Pros:
- Prey drops dead right in front of you, no need to run to a corpse
- Impressive AOE attacks, powerful and good looking
- High-end Lootweapons (damage, speed, dots) avaliable in much bigger amounts than for any other profession
- *very* decent damageoutput with this weapons, nowadays I'm killing things even faster than I used to do as Rifleman
- Polearm-related SEA's (speed, accuracy etc) are among the cheapest combat-related sea's out there
- Killing with style
- Best looking but also most useless weapon made from a loot schematic (NS Energy Lance, the only melee weapon doing energy damage which at first looks nice, however the stats are so bad that it hardly makes sense to use it
- Being among the rarest of the rare, there are two Master Ranger/Master Pikeman on eclipse as far as I know
Cons:
- Insane HAM cost on specials, be buffed or forget it
- Pikeman compared to other melee professions has to take the most damage, block just doesn't help as much as dodge or counterattack, did I mention you should be buffed in most situations?
- Crafted weapons are very, very sub-par, no enhancements with lootcomponents possible, looted pikes tend to get quite ugly expensive if you do not loot them yourself
- 18 extra speed needed to hit the speedcap (compared to the measily 8 a rifleman needs this is quite annoying)
- Expensive on armor: as Pikeman takes the most damage in creature PvE among all combatclasses (ranged if played right doesn't take any damage, so taking most damage among the meleeprofessions also means taking most damage among all combat professions) a pikemans armor naturally also decays faster

you stange folks with Master Ranger and Master Squad Leader,
NEMO! get your strange ass here and post hehe
Calc did i set it out rightin my last post or did you have another set up in mind?
Sorry it took me so long but I've been a bit busy:
Master Ranger/Master Squad Leader:
Pros:
+30 group ranged and melee defense that goes over the cap
+60 group terrain negotiation convinces people to walk on occasion
+60 group burst run efficiency lets you burst run without any HAM cost to get away when you need to
Dizzy/stun area cure (everyone in your group)
Rally increases the chance to hit and dodge/counterattack/block (useful for tanks and commandos)
BoostMorale lets you spread out the wounds evenly between the party members (great for a CM using mind heals and amazing with a TKA or 2 to meditate the wounds away)
Retreat lets you give burst run to everyone in your party as much as you want
Not trying to fight lets you concentrate on leading
Not having combat abilities makes your traps a much more useful contribution
Ahigh tech field base provide a nice rally point that is easily visible from far away
System messages are fun to play with
Novice Squad Leader is needed to take down player faction bases
Double Mandalorian cert
Cons:
Extremely high HAM costs (as an example, retreat uses up about half of my mind and action with maxed bothan secondaries) [this is not usually a problem for me but a lot of other squad leaders play buffed so that they can use macros to keep the skill effects going without needing to concentrate on them, i.e. spam them]
HAM costs increase as the group size increases
Very little solo ability (I personally have CH 0/0/0/3 to go with this, letting me have a CL 19 pet, a CL 19 droid, and a faction pet out so I can do decently well but it is very limited)
You have to be grouped all the time and you have to be leading the group (none of the skills work ungrouped). This is not as big a problem now that they have removed the harvesting penalty from pets.
Rally prevents you from sitting, meditating, harvesting, rezing, etc
Edit: Retreat does not give the Squad Leader burstrun, only the rest of the group
Summary: Master Ranger/Master Squad Leader is almost entirely a support setup. Alone it is difficult to do much but you make a huge difference to a group. Tracking helps you find targets, conceal helps you keep the initiative, /sysmessage helps you communicate, Squad Leader skills help your group win the fight, terrain negotiation keeps everyone together, and more. Defenses are a bit lacking but you should be able to survive (+10 ranged/melee defense from ranger, +30 from SL [only when grouped], and a few extra from the marksman prereq). You will not be uber but you really make a difference on a hunt.
I'm sure I've forgotten stuff here but I hope it helps.
