Thread: Top Issue #5
I'm sorry too Ki_Gu_Lon... ![]()
The idea will remain on the State of the Profession, and hopefully we can resurrect it some new form in the future.
Ack. /agrre Ki-Gu-Lon.
Sad day when a Ranger would rather make money from harvesters than hunting.....sad day indeed.

N'Raas, nothing was directed at you or anyone in particular for that matter. Casual play is a reason I've seen mentioned a few times, so it was just a reply to that pov and nothing else.
Here's the difference between us and miners, our harvests are included in normal game play where as mining is completely independed of any game play. I know they originally planned to have the mining skill in the game but scrapped it. Perhaps they felt that because it was independent of game play, that they wouldn't have enough miners to meet demand. Surveyors need extractors, because who is going to spend all of their play time sampling, except for a few dedicated players?
We are unlike other professions whose only income from PvE comes from missions. We can either do missions and just save up our harvest to sell as gravy or additional income,or we can do like many of us do and make it our full time jobs because 1. PvE is fun and 2. the resource shifts constantly keep the game challanging and forces up to keep on top of things in order to maximize our income potential.
I see you have decided to remove this for this month, which I think only displays your ability to set aside your own desires to find what the greater good is for the group. That is extremely commendable and I thank you for it. I'm not happy to see anyone unhappy, and I'd be willing to discuss it further and if someone can convince me creature harvestors is a good idea, then I'd back it as well. We're not always going to have a concensus, but I think you made the right decision to postpone this particular part of the issue list while we debate it further.
Perhaps if we could get SOE's take on it and if there's a way it might be implemented without hurting the economy or income of those currently living off their harvests, we can move the discussion forward or put it to bed.

The only way to get SOE's take on it is if wepropose it to them(ie: Top Issues since they are not allowed to respond any other way due to PR) and, unfortuanately, that doesn't appear to be acceptable.
Just because we submit an idea, an idea that many Ranger do like, does not mean they are going to implemented it. Maybe some of us do want to get some feedback on the topic from development, for good or ill... I would be ok if they put the issue "to bed", I don't want another player doing it for them.
It is just a proposal, but appearently we cannot even get it that far...
But hey, who cares what I think? Appearently my playstyle is not acceptable...

The idea is still in the State of the Profession list, even if it didn't make it into the Top 5 issues. ![]()
At the top of the post I made on the Correspondent Forum, I mentioned the list.
to the level of the kill?
That way a Ranger would always get better quality resources than a Master scout
for the same kill. It sort of makes sense considering Ranger should know the best
way to tan the hide, or butcher the creature.
As it stands now, a scout can get as much as a ranger with just a little more
work.
Sildas
TKA/Ranger
that means I usually pet the creature before I smash its face in!
"How about linking the resource quality to the level of the Ranger"
This suggestion has been debated in other threads...
When a Ranger takes down an animal, his benefit is gained through being able to harvest more resources.
So oncea Rangerfinds a quality resource, we can retrieve a higher quantity than the lesser skilled.
"as well as to the level of the kill?"
And this one too. ![]()
There is a request to improve the quality of material located on the advanced worlds.
Attaching a new resource to each creature would most likely put a large strain on the current resource system, and might not be feasible.
I was thinking that you would get only the critters type that spawned near it. This way you have to go out and look around at the type of critters and place them in areas that have spawns of that type of resource around it. /areatrack would have a new use this way. It also has a better dependancy of Ranger talents that can't be "programmed" into a machine. If it wasn't "catching" enough you may have to move it around a tad. If you could have a gaurenteed harvest like a mineral harvester with survey tool that probably would not pass muster and doesn't reflect how trapping works IRL imho...

But maybe the "surveying" could be done with an ability and not a tool? I don't see why we would need a device to locate migration patterns unless we are tagging and tracking herds...
"If you could have a gaurenteed harvest like a mineral harvester with survey tool that probably would not pass muster and doesn't reflect how trapping works IRL imho"
That brings up an interesting idea.
We could suggest that the "migration patterns" flucuate on a more regular basis... Perhaps 2-3 days.
Mind you, the resource itself doesn't need to change, simply where the hot spots are. ![]()
But I wouldn't call automated creature harvesting hunting. If you want to be a ranger, be a ranger. If you want to be a miner, be a miner. It isn't really the resources that makes the difference, it's how they're acquired. I don't think too many SWG miners are going to wind up with black lung.

What do you call coilspring traps, fox/racoon traps, cage traps, fish/lobster weir, pit traps, quial traps,etc...?
My family has many hunters/ Rangers.
My father is a Division of Forestry Ranger, he uses automated traps all the time to capture dangerous animals.
My uncle is an ex-U.S. Army Ranger, he knows how to make traps that capture animals as well as humans.
I use traps all the time when I go hunting.
This proposed method of Trapping is a reasonable method to implement automated trapping into the game.
Trapping is not lobbing "grenades" at an animal...
