Hello again all, Sarbreth here (posted a few times on this thread in the past)

I have been gone from the game for about two months now because of Real Life issues taking my play time. I am glad to be back but back for what? I am a VERY patient and understading person, and since August when I finaly decided to become a Master Ranger I have been anxously waiting for some of the old 'promises' to come to fruition.

My two cents (i have about 20 cents into this so far lol) on this is split: There are 26 or so professions (not exactly sure), and every profession has some kind of gripe complaint wish ect. to be better than everyone else and have a specific 'niche' in the galaxy. PLUS actualy fixing and balancing the system PLUS a full space expansion, thats a lot of **edit**in work and tons of programming, not to mention adding content that 90%+ of the population (NOT a for sure figure) is crying for. Now dang thats tonso work for even an overstaffed crew, so right now Devs I give you props for at least making an attempt to keep up with *some* of whats on your pallete.

The OTHER side of me tho, feels that its Rangers got a lil' bit o' lovin from the devs, only to shut us up for a little while so they could ignore us easier. /sigh. I am tired of waiting, like many other people. Throw us some actual peanuts like working worthwhile traps or fix harvesting, something simple to 'update' us somewhat into the current market of things. Put off another small project like CH fixes or something that has gotten more recent attention than us (and I say CH because my other proff is MCH).

Feel free to flame as you see fit, i have my ice pack and burn cream ready.

As a smuggler who protested last month i say.

YOU GOTTA GET THEIR ATTENTION!!!!

Most of the stuff ive seen JustinG post could be summed up in about 1 minipublish!

And as a smuggler I personally LOVE the idea of being able to take ones self off the radar!!!

Fight!!!!

Because I will be a Ranger soon!

ok guys, i understand you got gimped with your player track not being able to figure faction...

but some of you want stealth, sorry... I am not into having any stealth action going on; it is just too much of an advantage, even if it is broken the moment you fire.

As for bitching and moaning about how you are useless inside dungeon hunts... guess what?? you are masters of the outdoors, so pissing and moaning about that is silly.

That being said, the things they said they were adding, the traps and such,if they havent by now... shame on them.

I understand the notion that camoflauge should help you get past npc, and monsters, but "invisibility" vs players is just nagganna nagganna nagganna happen.

Unless you have put some serious playing time into ranger and actually know what you are talking about,I suggest you dont assume so many things about ranger skills and tell us not to complain. This is the "ranger correspondant feedbackforum", not the "complain about other classes gettingupgrades" forum. By the way what skills do you have Guessit. I am only saying this because if you look at the facts the devs have not responded to practically any of our posts and people are starting to make their own suggestions about how they think it should be because no one else is talking to us. Have any other elite classes gotten ignored as bad as us? AlsoI have spent alot of time being a ranger and you dont know how it is until you actually put as much time as some people have into it and stay with it. I guessI am just mad at people who tell us to stop complaining and have not put time into ranger and have just chosen the easy way out by chosing the skills that the devs respond to and fix atLeast bi-anually lol.

Six months in and it was the Ranger profession that finally prompted me to write something in the forums. I've dabbled in many professions since I first signed up for this game and I've mastered a few. I've perused the profession and game guide forums for little hints to help me along the way and I've noticed that each has a certain tone. I don't believe I've read a profession forum filled with as many polite individuals as those here in the Ranger forum...except possibly for those who have working professions. I guess they canafford to be.

The sense I getfrom this community, apart from frustration, is that of adults attempting to reason with willful children which iscompletely the reverseof many of the other forums and I can't help but feel that the devs get a perverse kick out of being the intransigent rascals for a change. In the Commando forum, Thunderheart asked how they envisioned their profession (btw, stealth is popular). This seems a far cry from Rangers being told that we are supposed to be 'Super Scouts'. Granted, they've seen precious little change, but it illustrates the point. We're asking li'l Johnie why he didn't take out the trash...we're not telling him toget his backside out of that chair and do it. I applaud thedesire to be diplomatic and "adult" about these issues, but seriously, where exactly are we going and how fast are wegetting there?

To finish upmy first post, I'd like to show an example of how it is possible to negotiatepolitely, in an adult manner but assertively as well. You bringoutrageous things up as demands and work downwards. As I understand it, adults do this all the time. They call it"haggling".

We, the Ranger community Demand:

1. Instant animal death ray

2. Instant npcdeath ray

3. Instant player death ray

NowTH comes back with a bunch of corporate doubletalk that means 'no'.

Next, wepresent our counter demands. Something more reasonable.

We, the Ranger community Demand:

1. A newtrapsystemthatknocks a creature'sHAM down bya +10% per box, 50% at master(only employable once whencreature not in combat, reduces kill stealing, gives ranger unique combat effectiveness and group role)

2.Give wilderness stealth to Rangers, give tech stealth to Commandos. Wilderness stealth is totally visual, doesn't affect radar/turrets but can't be seen by players/npcs/animals. Tech stealth is the opposite. Invisible to radar and turrets but visible to everything else. (give commandos love too)

3. Instant player death ray

Now TH comes back withmore corporate doubletalk that means 'no'

The final stage of adult negotiation is then to mock Thunderheart in the forums until his coworkers look at him with shame and disgust and his performance as a man is called into question.

Seriously, this is not a priority because the Ranger community has not made it a priority.

My turn (actually a few turns - link times out for some reason and I can't post)

I started this with all intents of becoming a Ranger. After 2-3 months I made master.

Unless I absolutely have to I'll be a Ranger to the end of whenever.

The first question I have is:

How come my Master Ranger knows everything there is to know about an animal but knows nothing about a single plant. If you go out into the forest and don't know what poison ivy looks like... Well I have the phone number of a good doctor.

Any woodsman would have an extensive knowledge of all plants and a least a smidgen of knowledge of any minerals that just happen to be lying around.

Solution:Give the Master Rangera skill similar to Survey 1.Allow the Master Ranger to survey the immediate area forall plants, and possibly very rare ground deposits of minerals. Create a new command (for arguments sake) call it GATHER. This command will allow The Master Ranger tosample the plants but not to analyze them to determine the quality of the plant. If the Master Ranger wants to know the qualities of the plant then the Master Ranger must take the samples to an Artisan (unless the Ranger already has Artisan survey skills) to find out the qualities.

By the way as a Cub Scout I learned more about plants and minerals than my Master Ranger has.

My second question concerns harvesting (leave looting alone):

How come a novice scout can collect the same amount of meat, hides, and bones from a kill that a Master Ranger harvests (at least there is very little difference)?

A novice scout's harvesting should be limited to just enough of an item to create the camps and traps needed to advance to the next level. Reduce the amounts harvested to 25 percent of what they are today. Increase the quantities harvested by 5 per cent for each level up and add five percent when the scout reaches master.

Add 10 percent to thenovice Ranger and increase that amount by 10per cent for each level up.

When Master Ranger isobtained add the remaining 10 per cent and alow theMaster Ranger to harvest all three items from each and every animal slain. Also add a 110 per cent bonus to all members of a hunting party that has a Master Ranger in the party.

Limitingnovice scouts to small quantities of harvested goods willlimit the number of non scout and Ranger profs from using extra skill points to just pick up novicefor the harvesting abilities.

Rangers don't quit do they!

My 3rd questions is:

If I'm such a great woodsman having tons of informationon creatures then...

How come my traps don't work?

As a novice scout I could trap a vynock maybe long enough to kill it.

A good woodsmanmust be able to build a trap to capture any creature in the galaxy.

The traps should be designed completely ensnare, capture, hold, (whatever term you want to use) and possibly kill the weakest creatures. The effectiveness of the trapsshouldrange from overkill on the smallest creatures to 85-90 per cent complete entrapment on the toughest creatures.

The period of time the creature is completelyincapacitated should be long enough for the Master Ranger to kill that creature 85-90 per cent of the time.

A Master Ranger should be able to trap and kill every creature regardless of it's size or "meaness".

The 85-90 per cent is just an example. The effectivenessat trapping the creature should vary from always on theweakest to better than three quarters of the time on the strongest.

(killing the creature is coming in another post.)

I'm back!!!!

This is more along the lines of a comment.. maybe a little question.

Maskscent works very well leave it alone Don't touch it

Now about conceal...

How come it works against player type people in PvP but not against non-player type people as in NPCs?

I can understand conceal not working against an animal or a machine but people type oif NPCs shouldn't be any different than player type people. Conceal should work against equally well against all non-animal and non-robotic players.

Forget combatConceal. Just make conceal work properly.

If I'd read theseafter I spell check and signing them I'd have noticed the OTHER signature block

(Stupid, hick woodsman. May know a gnort from a rancor but sure doesn't know how to read)

Ah! To be camping under the stars.

The camps are nice - if i ever get to use one.

The features included in the camps are very nice except for

1. The advanced camps are supposed to keep the critters out. they don't. The creatures don't stay out even when the noobs don't invite them in by shooting them. Fix the camp creature repellent ability.

and.

2.Why am I building a crafting station I can't use in MY CAMP before I builda camp with a crafting station I can use?Ifwe have to have both, then the order the crafting stations are added to the camps needs to be reversed. As a goodtent pitcher I'dadd something usable by me before I'd make something I can't use at all.

This is the one I've been holding my breath to post!

Ifa Master Ranger is supposed to be the finest resource collector in the galaxy then how come I can't kill anything larger that a cute little bunnies? I actually got DBed by a tag team of 3 squalls.

I don't hunt the "adventure" planets solo anymore nor do I hunt the larger, more docile creatures anymore.

Being a master scout, a Master marksman and a Master Ranger does not granttheme the skills to survive very long againstmediumto large creatures. Ialso don't partake of PvP because it's no fun to be taken out with the first shot. I can't make a living on 2k Talusian rasp meat a week.

To give the Master Ranger the tools and skills needed to make a Master Ranger the premier outdoorsman that the profession should (requires) givethe Master Ranger the weapons and skillsneeded to hunt and harvest every creature in the galaxy. this includes people (players as in PvP).

I have only been a Scout, a Marksman and a Ranger so I'm taking a bit of liberty with my interpretation of the brawler and therifleman. Just cut me some slack about it.

First weapon- A big hunting knife and knife fighting sklls equal to level 4 for one-armed brawling. This can also be used against other players in PvP.

Second weapon.- A pistol capabile of killing almost all creatures up close and all people type players. The Master Ranger should stationaryaiming and knock down skills at the novice pistoleer level.

Third weapon- A carbine andthe skills to match carbines 4 for Marksman. The weapon should have more range and be as powerful or slightly more powerful than the pistol.

Fourth weapon a "big game" rifle. The riflke should be powerful enough thatcan kill any creature in the galaxy. It may take several shots to kill thebigest and meanestbut the weapon should be capable of doing the job. Give the Master Ranger the Rifleman's sniping ability.

Slow down therate of fire of this weapon to8 or 10 shots a minute. This makes therifle an effective weapon but limits it use in combat to a supporting role rather than an assault role.

Possible usage -

The Master Ranger conceals himself and a sniper (a real rifleman) in order to sneak close enough to an eneny encampment topickoff enemy players. The Master Rangerprovides cover fire for the sniper and if lucky gets in a shot or two on his own,

I think I'm finished now (for now)

Just a note to add:

All of this is for Ranger to Master Ranger. Sorry Scouts should be reduced to 50 per cent of the abilities of a Ranger.

I have to concur with everything on this threadso far. Ranger is strongly lacking in a lot of ways:

  • Traps should work on NPCs and People as well as on creatures. Not only that, but I should be able to detect OTHER Ranger's traps, and depending on my skill vs. his trapping skill, I should be able to defuse them. Traps should work indoors

  • The higher up in Ranger I go, the more likely it should be that when I conceal, that I vanish from Radar for players

  • Rangers should have some special connection with Rifleman, specifically (Conceal & ConcealShot seem to go together nicely anway) that make it an even more powerful combo

  • Camps, field kits should have hit points like vehicles and give defense modifiers to those inside

I guess that's it for now.

Why do I feel like there's fat chance we'll get these? Do they even matter now that the space expansion is imminent and everyone will be flying?
