Thread: Veghash, I was not impressed

I got ahold of some really nice bio-enhanced vegash last night and did some hunting on Dath with a couple of friends. I don't have the statistics of the food on me, sorry, but I did jot down some harvesting results before and after eating the vegash and it worked out to be a little under a 20% increase in my harvests. Its funny that last night was actually the first time ever where my harvesting ability was significantly better than those I was with (non-ranger scouts). I was pulling in around 40% more than them and that was a pretty good feeling, but of course half of that increase was attributable to the food.

All in all, I'd say the food is marginally worthwhile, kind of like the tracking line in ranger is marginally worthwhile. 20% more harvesting is noticable but not staggering, but I was chomping down the food at a pretty fast rate. I believe it lasted in the 15min range, which for us meant if you eat one before you start fighting, often times it would wear off before all the beasts were dead and you were done harvesting that wave, which is not good.

Can anybody confirm thatveghash with a modifier greater than 25 makes any difference?

From my understanding, stat modification on chef foodis capped as is the case with bio-enhanced clothes. That it actually tells you in your skill sheet that you may have more than the cap is not relevant as it is essentially ignored (and in actual fact considered a bug).

Here's an old indian trick I've developed since the Chef/BE fight over schematics.

Whenever I chance an oppurtunity to sell a decent stack of meat to a BE, I get a Nutrition Schematic, high end high run, based on another stack.

Then go find my favorite chef. Sell them the stack of meat with schematic. They'll usually jump on it, as even with a price increase for the schematic, it's cheaper than buying pre-made additives. Then scale it back a bit in exchange for a few crates of BE-Whatever-Your-Heart-Desires. You end up with more money for the same pile of resources, and free food to boot.

Just because a guy runs around in the woods doesn't mean he can't be a slick businessman.

Do you think the non-BE enhanced stuff I described above would be used? I am currently in the process of preparing the subcomponent for it to run 10 crates of it for testing. FarStar Rangers might thus give it a try tomorrow

Lets try some numbers. Let's assume you are using some pretty nicebio-enhanced vegash that increases hunting by 15%. Let's assume that you are hunting mid-level creatures and getting 500u meat from a lair. You are soloing and because you are a ranger your combat skills suck, lol, so it takes you 20min to clear a lair. Let's also assume the meat you are getting is worth 20cpu. So that's75 x 20 = 1.5k credits extra you would make for each lair witha very strong vegash. You'd need to eat 2 such vegash per lair at that rate, so the potential benefit would be like 750cr/dose. That's not bad, if the stacks have say 4, that's 100 doses in a crate. So to be of any value to a ranger the crate would have to be priced << 75k

Just FYI, there is no cap on chef foods that I am aware of.

Why does it take more than one dose for this lair? Kill the stuff, eat, then harvest. Does this not work?

Also, you can't calculate your numbers on a per lair basis. The reason is this: 69.1 is 69 harvest. 75.8 is 75 harvest. It truncates all decimals. There is no rounding. So if your bonus leaves a decimal you lose it from every creature. This is about 10 units per lair on small mission lair, and even more for a big one.

And if I just read that above post right, I think I need to pay less than 300 credits per dose of BE enhanced veghash in order to come out ahead. Is that right? If so, that'll never happen.
