Thread: This bothered me...

Could someone please point me to where I can study up on this stuff? Mission terminals are a bit of a bore... and I sincerely WANT to be known as a GREAT Ranger!

First of all id advise reading the sticky's at the top of the forum, there some great info in those and if you take a look at some of the new ideas (more specifically Freds stealth idea) you will be able to draw your own idea on how you want to advance ranger.

You will never be a ranger and no matter how much of a loner you want to be, aslong as you post here, you will be welcome and a friend. Thats the great thing about rangers, one ranger can be completely oposite from the rest, however they still have something their that connects them.

If you are wanting advice on templates try the template sticky thread, if that doesnt help, post your queries in another thread and someone will answer them promptly

Hope that helps

What are these "Badges" that are mentioned and how do I get involved with them?

These badges are things given to a character for doing certain things. For example in regards to what the original poster is talking about, the ranger didnt have any 'exploration' badges. These badges are given to any players that visit a certain point of interest (interesting places on the planet). Theres are only a few that give badges but those players who like exploring and finding things can have lots of fun locating and gaining the badges.

The main point of this was that he saw a master rangerwith barelyANY poi badges what so ever and this is sad because the ranger profession in itself SHOULD promote exploration, trapping, hunting and survial, not just one point (scout xp)

He most likely won't be a Ranger for long. Many people get that badge, but few people feel the calling to keep it.

Sadly this is true. They get tired of mission terminals and cant go out to the wilds and just enjoy the moment.

How many need the instant gratificationof Mission terminals and Glowing yellow beams? JB we know does. I do not. Best thig is Walkin or riding Ranger ( Hes my Mount) and hearing that Nice little notification I have a badge for what ever. And Not really trying. to get it. Theres My satisfaction.

But JB i know a few Master ranger tags with lots of badges on bria. When i ask them hey what you thnk of Blah. they are like No dude my Guildies made me a Bunch of Crates of stuff and i Grinded it out for Pub 10. Theres a Issue for us to take up.

I guess what I'm not understanding is "How do I get a POI badge?" Do I find a particular person and speak with them? Do they give me a destination and then I go out and find it? Do I have to kill something/someone there?

For instance, I notice that there is a POI badge to be had on Vreni Island on Corellia. Is there a person there that I speak with?

I appreciate all your help everyone!

Great ideas Owen.

And tis true, only paralopes on Talus (my home planet and current home) drop wooley. grumble grumble

I never thought about the Masters I have been seeing being alts...makes sense for a doc or armorsmith to have one. However, this was a straight up player, not an alt. Not a bad guy either.

And the POI badges. I wanna know how someone rode a trusty steed all the POI... let's say the theater on Corellia in specific. Inn't that one on an island...why yes, yes it is. Rusty steed after that swim maybe (ok, just busting butt and kidding around). I hoofed it to most, rode my mount to the ones on Rori... and that sucked.

Anyhow... thought theoriginal postwould be food for thought, pears it was

Good question Alisa. I rode my speeder half the time, ran a couple, and my falump for the rest. I have gotten them all, and while the master explorer badge is befitting a master ranger, any joe or jane can get it. For the record, I have over 100 badges, and thats about 4 months for this character.

I am more prideful, and mark myself the ranger, more from my personal PoI's. My own waypoints of certain locales that offer scenery. Finding escape pods or large temples or a prison does not make me a master ranger, or more over, should not compliment me in seeing I am a good one. But come by Shadowfire, and I can take you places few probably visit, that will leave your jaw on the floor, admiring the wilderness and lay of the land. Heck some of my waypoints include time of day to be there. I know how to get "lost" on a planet, even from other PC's. Now thats a ranger to me

Quests for or post master ranger, bring 'en on! Great stuff as always.

Some you get for just going to the waypoin. Some you need to hang around in that area a bit. Other you have to Fight your way down to the bottom or top to get it.

No, as far as I can remember all location badges are tied to being near certain coordinates.

If you want to be systematic (euphemism for powergaming) about it there is a guide on the Game Guides forum that you can search for.

If you want to do it without the guide, since all but 1 or 2 badges are given at marked POI locations, the only problem might be to find the exact location where the badge is triggered. These tend to be very close, but you may have to walk around a bit.

I disagree with the thought that someone that hasnt been to the POI isnt qualified ot be a master ranger or that in knowledge needs to be learned by the player... The point of an RPG is to give you skills and information that you DONT have with levels... I think planet information should be part of the scout/ranger skill tree, As a ranger when I come to a planet I should know all about the wild life there.... I personaly only get to play an hour here an hour there so my play generaly takes place around the same planet (Rori). It could take half my play time to go to another planet and I would rather do some hunting. How ever as a ranger when I come to a new planet I shouldn't feel like a noob I should be able to pull up inforamation about the planet and the creatures there.

I would agree that the POI Badges do seem rather lame... I mean I went from 1 Badge (accidentally got it from the pool under fort tusken without even knowing it... to 5 just last night alone... not even knowing what I was doing using the ingame map. All it proved was that I could activate a waypoint and ride a swoop for ten minutes over to Vreni Island.

I DO agree that it would be cool to have a little more in the way of "quests" on the way up the Scout and Ranger trees. I really am rather bored with the mission terminals and wishing they had some other "game world enhancing" solutions to gaining XP.
