame certain pets. Although it might just be based on size scaling so that capturing adults might be allowed. Who knows.

As a Ranger I'm not thrilled with this idea, but perhaps it should be able to automatically produce certain KINDS of animal harvests: domesticated milk, eggs, domesticated meat, bones, and perhaps one type of hide per planet (whatever the domesticated meat wears) subject to the planet's resource qualities.
In other words, not all animals can even be farmed. It would be contradictory to raise wild meat in a manger, and not everything domesticates. But it's also ridiculous that we go into the wild to get "domesticated" harvests and milk cows; I didn't train Ranger to be a milkmaid. Yet we'd even still have that business whenever "wild milk" had better stats than domesticated. Same deal for the hides.
Notice I'm throwing them bones (har har.) At least on my server (Kettemoor) there's never been a huge bone market, if only because meat and hides pay better.
We'd probably get into a squabble over avian meat, though. On one hand you should be able to raise chickens...say, pharples. On the other hand pharples aren't very big (small harvest) and you can't coop up flits or perleks. They go sour in captivity.
