Thread: Master Ranger needs a Crowning Jewel
No please. I'd rather not have Rangers gain any type of CH skill. Give us some TRUE distinction. Not a secondary CH role. If I wanted to use higher level pets, I would get some CH skill. Not all Rangers take on CH or use non-CH pets.
What I would like to see that hasn't been mentioned is an increase % of group harvests. Not sure where they'd put that in our skill tree but even a 10% increase at Master Level would be a welcomed addition.
"Not all Rangers take on CH or use non-CH pets."
- Agreed.
- But not all Rangers use Ranged weapons. And not all Rangers use Conceal. And not all Rangers use Traps. ![]()
- As long as adding improved Handling skill doesn't subvert something else, I'm all for adding more flexibility to the profession. ![]()
- Whethera Rangerwants to usethe new abilityor not is entirely up totheir play style.
More traps, harvesting, etc. are good ideas and will support them if this groups comes to it's conclusion, but maybe something more rare... not sure, yet, but I am thinking.
The cabin, for example, is a good idea that is already in N'Rass's links. Please see his signature.
I have one fear with traps working on pets.
I am a master CH and almost master ranger, after seeing what they did to this professional combo with harvesting (now when i group with my pets my harvests go way down). I'm afraid that when this goes in i'll start trapping my own pets and group member pets, making trapping useless to me as well.
Probably been mentioned numerous times already...
But I'd love to see a camo kit for PvP at the top, when I imagine a ranger able to sneak an entire team of friends and pet troopers somewhere for an ambush I break into my kefka laugh for a good while. Maybe it'd finally add tactics to PvP over all thezerging 24/7 too.
*tries to picture how much paint it'd take for an atst though*
Ranger Brody: "...We're gonna need a bigger brush."
(hehe and a cookie for the first ranger to get the joke) ![]()
2. Camo Kit ingredients shouldnt be planet specific. This is the future for gods sake we are not rubbing berries and putting plants in our clothing. Should be on same idea as a phase camo kit to phase our image to blend in the enviroment.. Like on Predator.
Umm isn't it a long time ago in a galaxy far far away? Sorry had to do it ![]()
I was a Ranger near release for a while, but since I recently rolled a Trandoshan I picked it back up.. (Trandoshans are built for harvesting and Teras kasi.. so why not do the two classes I wanted to at release? Atleast now Rangers get tracking, yet to see what it does)
I do agree, Master Rangers need something special..
Master Smuggler gets 30%+ Slices
Master Commando gets Flamecone2 (Nuff said..)
Master Rifleman gets Strafeshot2
Master Crafters get items that they need greatly
Master Dancers get a nice boost in their mind buffing abilities
Master Doctors/Combat medics get the VERY noticable boost in their medicinal usage abilities and their skill at using them
Etc...
Personally, if everyone wants to jump ship and leave Ranger, that's fine with me. I became a Ranger over time...started as a crafter, needed organic materials, started going after em myself. Found out how much I like roaming, started up the Ranger path. I still love being a Ranger, and yes I wear my master title most of the time. Actually tends to get me more respect than most others....go fig. The Master rank does need something else, no doubt about that, but the class itself needs tweaking first...to make us more than glorified master scouts.
And, for gods' sake, get rid of all these BH Tracking dabblers....before the upgrade, there were like 20 rangers in the galaxy that were actually at or headed for Master...now I see Novice Ranger all over the place...and only 2 of the over 20 I've trained in the last day or 2 have said they're actually in it for the Ranger aspect, and not for Tracking. Btw, I charge for Tracking training....I know it may be a bit trite, but I'm sick of people considering Ranger a throwaway class (trust me, I hear this a lot....).
Master Ranger needs to be worth it...something significant...but general fixes are good, too....
NRAAS, thanks for those two threads of yours. Very nice...I've bookmarked them both.

Adding creature handling ability, whether it subverts something else or not, is a BAD idea. As has been stated, if you want high level pets, there is an option open to you for that (CH skill). If you want ranged weapon skill, there is an option for that too (Rifleman, Carbine and Pistol skill). But do not add it into the Ranger tree UNLESS you are going to make CH or Marksman a prerequisite (that's why BH's and Smugglers have ranged wepaon skill in their tree, they have marksman as a prerequisite).
As to Conceal or Traps or any other specifically Ranger ability that a particular ranger may choose to forego, oh well. The skills make sense being there on their own, not whether someone uses them or not. But don't add non-Ranger abilities to the tree and then say, "Oh, well it's your choice to use them or not." That makes no sense and breaks a good design.

- Alrighty then, obviously this concept does not sit well with several Rangers.
- It's a neat concept, but you are correct, it does impede into the Creature Handler profession a bit too much. ![]()
- I guess this is along the same lines as the Ranger Rifle thread, it simply conglomerates other profession's abilities into our own, but doesn't really add anything unique. ![]()
