Interesting way youve got your interface setup, mines a bit more cluttered,

How would you rotate the toolbar so that its vertical, i tried to do that once, but i failed, that would be really effective

Guys guys guys, and ladies too -

It's only / merely / just 8 stormies. I get missions off the rebel term with 4-6. I live through them. Easily. I do not stand there and shoot (anymore). I hit one with a bleed, run around avoiding them, hit another, run more... y'all catch on I am sure.

Well,it's *nine* STs and these are not your run-of-the-mill cannon folder; so be careful here.

From what I've read on TC, these scans can start at any time in any place. There are no safe rebel controlled areas that these scans never occur.

When traveling on a vehicle near a nest of aggro mobs you can randomly be forced to stop for the scan while the mobs come on over and kill you. While carefully pulling mobs one at a time from a nest you can randomly be forced to submit to the scan messing up your combat and careful pulls.

And yes, if you fail the scan or kill the probot a squad of super high HAM stormtroopers will instantly spawn and attack you. If you actually have the combat skills to kill them all you apparently get no faction for them and they do not drop anything. Your other option is to try to jump in a vehicle and speed away, possibly messing up a mission you were trying to finish.

In other words, this crackdown sounds like a major pain to me.

Actually, I believe Rebels are turned Overt if they are caught with contraband. So you might be in for a bit of a bruising if you aren't carfeul.

Ok, then this is why I think it would be much more benifitial to us if instead of/or addition to any conceal bonuses we get (which again I don't agree with) we at least get the abiltiy to detect a scan comming. If we have a 30 - 60 sec forewarning we can call off our attack, find a safe region, and generally prepare for the scan.

Can you areascan and detect the probots and avoid them?

I know this would be a pain but at least its something.

Well hopefully, areatrack will detect the npc probots (it did the numerous times I was hunting outside Kandarra on Naboo) after the patch. I personally am tired of the GCW, and am searching for a way to make my Ranger a little more self-sufficient. I have gotten to the point where i dont hunt in groups much, and with my Player City so far out in the wilderness of Dantooine (New Hope) i dont see much hunting party travel where i am. With the crackdown, i think ill be sticking to Dantooine, but it will suck when i need Rifleman training. I love the idea of being a rebel, but ( and this is just me) i hate grinding out faction points, its worse than the chef profession!

Hopefully, i would like to see the Outdoorsman concept put into live, with npc enabled traps and snares, as well as camo protecting from said npc's. If im out running around in the wilderness, why is it that the non-ranger npcs, seem to get twice as much HAM than i do, smack me areound whenever they want, spawn like Darth Vader after a midi-clorian laced prostitite and im not allowed to even hide while sneaking past!?

I love being a Ranger, but the devs need to add a little more realism and some help with our class.

If commandos get to do all that uber damage, why cant i freakin walk past a Mauler without being noticed. I dont think thats too much to ask!

Rangers Rule.

good question, Anth_Flurry, but I think that the scans are so random that the droids won't be in the area physicaly for you to track them until you are actually being scanned. I could be wrong tho. Plus it seems like most players will be dealing with these scans not much more than a few times a week for the heavy gamers, so being able to /areatrack and catching one of these droids would be an extremely lucky event unless you are constantly using it.

Now if you had some forewarning via a ranger ability much like the "you are being stalked by . . ." message when the probe droid is spawned, maybe you could /areatrack it and run in the opposite direction that it is coming from in order to avoid the scan. but that would only work if it is spawned before it scans you and not as it scans you.

Another twist that comes to my twisted mind in order to make it more difficult for us to skirt this issue which I don't think we should be able to skirt, but if we did, it might work like this. We get a 30 second message saying you detect a probe droid in the area, we get a special cammo designed to conceal ourselves from droids by lowering or covering our body heat signatures. the trick to this is that they only work for one or two minutes and it doesn't conceal from anything else while it is on. so a ranger who gets the forewarning can slap on this cammo and all those in the party real quick to try to avoid the scan.

And here's my final twist which actually I think the devs could actually go for if the outdoorsman proposal comes thru for us. Give smugglers the ability to make a module for our camps that will conceal all those within the camp from these droids. perhaps a smuggler will need to be present to use it perhaps not. Maybe having one present makes it last longer, or increases the chances of it actually working. call it a "bio feedback" module that sends out signals that confuse scanning droids. Add a chance that the droid will see thru the ruse and call an attack party. Also modules like this would be added to the contraband list (ironic?).

"so I doubt now that if the Smuggler's finally get something to smuggle they would want to hand out that ability to Rangers so they aren't needed in the group."

A better way to look at the issue might be:

  • Concealment provides a defense against the scans... Unless you are revealed.

  • Once you are revealed, the Smuggler skill kicks in and ensures that the goods are not located on your person.

  • So a Smuggler / Ranger combo would be the ultimate backwoods smuggler.

As well,a Ranger can apply the /conceal effect to other people, butat a cost of the camo kits, while aSmuggler can do it for free by simply being in the group.

I will make this more obvious in the request to assure the Smugglers we aren't trying to replace them entirely.

There is a material (in military currently) that's primary use is to reduce the heat signature of hidden/parked vehicles so to speak and its been around for at least 15+ years that I know of. I dont know the fibers but its appearance is like woven plastic threads.

Anyway if a Droid or Humanoid has a basic or even an advanced form of scanner, then you know an intelligent species somewhere is going to invent a system to avoid, or foil these detection capabilities.

Oh and lets not forget 'stealth fighter' technologies.

I aint sen it but I know theirs an Infantry suit version somewhere.

With Star Wars being at least a type 1 civilisation they ought to have even something like a cold suit to mask heat signature..
