Thread: JBs latest rant, enough is enough

Yea, I realised that sounded bad around the time I hit the submit buttion, but decided not to search for the edit button. =/ And don't ask me why, but I picked up squad leader today. I also believe Im the only person to actually use /dragincapicitatedplayer while in combat....against rancors. I think Im on a subconscious quest to become the ultimate support player. I'm not saying that the dev's should focus on us for a publish, or completely revamp the class, but they could change a number somewhere. Mix it up a bit so we at least know we're being acknowledged. I've gotten to the point to where I make stuff up in my head so that I think the dev's have changed us in some way. "Wha? My traps are hitting less! Stealth nerf!" Or "Hey! I found some rancors with /areatrack, they must've made that work better!"

That's great and all, but that mature, older kid at the shelter didn't pay $50 to get in, and then $15 for rent to stay, did he? Did he get 31 other choices of places to go that were equally as fulfilling, or in some cases even better? I know exactly what you mean, but being patient is costing me money. The sooner the changes are made, the sooner my experience with SWG is worth the money Im paying.

Gang - this is the kind of sentiment that needs to be parked at the door. (No offense brandedglacier).

I have three accounts. So I'm paying $45 a month to play thie game. That also means I've spent $175 bucks to purchase copies (1 SE, 2 regular).

Does this entitle the Scouts to greater attention from the Devs?Does it entitle me to better service?

No.

There are many professions in the game that need content. Squad Leaders, Image Designers, etc. No matter what state we are in now, we HAVE had attention. Camo, areatrack, etc. were not in the game when it began. IDs, SLs, Chefs, and those other professions have had NO ATTENTION at all. So they deserve some.

The Devs priorities are based on wide view of the game - not merely on professions, but on everything. They know what is possible and is impossible, they know the vision they have for where the game is going, and they know which professions and groups out there need the most attention. While second-guessing those in authority is a national pastime in America and other places, all it generally does is get you frustrated and upset.

I'm sorry - we have all been very patient, I know. But right now there are other issues that have greater priority than us. That's not my opinion. It's fact. So we need to keep waiting.

I can't express it any clearer than that.

It sucks,I know. Trust me, I know.

All I really want for now is a little bone thrown my way, and some hide and meat whilst I'm at it. In other words give me multiple resource harvest and a bigger amount now, I refuse to believe that is that hard to do immediatly.

Scounts can gobble up some of that grub, the name of which I cant remember beginning with V, and increase their harvest to Ranger levels, considering the additional skill points they have available allowing for greatercombat skills to increase their kill rate all in all they would be a more effecient harvestor as things stand now.

I've been "attempting" to obtain insect meat on Rori for the last few nights, CM's are screaming for it. The only real critters dropping it are Mites, have you ever finished one of their lairs (!!!!!!) the swines pile out in silly numbers, I've died more than a few times by their hands now. When I do kill em they drop tiny amounts of meat. Add to that the fact that Rori isnt exactly swarming with other players causing spawns so/area track gives me nothing, I have to blast about on my bike to get my prey.

So much for the untimate creature hunter.

Crazy situation.

Three words: AoE (Area of effect). I'm a pro at those lairs. I'm even more disadvantaged as I have to watch very carefully when the boss spawn starts and tab-spam quickly. I do agree that times like that would be greatly enhanced if we had more defenses against critters... like a true pro at hunting.

To the original subject...
I agree that there is a problem here. I didn't think is was even possible to nerf us, but they did. However, we have a rep of civility that I would rather not trash by acting immature and throwing an e-tantrum. We should ask for a fix to harvesting, especially the itty-bitty harvest problem (min harvest increaseor cap?). I think a harvest all or single option could be added easier then a harvest one, 2 or 3. But the fundimental problem, Ranger definition, needs to be addressed eventually. I'm not so sure that this needs to be address right this minute.

I think we should focus on 2 bits right now: more and/or extended harvest, what are we getting for the nerf to camps.

No more weekends off for me...oye! Ok, we can make points we want about why it is good to complain vs. why it is bad to complain. The fact of the matter is, what Ranger's want (IMO) is an acknowledgement of existance. We know we aren't a top priority. We would like to know if we are a medium or lower priority tho. The ID revamp is new to me, but if there is any truth to this, I must how that even cam to be. Long story short, a simple post from TH about our priority (will we see love prior to the SE) will quell the masses (for a while at least).

We pay $15 dollars a month to beta test a game. oh boy if I wait just a few months more maybe they'll work on things that have been promising Since AUGUST!! ...

This completely sums up everything that's wrong with SWG. They threw an unfinished product out the door, and we are fools for paying for it. I played as Commando (broken), Smuggler (no content, no smuggling), and now as 3-4-4-4 Ranger that only gets 50% more harvested units than a Novice Scout......NOVICE SCOUT!!!

Granted Blizzard may take 6months-1 year longer than expected to finally publish a product, but at least it's 95% complete, and not in Beta. (lets remember how long it took us to get vehicles....)

Honestly, I can't figure out why i'm still a SWG subscriber....it's not nearly as fun now that I realize i'm playing for the game's potential, rather than it's actual content.

To start off, I'm not a master ranger. My original goal was master rifleman / master ranger and i was close once at 4-2-4-4 but dropped camps and traps for some CH so I could hunt bigger things. So now I'm at 4-0-4-0 with enough xp to get master pretty quick. I been goin through the boards and have seen quite a few really good ideas bounced around, and have been patient from the beginning when the devs said we were gonna get hunting blinds. I waited 6 months and not a peep on that. And reading lately about how we have gotten attention with camo and /areatrack, I decided to search the forum for dev posts. I could only think of three to search for: Thunderheart, Holocron, and Q-3PO so if you know of others, feel free to search this forum for their posts. Here is what I found:

After reading Holoron's thread dated 8-20-03 I felt my heart sink. it reminded me how long it has been since we have been looked at profession-wise.

Precisely. It was at that time that we were promised /track, new traps and camps and other things that have yet to come to fruition. I understand Greenmarine was our specific Dev, and he was pulled to be on the Player Cities, but did they just flat out forget we existed? We're closing in on a year here fellow Rangers.

I can only hope that we are on their radar.

after seeing the amount the devs have posted here, I am once again disheartened but nevertheless patient.

Well they said all those supposed changes would be going in around August right?

So they didn't necessarily lie. They just didn't say what YEAR.

I just went through thelist of upcoming features, changes and revamps to the game. You can find it under 'Gary Gattis's State Of The Game' letter. It shows a lot of stuff coming up, revamps for image designers, Smuggler (publish 9), and squad leaders (publish 10). Lots of stuff, all the way up to publish 11.

No signs of anything about rangers, of course.

Well, there's always next year I guess.
