Thread: A Pricing Guide for Animal Resources
Thank you Vosted! This is excellent! I am definitely going to play around with the calculations. The modifier on things is probably slightly different per galaxy, since we all have slightly different economies/demand.
This is definitely one for my bookmarks!
Herbivore Meat, Fish Meat, and Dathomirian Insect Meat go towards making stimpacks. Avian Meat goes into making enhancement packs.
I just want to check, as this conflicts with what you had published before in your Field Guide to Crafters. There you only list "Bio-Engineer - Pet Stimpack D - 24 units" for fish meat and "Bio-Engineer - Pet Stimpack C - 18 units" for Dathomirian insect meat. Are these in fact used for stimpacks?
BTW, while you can't really calculate it in you should add some price to resources that have not been on the server a long time and you have some in bulk. Just figuring out the regular price for high stat resource, then adding on something for example for supply and demand.
If there is no good hides on the server and you stock piled some from a month ago, now the time to sell and for high prices too. Especially when dealling with Master Armorsmiths you shouldn't get to shy with the price, most of them have enough money to pay you way over what you might be charging.

I am confused by your question.
They are used for stimpacks. These stimpacks can only be used on pets, but they're still stimpacks.
Hmm cool, been hearing about your pricing method and finally came and checked it out. RoB will have to try it out.
Nice work.
Ahh, perhaps I was confused. I was comparing the information from your Field Guide to Crafters with the statement in the original post in this thread that
"Herbivore Meat, Fish Meat, and Dathomirian Insect Meat go towards making stimpacks. Avian Meat goes into making enhancement packs. Other meats go toward Bio-Engineer tissues. Theoretically, Chefs are also a potential market, but until SOE decides to give the Chef class the Luvin'(tm) it so richly deserves, they're not really much of a market. Hides and Bone are for armorsmiths, in the main."
I thought that you were saying that medics, doctors, and combat medics used fish meat and dathomirian insect meat to make stimpacks, when in fact it is bio-engineers recipe for pet stimpacks that require these two resources.
So I guess the real question is to make sure that Bio-Engineer recipes for pet stimpacks use the same percentages that medic stimpacks use (66% OQ and 33% PE), resulting in using the same averaging formula: ((2*OQ+PE)/3).

They are. I asked Radnog to confirm it shortly before writing the message that started this thread. He confirms that Pet Stim schematics are 66% OQ, 33% PE like the regular stimpacks.
If anyone is interested, you can follow the link to Mehtee's Organics in my sig, and see a spreadsheet using this pricing scheme in action. If anyone is interested, I'll share the formulas for pricing each category. You do need to change each statistic to the appropriate cell reference, depending on how you set up your sheet.
For the "Medics, Combat Medics, and Doctors" and "Bio-Engineers (Stimpacks)" sections, the unit price is calculated by the formula
=IF((2*OQ+PE)/3>=900,ROUND((2*OQ+PE-2500)/10,1),IF((2*OQ+PE)/3>=800,ROUND(((2*OQ+PE)/3-700)/10,1),IF((2*OQ+PE)/3>500,ROUND(((2*OQ+PE)/3-200)/60,1),5)))
For the "Bio-Engineers (Tissues) and Chefs" section, the unit price is calcuated by the formula
=1.25*IF((OQ+PE+FL)/3>=900,ROUND((OQ+PE+FL-2500)/10,1),IF((OQ+PE+FL)/3>=800,ROUND(((OQ+PE+FL)/3-700)/10,1),IF((OQ+PE+FL)/3>500,ROUND(((OQ+PE+FL)/3-200)/60,1),5)))
For the "Armorsmiths, Architects, and Tailors" section, the unit price is calcualted by the formula
=1.5*IF((7*OQ+3*MA+3*SR+UT)/14>=900,ROUND((3*(7*OQ+3*MA+3*SR+UT)/14-2500)/10,1),IF((7*OQ+3*MA+3*SR+UT)/14>=800,ROUND(((7*OQ+3*MA+3*SR+UT)/14-700)/10,1),IF((7*OQ+3*MA+3*SR+UT)/14>400,ROUND(((7*OQ+3*MA+3*SR+UT)/14-200)/60,1),3.3)))
If you use StarOffice or OpenOffice.org instead of Microsoft Office (Excel), all of the commas need to be changed to semi-colons. If you decide to not use the 1.25 or 1.5 multipliers, you can remove them from the very beginning of the formula.
If you wish to display your inventory for potential buyers, all of these spreadsheet programs will allow you to publish as .html (MS Office) or save as .html (StarOffice and OpenOffice.org).
Public Service Announcement: If you don't have a spreadsheet program and wish one, OpenOffice.org is free and is a full featured office suite that does everything MS Office does (other than a few very esoteric features) and also converts directly to Adobe PDF format with one click (which MS Office doesn't do at all). Our school has started using it so they don't have to keep up with the every-other-year several-thousand dollar expense of staying current with MS Office. You can check it out at www.openoffice.org.
Great formula's, I too built a spreadsheet. But I think the prices were coming in a little low on the higher quality stuff, so I tweaked the divisor in the price calc. from /10 to /6 and I got results in line with what I have been sellng for. But I will test this, as I am finding that buffing in particular is now all the rage...supply and demand..so particulary for avian meat you can charge a fortune for the good stuff.
Great math job!

Fellow Rangers... after hunting for the last 3 weeks straight, I've come to a couple of conclusions regarding pricing. First, let me pay the utmost respect to Volsted, he is one of the few people I've come across that likes to know the 'logic' behind how the game works, a personal pursuit of mine also.
Conclusions -
1) Ranger are the working class in StarWars, and just like the working class in RL, they are making the least amount of money
We spend the most amount of actual Game Time collecting resources, and get paid the least amount of cpm (credits per minute) Yeah, i just made that up.
2) This may be my mistake alone, but I'll share with everyone. I made the mistake of always hunting the current hot resource and selling right away. Hunting 10k of Avian, sell it, hunting some more. Did this for 3 weeks straight, and I'm all hunted out. Checked a couple of the other boards, and it seems that this is the sure way to burnout. After talking to a couple of Artisans (Surveyor-types) I figured out that the best way to make credits is to hunt... and then wait and sell out-of-shift when the resource has moved on. I had Docs left and right wanting Avian meat NOW!!! So I sold it to them... no longer, I'll wait until its out of shift, and then sell. (BTW this only works if your saved resource is better than what is currently available). Once you have enough working capital (credits) there is no need to sell right away (This is all on the premise of getting the most credits for your time, please don't use this on your PA, or friends)
3) I've never understood pricing resources on their quality. Did it take you less time to harvest the higher quality resource over the lower quality resource? Should you be paid less, for the same amount of effort? I always hunt the highest resource available, never the other stuff. Say you have a 700+ Avian on Rori, and 800+ Avian on Corellia. Why bother with the 700+ resource? With sites like www.sgqcraft.com there is no reason not to be in the loop, with regards to what is the best resource available right now (please contribute to the site, it is good to help out others)
4) I've been amazed at the number of Docs who love Rangers who can bring them 10k of meat at a time. I guess other people just bring them 2k or 3k at a time, for some quick cash. But they can't run their factories with just 3k, they need a lot more to make their crates of Buffs (which BTW are a nice source of credits for them, although it does require them to be in-game and working). I assume it is the same with with Armorsmiths.
I've probably got two or three other rants in my head, but I've got the 'Jones' to get back to the action. Thanks for listening and may your hunts always be prosperous.
