Oh and if we get this ability i think it would be appropriate if we get a detect traps and disarm traps ability for the tripwires and pits.
OOOOOOOHHHHH.....Neat idea
And most of our traps in this line would be more defensive in nature with maybe a couple that could be thrown at humanoids in combat, it's a given for CH pets that all of our traps to date should effect them.
Imagine a ranger setting up a perimeter of traps around an enemy base, luring the enemy out into the traps and your allies then sending in a strike team into the base to disarm it's defenses and take it over.Endor anyone?(return of the jedi and the shield generator base, the ewoks did a fine job doing this)
So I think we should ask the devs to look into the various suggestions for static traps. Of course a working lure system would have to be in place, and as a rifleman I wouldn't mind that stupid conceal-shot-waking-up-the-target's-buddies issue getting fixed as well. Thrown traps almost have to be crippled with the artificial non-humanoid, non-pet restriction, since they do seem out of place in PvP, given the ranger's hunting focus. But, as a couple of people have noted, rangers should have a paramilitary focus as well. A static trap system would be a good bridge between the hunting and paramilitary aspects of the ranger profession, since it's something that could make us a little more sought-after for PvP.
Keito-
I dont think you really read my posts all the way through.
I said that we shouldnt ask for humanoid traps RIGHT NOW. Theres a top 5 list, taken out of about 30 different issues people want brought up. I said let them fix whats broken and out of balance before we start asking for more toys to play with.
I ALSO said that Bounty Hunters were begging for general tracking of people and the ability to use something similar to traps to debuff humaniods. If you read the post carefully it says that this is a BAD THING. There has to be distinction between BH's and Rangers. Rangers can learn BH skills, and vice versa, but thats no reason to just give them each others skills.
I DO believe ranger traps should affect NPC humanoids and (possibly) opposing players eventually, but NOW is not the time to push the issue. Oh, and as a side note, Bounty hunters are required to have scout skills too.

Why not? over two months have passed, i'm getting a bit bored of being relegated to pve. Too many rangers have surrendered the profession because of this. Maybe you like to go hunt for hidea all day but i want to play star wars and be part of the GCW, rangers have a part to play in this. Bounty hunter has PLENTY to attract more players while rangers lose more a day than ever come here, if you haven't noticed, the number of people posting here are far fewer than in the BH forums, we are few. We are so rare when people see my camps they ooh and ahh forever about them and always stay a few mins just to look at it. I get tells constantly for raining because there are hardly any rangers around, i have the same 4 people coming to me for training all the time, i can say i personally know all the rangers on my server, about 20 of us total.
You have droids for this, all they require is the code to track an individual player, player bounties aren't in, droids however can track npcs, so you have what you need for the moment, if you refuse to take the ranger skills than you can pay a ranger to do this for you, it's still alot cheaper than buying droids. I charge 2-3k plus trip fare per mission when a BH uses my services.
Even Boba fett used mercenaries to help him from time to time, honestly i do not know where you get the idea bounty hunters worked alone. Jango fett had a professional assasin who worked for him exclusively. Boba often worked with dengar, 4lom and zam wessel etc... BHs didn't always work alone, if the mark required more firepower or whatnot they brought help, i'm sorry SOE has forced you to fight alone but that's an issue you need to take up with them. Really i can? Ranger costs 140 skill points to master, i need a weapon skill to augment it or i can't do my rangerly job. I Am going master pistoleer/ranged support specialist/master ranger i'll have 4 points left when done, no healing skills or anything else. SO tell me how i can be a master ranger and a master bounty hunter? I can't. So if you want two of our lines you have to make concessions as i would if i wanted any BH lines.
Ranger traps are defensive in nature, honestly with eyshot do you really think you need debuffs? Let me see, you can blind, dizzy, knockdown already, what are our traps going to do for you that you can't already do?
Yes you do have scout skills then you throw it all away and use droids to track. Rangers use our own wits. We cannot track people if they aren't on our planet either, you can. And if you look at my humanoid trap designs you will see they aren't thrown traps, they are statically placed, soemthing i have to lure you into, you know? i have to get you to follow me right into them, as in use myself for bait. Watch return of the jedi if you are having trouble visualizing this. Particularly Endor with the ewoks at the shield generator base. What they did aren't BH skills, and shouldn't be Bh skills.
Now is the time to ask for PVP skills and humanoid traps, i am not a BH and their interests do not particularly concern me. I am a ranger and what makes MY class fun does. BH is the best working order class in the game, everybody else is either broken or not complete. It's our turn now, the BHs can wait.
I have to say I agree with Keito and Ki_Gu_Lon on this one. In the area of traps we need to have some that are effective on NPC's, Pets, and PC's as well. I am not real big on the PvP side of the game but to spend the time to master this class only to discover that half of the possibilities of the game are not availble to me because my class was basicly designed around PvE would be a bit dissapointing.
I also have to say I agree with the Antarian Rangers anology. I have played Ranger in one incarnation or another for several years in AD&D and incorperateing my knowledege of the SW universe I had anticipated that the Ranger class in SWG would eventualy be closely molded on the concept of the Antarian Rangers. I would imagine giveing us all that military skill as well as the PvE skill would probably make us a bit uber to the Devs but to be honest as i've stated in another post Rangers are perhaps the most independantly minded class in the game along with BH's and of course Jedi by default.
I belive that Rangers should be able to gain speed and accuracy buffs with a specific weapon, probably a carbine, as part of their own skills tree. For what kind of Ranger would never develop any extra skills with a chosen weapon? I also belive that a Ranger should have incorperated somewhere in their skills the bonuses and abilities of perhaps 1/3 of a Master Medic. Probably leaveing out the entire medicine crafting tree. For what Ranger would ever be totaly unable to take care of their own wounds incured while tracking/traping/hunting in the wilds? Would a Ranger ever bring a medic along on a hunting expedition just to make sure he dosent die? I think not.
In any case I agree with the idea of more traps, it looks like it's been covered alot with ideas from the Devs already but most of the improvement suggestions i've seen in other posts here also sound good to me.
Happy Hunting

Heh. I get this alot also. People always say to me. "Wow...this camp is kick ass lookin. What else can Rangers do" And of course sadly right now I have to answer "well....not much really....unless you want to know where every droid in the area is"
Sorry, old joke as I know this mostly dosent happen anymore. But I think I still made the point.
Rangers to me should be primarily more powerfull than other classes because most of what we do is PvE orientated, even if it's for other players, what we're doing for them is still primarily PvE. But I don't want to be totaly shut out of PvP possibilities, and to me right now honestly BH's are FAR more PvP orientated than Rangers will ever be.
"Oh and in case you didn't notice this is top issue number 2, meaning it's next inline from the top issue, numbers 3,4,5 do not get prior consideration here, they come after."
Actually Issue #2 and #3 were tied. I just chose Traps first on a whim. ![]()
Bottom line , we were a rushed class, they missed alot of the skills we should have had to reflect more of what a star wars ranger is, if we have to be mere animal skinner i think i'll pass, but i feel confident they are realizing this mistake and working to make us more desirable and more inline with what Lucas envisioned in his stories.
