Thread: An idea, what do you think?

I'll be honest.I dont like it.

1. It doesnt fit in my idea of the "ranger" class, I am not a high tech travel agent.

2. It seems like it will be too powerful up until we get mounts etc.. then it wont be worth the money.

3. Its much less important than fixing the things brokenin the camp already.

4. If implemented it would HAVE to be master level ranger skill. Its way too easy to macro surv exp.

5. And most importantly, I just don't like it. Seems more likely the job of an upcoming pilot profession perhaps. I dont want to be bothered by 500 tells every few minutes by people wanting lifts.

Just my 2 cents, I do love that people are actively trying to think of new ideas though.

I like this idea, but it should only be available at Master Ranger.

That's a HUGE YEA! That would be completely awesome. Yes I agree ti should be tough to make and require factory components though.

If implemented what's the ETA? 12 months? hehe

I'd prefer to see modular camps first, but a good idea nonetheless.

I agree with the people saying this will be worthless once mounts and vehicles are putinto the game. Everyone will already have a faster mode of travel. In fact, the Ranger terrain negotiation skill won't be worth much if all we have to do is hop into a vehicle to travel quickly.

I'll tell you this for as long as it takes to get the exp to reach Frontiering 4 we should be more rewarded in our camps with bonuses, one like you stated. I'm at Frontiering 3 right now and it's gonna be a long haul to get to Frontiering 4 I sure hope this High tech Camp is worth it, would be nice if it had turrents that were automated or that you could use to attack creatures or opposing faction players that would be sweet but I know that won't be an option.

Seems like our class most people don't want and I would like to see more rewards for us dedicated Rangers.

Sounds like a little too much if you ask me. If I were to assign any kind of transport ability to ranger camps I'd give them more of an evac. camp. Some stuff to build smoke flares and have to pay some credits to hire a ship/pilot. When you 'build' the camp some smoke flares go down (hell let ranges pick the smoke color if you want to get fancy) and 60 seconds after that everyone in the camp is transported to the nearist space port.

Really good idea But, by the time they can develope it we will have speeder and such so. So itwould not be as useful then as it would be now.

A very good and well thought out idea. Have it granted to Master Rangers and maybe make it require a special crafting tool that maybe only a master architect could build that also requires great resources or time to craft. Make the special crafting tool only have a certain number of uses before it becoms broken/unusable, say maybe 10 or 20 uses. Have the quality of the camp made from the special crafting tool decide the probability of the shuttle showing up. This uber camp might also have a small turret that provides extra security and gives the ranger some kind of marksman xp since turrets are a commando weapon.

Yes, excellent idea.

The only thing I would add, make it give exp per the number of people that used the shuttle service.

The only problem I see is there are no shuttle ports on Lok, so on a planet like this one, a star shuttle would be the only thing available to pick up players. I wouldn't mind seeing a small shuttle port put in to run out to the Ranger camp, but it would have to be added.

I wonder also if the Ranger could make some $$ from this? It would be a good idea, then he could use the $$ to get the factory parts needed to produce a camp of this size!

Again, EXCELLENT idea!

I love the start of this concept.

However it should only be implemented at Master Ranger, not in the camping tree. and the proposed shuttle component/module should ONLY be one way. As the Ranger, at the master level, will not need camp exp the camp should poof when the last shuttle with the ranger who made the camp "zones". This puts the Ranger as pointman, and the last man out giving us, the Rangers, the option to remain in the field or come in for critical supplies, ie: Strippers, Booze and Whores. er, wrong game. My bad. Dancers, Entertainers and what ever else we can't harvest, out on our own.

Further, it should require modules as suggested by Proxus571 (http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=ranger&message.id=2705). But I believe that the modules used to improve our High Tech Field Base Kit should be crafted in the field. It might encourage Architects, Doctors, Entertainers and others into the field if the module had a quick expiration time, like an hour tops for the modules. EXAMPLE: the Ranger would pitch the camp, the doctor would then access the terminal in that camp and place his module which would expire either when the timer runs out, letting another doctor place his module, or when the Ranger who made the camp in the first place disbands that camp.

ps. I only read Page 1 of this post, so if someone esle posted an idea close to the above one. I apologize.

I like this only to the point that it should be evac only. Not a two way shuttle. I have been on many hunting missions where, when the hunt was over, everyone either logged off or trudged back to town separately. Giving the ranger the ability to erect an extraction point is quite valuable. However I see no need for this to be related to the HTFB. Why does it have to be any sort of camp at all? If its only main purpose is to send everyone back to town after a hunt (where they can get healed, etc anyway) then why include the other aspects of a camp? Make it a simple outgoing shuttle port which will be active for a short period of time. Heck, use the same "camp" that you see for the mob shuttle ports in the wild.

this ability we are pitching should be RANGER only. not someone who spends a few points in the ranger profession, but someone who makes a commitment to being a ranger. At least IMHO.
