This is a great change.

I made the grind in survival to get master ranger before the change, nobody should have to go through what I went through to max this line. It is simply ridiculous and needed to be changed.

Congratulations Novice Rangers.

The only adavantage I see in camping close to a city is to get a more secure place than in wild area .... that is why I opened the xp debate :

Why buid a camp 400m far from a city, when u can have better heal in a medical center that u can reach in 1 minute (burstrun) ...

However, I noticed some place u have to go more than 3000m far from a city to build a camp, without knowing where is the no-build zone limit ...

I think, exluding the xp debate, that the main drawback is not the problem of no-buid zone, but the fact that we are unable to see where are the build zone (imagine the gain to have the no-build zone viewable on the map )

It's about time. Now if they only fixed the repel agro thing. I was camping in my HQ Camp and eatting dinner when a tusk cat lair spawned right next to me with 5 cats. My action was really low due to sampling so i died pretty quickly.

Until that's fixed, I'll be setting up camp closer to the cities.

I like the idea of building camps close to town. But i understand the original poster's concerns about the possibility of "squatter towns" and how people will get more xp faster.

I think the positive outweighs the negatives here. First off, beginner scouts mostly hunt within 1km of town. I know I did. Those mobs out there are scary. Second, camping xp is a HUGE grind right now.

Overall, I would like to make it so the 1000m line was reduced to 400-500. That is still pretty far to be considered outside of town.

Daisia,

LOL. That is what you deserve for AFK macro sampling and AFK camping..... ROFL!

You could have rephrased it alittle better. Like "eating dinner" to "watching porn" and "low action cause afk sampling" by "too much afraid to touch the mouse cause your hand all ****". So at the end you have this:

"I was watching porn in my Hightech camp and this lair spawns near me and since my hands are busy, I get gank good. So, now I only watch porn in a camp closed to city until they fix this. It's totally suxor".

arent there notes in the upcoming patch about camps accruing xp faster anyway? why dont you post how you hate that as well?

i made master ranger, got the last 20k by abusing a poor macro sampler i found, go figure.

You can't drop a camp next to the Coronet Starport. The city limits d*mn near extends out to the river. You can get within eyeball of Tyrena's starport however and is a choke-point for "mindless mission runners". I have started making additional exp from passers by resting in camp. The healed wounds help and I found will add ontop of the maxed exp (was this a stealth patch?).

I don't mind the fix. Stop thinking in the EQ ranger box

I saw an interesting effect last night. I dropped a camp within 20m or so to a group of "yellow dots". They moved away from the camp and I saw a 64m hole on the radar in all directions. This is the first time I have EVER seen this effect... I hope that was not an odd random coincidence. The yellow dots were all around me in a somewhat sparce density. Dropping the camp caused them all too IMMEDIATELY move away from camp and in 15 seconds not a single one was closer then 60m. Can anyone verify this? I usedthe HQ camp, notthe field base.

Let people camp wherever they want - just don't let them gain survival XP within I klick of the city.

Devs, usually I refrain from commenting but this should be a really easy fix. In effect you are just moving 1 if statement.

Instead of checking if the player is less than 1 klick from the city when the camp is built, check if it is within 1 klick when shutting the camp down and incrementing the survival XP

Now let me anticipate the player response, we'll have squatter cities, our streets will be cluttered up with camps! Use the tools the game gives us. I suggest if you see a camp set upin an inappropriate place you do the following:

1 Target the camp

2. execute (numerous times) a macro like:

/point; /laugh; /shout LOOK AT THE NEWBIE!!!!!!; /point; /laugh;

Well devs can we expect this change next week?

Well Zkull I am with you bro. I cant understand why any Rangers would even want to be near the city. Unless they were scared to go out in the wilderness or something. The only time I go near the city is to meet up with my guild or grab some missions. You will hardly ever see me near a city.

Oh how I wish you had done your scout survival grind near Dearic, Talus. I think you would understand the reason the devs did this (although, I would have been happy if they had just reduced the no-build zone around Dearic to 1000 meters like it should have been). Talus isn't like Tatooine. If you see a red dot on your radar, you have reason to worry. The aggro stuff on Talus isn't low level stuff like Kreetles. Having to run out of town 3K+ meters just to find a good camping spot was a dangerous endeavor for a fledgling scout with minimal combat abilites.

They still need to fix the no-build zone there, though, for anyone wanting to place a harvester or power generator.

What's wrong with the outskirts of town looking like a ghetto anyway? Personally (and I am no ranger), I would love it if rangers were able to set up a small field base right outside town and then leave it there permanently so that others could come and use it. Makes it seem like there are nomad's/farmers etc hanging around town. (this of course Is my opinion.)

Tatooine in particular would look similar to the Middle east, where ragged camp villages are commonplace.
