Fred,
Its a great idea because it turns mastering into more then a grind. And this would even apply to the crafting professions. That they would have to visit a certain dealer and make a certain item on the spot to unlock the master box. It would make the game more involved when your mastering professions. But im definatly liking tieing wayfaring into certain POI's. We know they can do it since your new FS slot is opened after visting 5 certain PoI's

yep - I used to play a lot of text-based muds, and nearly every one I played linked advancement to exploration. One I played (Kingdoms in Sweeden), wouldn't let you advance unless you had so many exploration points. And you got exploration points by interacting with the world -- ie., looking at stuff, exploring areas, etc....
I always thought that it was a really cool system -- I mean the badge system is nice (I have over 80 atm), but some of them are way too easy (none of the exploration badges require even the slightest interaction with the world), and there is tons of stuff out there that you just stumble across that is just as worthy of attention. For example, the debris fields on Yavin or the abandoned mineshaft on corellia, etc.... It would be really nice if part of the wayfaring requirement was to just go around and look at things - maybe read stories associated with them, etc....

Having the "Master" title, simply means that u have been formally taught everything there is to be taught about a given subject. Its like receiving a Ph.D, M.D. or black belt in RL. THey are simply identifiers that you have fulfilled the requirements needed to reach that level. When you finally get those titles that is when the real learning begins. When I first started playing it took me awhile before I left Tatooine.
Right on. More so, since I have the Ph.D. in real life and the honest truth is that it is a more an indicator of perseverence than wisdom, profficiency rather than encylopedic knowledge.
It's been several months for me to get to the point where I am now (Master Swordsman, Ranger 2-2-4-3) and I've learned a fair deal about the places I've been. However, the only planets that I have run about in great detail are Tantooine and Dantooine. I've a fair familiarity with Corellia from the Beta 3 days and the Rebel theme park, but am not at all familiar with the lay of the land on Chilastra with the player cities and the like. I've been spending more time on Talus of late, and have visited Lok,Naboo, and Rori. I have yet to set foot on Endor, Yavin, or Dathomir.
I know how to go looking for creatures for particular resources ( I am forever amazed at people's apparent unwillingness to make good use of the Examine feature ) but I only have familiarity with a few select creatures and have not yet come up with a netowrk of contacts such that I could make my living selling resources. I like the tracking functionality, but more for helping with finding people related to quests (or training; fasted way to get a bead on the city's trainer base imo) than for finding creatures to hunt. Traps are great fun, I use them extensively in the course of creature related combat, no spamming or grinding required to move that tree up.
There is a great deal left to learn and explore in the galaxies for me, which is how I like it. I am using the skills gained as a Ranger to make it easier on myself, and they do make it easier. While I was still ignorant of the efficacy of buffs, using camps to speed up the recouperation process while hunting through a lair was a nice feature for me. Mask scent has been enormously useful over time, and Camoflage has started to have a certain function for me, particularly when I have a TEF from one faction mission and I want to approach the next without getting shot full of holes.. it works for me. I'll probably have Master Ranger before I have been to all the planets.
There are Master Rangers, and there are Rangers. One can be Ranger without all the Ranger skills... they explore, and delight in it, preferably with some of the advantages of the Ranger profession. For my part, I will give up some tracking before I give up all the nice shiny camps, they're fun to hang out in. I'm planning on holding onto the Master Ranger tag for a while when I get it, but I am also planning on eventually releasing some skills in Ranger so I can master Brawler and be a better Swordsman. I'll still be a Ranger in behavior, acting as a wilderness guide and/or doing what I can to help others when I encounter them well outside civilization.

Ok, but let me ask you all this question: When you were going around to the different POIs to get your badges, did you run there or use your speeder?
I ran to all of mine so far (with the exception of the sarlac pit thingie on Tatooine - was trying to avoid getting hit with the disease - found out it didn't help to be on my speeder lol - but even that one I ran to and just hopped on my speeder to get in and out really quick). I haven't even attempted the ones on the harder planets.

I can see how this would bother lot's of people... But I have to admit... (Makes me a little sick to my stomach to admit it here but...) I became a Scout... and will be moving onto Ranger soon... because I wanted to be kind of a loner. Since I have been a loner, I really haven't learned much about A LOT of things.... including badges!
Heck, I'm having a hard time figuring out what weapon I really am going to want to use as a Ranger or where my stats should be.
Could someone please point me to where I can study up on this stuff? Mission terminals are a bit of a bore... and I sincerely WANT to be known as a GREAT Ranger!
Thanks...

Lithianna:
Fear not, flames are rare here on this forum.
I'm not really sure on what it is you specifically are looking for information on, it does seem that you are still finding your way with what feels "right" for your character. Have you looked into the stickies at the top of the forum? Lots of really good Ranger specific information there. In terms of a weapon, you might find Master Rifleman to be a natural and complementary fit for a Ranger.
Best of luck.

Yeah Rifleman seems to be the way to go when you get "up there"... but they just don't seem to work to well on the way since I use traps to help get my xp.
The information I'm looking for is "What are these "Badges" that are mentioned and how do I get involved with them?"
I don't expect anyone to spend the time it takes to explain them to me... just give me an idea of how I can study up on them... so I can better my character through the experience.
Thanks.

Anyhow... thought theoriginal postwould be food for thought, pears it was
Very much so. It makes you think of all the professions realy not just ranger.
Its not realy a questioni have been asked ina while and its quiet refreshing to be presented with something not related to profession rewards (skills).
It realy does make you think not just about ranger but about the possiblity of other professions too.
I feel a dossier coming but i havnt the time atm
maybe some other time. Keep up the good work JB, im sure ill be injured soon or hungover so i can advance some of you ideas
