StarWars.com isnt considered canon. George Lucas defines Star Wars canon as whats in the films, followed by whats in the books, and he is the boss.

Various groups of paramilitary Rangers are featured in the books so they are canon. Although unnamed Rangers do feature in the movies too, the rebel troops who were inserted onto endor in Return of the Jedi where Rangers too.

It's kind of amusing to see the Antarian Rangers being held up as the shining example of the rationale behind this "enhancement" since at the last Fan Fest in the Ranger/Smuggler/Squad Leader workshop somerole-player in the audience introduced himself to the three or four devs on the panel as an Antarian Ranger and they had no idea what that even meant. Not that I expect they would or should know the entire EU inside and out, because they have already shown that continuity is not a factor in their design. But they kind of even mocked the poor guy. I bet he feels vindicated now. I must admit that I have only ever read about them in the WotC Rebellion Era Sourcebook. Sounds cool enough to me. Almost makes me wish I hadn't used my respec togo from Master Ranger to Master Smuggler after the CU. Guess I better start harvesting hide again.
