Thread: Do The Devs Read This Board?

I am sorry for my tone on this thead. I am as frustated as you guys are (maybe more), but I can see how the system works, or doesn't for that matter. To give a little insight into how the devs work, let me explain a few things. I would first like to point out that the devs rarely, notnever, but rarely, post in fourms that are not being worked on at the time. If you see an instance where this is not true, please direct me towards that therad and I will check it out.

Now, for the corr forums. The devs rarely post over there. If we get a respsonse, it is usally a non-answer. Trust me, there is plenty of frustration in the Corr forum to show that all the Corrs are indeed frustrated. I will tell you that if I get a response, it wil be posted here as soon as I get permission. I have gotten nothing to post here in a LONG time. The intention of the Dev, seems to be to haveas manyof our issues addressed (not really fixed, but addressed) via the 19 questions that can be.

I assure you that the devs know we exist, and I (and Delta) are making our issues knows.

Hang in there guys...we WILL get attention someday.

Tell you what calc I wouldn't want your job. On a bad day you might be catching flak from both sides. SWG still needs a lot of work but htere's something I think everyone who plays it needs to not lose sight of. This is the only type of game where you, as a player, can have interaction of any sort with the creators and have things changed. It's a slow and often painful process, but any other type of game you play it how you bought it or you play a different game.

Yes ranger and a lot of other things need to be fixed. It will take time though. IMO we just need to keep up steady pressure on the devs and keep our posts to them constructive. But that's just my opinion I could be completely off the mark. I sure do hope they fix everything soon.

By the way, which one of you looted my punchbowl?

Dev response: Hi guys, we know you exist and you've all been having some really great ideas. After Jedi/CB/JTL/GCW/Player cities/BH/SL/Smuggler and the 3rd and 4th junk dealer revamp we might sqeeze you in for 1 or 2 top issues.

I'veaccepted the current form of Ranger will be the way Ranger is into 2005, don't like it but it saves me a lot of frustration. Any change that happens before that is a bonus. I can have fun with the current skillset of ranger and don't want to drop it. But I do intend to open my FS slot after p10 to get a 2nd char on eclipse for a fun diversion and am hoping that JTL can carry me until the revamp.

That's sad calc about the coor forums. I alwasy imagined them full of red names. Cause it and the coor program started when the red names stopped appearing in the normal forums so much. I thought the idea was to "channel" the communications between players and devs. Is the coor forum even useful, or is it just like the rest of them, where the coor all complain and get annoyed and frustrated?

I think that I gave a fair estimation of the Corr forums. Don't get me wrong, a lot of good gets done there and they are very necessary! I didn't mention that we do a lot of corresponding via regular e-mail, so the lines are open, but they do seem to be a little lopsided right now (we are giving more than we hear back about). I honestly think that JTL is sucking up a lot of resources right now (last month there seemed to bean increase in Dev activity all over these forums, but it has died down again).

Thanks for showing us your side of things Calc, correspondent is like a middle management sort of deal where your higher ups and those below you both want results. We still need to fight the good fight, but be more vocal while still being polite. I dropped the trapping line last night, and man was that hard.

Ok,

some of the facts are: I do remember the last time a dev posted in the Ranger forums, it was a while ago, but still.. i do remember it. Also, it had nothing substantial in it. Why? because there is nothing substantial in the works for ranger.

do we deserve a revamp? yes
will we get it? yes
when? who knows

In my personal opinion, just because a dev is busily working on JTL, Combat Balance, Jedi, Smuggler, SL, should he drop what he or she is doing, post on our forums without anything good to say? Or, would you prefer a ranger revamp in August, and Space Expansion delayed a month or two... needless to say that that the rushed ranger revamp would most likely be poorly planned and executed.

How would you react if TH posted on the Ranger forums saying exactly the same thing he has been saying for a while (nothing specific towards ranger)

If you look to see where he has posted, you will notice the thrust of where the game is heading.

I for one dont have a myopic view and think that rangers should be first, or last...I would rather have a completed and well thought out JTL and CB than a half-assed attempt because the devs were splitting their time posting nothing substantive on the forums.

Let the devs do their jobs, let the correspondants do their jobs, and in the meantime... use ranger to the best of your ability no matter how much of it you have.

While I understand why Calc is catching the flak because of our frustration, I fully support him, trust him and will back him up 100% Lets not take our frustrations out on one of our own, just because he is visible, accessible and our main link to the devs.

his job is hard enough without us making it more stressful.

One last thing, when Calc talk about substance, we do have that in our ideas and suggestions, when the time comes for the revamp, those ideas will be heard.. there can be no inherent substance without a foundation to place the ideas on... the foundation is the decision to revamp ranger... then we collect our ideas, form them up submit them and when that time comes, the community will be in majority agreement and thats less work we have to do then, and Ranger will be more of a community effort than 3 or 4 devs brainstorming as to what would be cool.

Ranger, i belive, will soon be a profession of our creation, in collaboration with Calc and the devs.

/rant off.

I thought we established that they DO read these boards! The problem is that they don't post. You want them to post, but you don't want a fluff answer. If they don't have anything other than fluff to post, then why do we want them to post? "We know you have issues' is the fluffy response we can possibly get. I know they know of our problems...I make them aware of those problems myself! The fact of the matter is, we aren't Star Wars Icons. We don't sell the game, so we don't have a high priority (it sucks but it is a fact of life, people). The Devsvery. very rarelypost in any other Profession forums (minus Greenmarine with the Smuggler revamp) so why should we be any different?

Well I don't believe what I don't see. There is a post just today from JustG in BH responding to the devs not posting in there for one lousy day, and just saying "I always troll". Greenmarine has not been in here for a long time, admited by himself.

Actually, Calc, neither is chef, and they got a huge revamp. The others, DE, Smuggler, and even eewwww, Entertainer, are StarWars icons. But from the orginal post, the devs have not posted in here since Q3PO posted our Coor Feedback. So going off of that, we are still waiting on those changes he stated in that. You know, the ones he actually commited to, and didn't just say we will try, or would like to do. That post was in Aug, that's ummmmmmm A YEAR ago.

So, based on what you said and devs, if you make a huge stink stand up, are completely impatient, don't care about any profession but your own, rant and flame the devs into oblivian, we get a responce? I point your attention to the BH forums starting Monday.

So BH get nerfed in major parts of their professions do to other prof updates. 1. jedi revamp makes BH nearly useless against new jedi, jedi missions got wacked, and the weapon delay hinders their specific weapon specials. 2. a few minor other prof or game changes, made noticable changes for BH. 3. Jedi missions don't work right or at all for a while after implementation. The devs constantly work on it, tweek it, talk with BH for a few months trying to get it fixed for them. They **edit** and whine and yell and actually name call and flame the devs, what the devs said they will NEVER respond to.

Now, a parallel of that above we look at ranger.1. camps got nerfed big time by not being needed forpets/droids anymore. You don't need them to heal wounds with med bots, and their repel never really worked right. So they are Utterly useless other then looks. 2. One of thetwo traps(which is already a nerf) we have is discovered to be useless because it gives dizzy that we are told has NEVER worked on animals. 3. Harvesting droids cut into the one thing ranger had an advantage for,the harvesting bonus. Stack that on top of non rangers can spend more on combat and harvest more in time then us. 4. /areatrack was implemented along with /conceal and we found bugs with them, but have yet to even hear a reponce back to acknowledge it, let alone get dev feedback. We stay reasonably calm, quite and discuss ideas and problems with ourselves, attempting to get the devs attention. We don't go around flaming the devs, we tend to think of the "game" picture and otherprofessions. AND WE GET NOTHING FOR A YEAR!!!

Don't get me wrong, they did get the big pooch screw lately and I even posted in there to help them out. But the point is, devs do post in prof forums, have done rather often and really really frequently. And no, the 19 Answers do not count, for those are not IN the prof forum, and are expected.

I'm understanding where you are coming from Calc on the devs point of view. Hell all the attention for the bloody jedi is proof enough where the devs loyalties lie. But that doesn't cut it with me. I'm one of those, "dont discriminate then tell me not to" kinds of guys. We all pay for the game, we all play the game, we all bring people into the game to pay and play. A lot of us contribute to the game, and the community as a character/player and the devs. As lame as it might sound, they need to play fair. There is nothing in the EULA that says certain areas, professions in the game take presidence over others.

So take that comparison to TH.

I think I am most upset about the Jedi Revamp.

I think that Waaaaay too much time is being put into that.

Consider this: when was the first Jedi announced? How many months went by until that first person had to wait for a revamp? Now compare that amount of time to all the Rangers, who've been waiting since August (when they got PART of what they were promised) to get another revamp. That one person, the first Jedi has had to wait less time than our entire proffession.

I'm not saying Jedi didn't need a revamp. I'm glad their changing the requirements...but how about a longer-term approach to it. TWO publishes for a proffession whose oldest community member hasn't had to wait as long for arevamp as myself?!? Absolutely redic, in my opinion. They could have done this so much smarter...release it in little batches with each other proffessions' publish. I.E. change Jedi a bit more with every publish until they have them working right...then change the way you get Jedi in the first Jedi-only publish.

Yes, I understand Jedi is the new end-all beat-all of the universe and there will be more Jedi than any other proffession ( I know people who, when the requirements change, are only going to have Jedi...one light, one dark...but at least delay that. Don't make a good game go bad because people are unhappy that they can't be Jedi. The more you copitulate to the short bus crowd, the worse your game gets...people who ride the short bus will jump MMORPG's as fast as they can to become ub3r in the Matrix online or whatever the hell the next ub3r fest is.

They'll be left with only the vets...who will be so disgusted with the way the game changed for the "power" player that they'll leave too...goodbye to a good game.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.
