My complaint isn't about PvP. We suck at it..that's just what we do. We chose this profession to kill animals, and kill them better and more efficiently than any other class. This just ain't happenin'. I was once able to take a pack of bolle bols on Naboo without being touched. I dueled a Rancor and leveled it (took me a while). Now, I shoot a nuna and I miss...a lot. I get very little resources from the animal, and all the metal and polymer I had saved for my camps are worthless to me now, because now I have to spend every second of the game trying to collect organic resources for camps and camo kits. My income from hide and meat sales have dropped to zero. Take it as a complaint, take it as a rant, take it for what it's worth...we went from scout 2.0 to scout 1.1

1) Someone please tell me if I'm wrong, but effectiveness of shooting a weapon is based on one's skill with that weapon, not one's Ranger's skills. I heard they recently nerfed pistols or something (I'm a ranger but I don't get involved with large game... yet... and I haven't seen a detectable (by me) reduction in my effectiveness as a pistoleer).

2) I have yet to build a camo kit even though I've gotten a lot of supplies for making them on the three planets I do most of my hunting (Corellia, Naboo, Rori). Why? Because I think my Mask Scent is working well (Ranger 2/2/2/3), effectively, and I solo a lot. If you find it problematic to collect resources for camo kits, then try to drum up relationships with rangers that are willing to provide the materials to you at fairly low cost (on Valcyn? Look me up!).

3)Despite being solo an awful lot (I'd say 95% of my game time is spent with only the company of my grand wrix), I have developed a number of relationships with vendors and I provide them with my services as a ranger. I've found this not as lucrative prior to the patch, but it is still lucrative none-the-less. Lucrative enough for me for the upkeep of a medium house, a wind harvester, two floral harvesters, a mineral/mining harvester, a chemical harvester, and a factory. I plan on going to another planet tomorrow night and plonking down another harvester to get more materials needed for camo kits for that planet. Side note: these relationships are outside the relationships I've formed within my PA.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think our situation isn't as dire as a number of people declare it is.

Some Very Good views tossed around, yes the ranger is king of the outdoors, with wonderfull traps and fancy tents. Tracking how ever it might be right now is better than what we had before ZERO tracking skills

But all of us had to some how kill the creatures to get to ranger, yet alone master ranger, so 99% of us have some skill points in combat classes.

Bottom Line I notice no differance with our bonuses to hit creatures.

I miss hunting actually getting enough Hide/Bone to make it worth my effort. Found out with fambaa's the hard way, oooh 45 Leather Hides, 1 fambaa 2 caps and 10 min, or 9 chuba's in 30 seconds. Ya I know the "SOE" idea no one should solo a red con but why not its my butt in the cloning center if i die. soon a corpse runs are back in the game I wil be even happier. Or at least use more caution.

Ya I have a purpose I'm a butcher and a skinner, **edit** good at it too. At leastI use to thinkI was.
Happy Hunting

Yes, very true. I am also pistoleer 0-4-3-1 and master ranger. But then again, rangers get creature to hit bonuses. Something happened postpatch and 9 times out of 10 my first shot misses.

We do get to-hit bonuses as Rangers, but I believe they are not as significant as the bonuses we get for Pistoleer. The changes you are seeing are probably a result of a Pistoleer nerf and not a Ranger nerf. I've not seen any difference in my abilities. At 65m, 3 out of 4 first shots are misses, both pre and post patch.

I also have plenty of supplies, but I do things in bulk. I have to hustle to get the sum total of 7k of resources (not counting flora) to make 100 stacks of camo kits. This saves me time, and the frustration of not being ready. With to 50% or so harvest drop, this is a killer.

Ah. You did not specify that you were doing things in bulk and that was what was causing you such frustration to gather the materials. This might sound harsh, but I guess I don't have as much sympathy for you as I did before. I thought you meant you were having problems building any camo kits, not problems building 100 camo kits. 7k in resources is not insigificant and I would expect you to take a long time to gather all of those materials. Yes, the harvest drop is really annoying, but I don't think it kills me. It just means that I won't be raking in the financial rewards as I was pre-patch. I can survive that.

ChunkyMunky wrote:
I also solo (with no Grand Wrix) because I have found that people are more interested in missions than animal harvesting. I have many, many doctors, chefs, tailors, and novice armorsmiths screaming at me because I just can't produce what I once was able to.

Well, most people seem to like missions because there is a large financial reward to them. Understandably so. I like doing hunting/terminal missions. Not only do I get to harvest resources from my kills, I get a nice chunk of change in my bank account (tip: I love the nudfuh missions on Rori! They pay 1.5k a mission and I get lots of xp (trapping, scouting, pistol) from these non-mobbing, slow-moving creatures).

As for your suppliers, oh well. They'll just have to deal with more than just you for their supplies. In a way, I think this is kind of nice. When I can't fill an order, I run through my list of ranger contacts seeing if they can be of assistance. My customer is then happy 'cause they got the materials. Another ranger is happy because they get cred for their materials. I'm happy because I know my customer will continue to come to me because I am a good contact for their needs.

Well folks you talk like this is the best a Ranger will be. I agree everyone wants the new toys when they hit the shelf. I have been Master Ranger for about a month - was about to ditch it until I read the changes. I still may not be totally satisifed, but since I went this long I am going to stick it out and see what the total class revision does.

Please this is not meant as a preach or high ended "I am the better one"post crap. Just another observation from a die hard, I must be a fool, Master Ranger who is saying I've stuck it out so far I want to see what the end brings.

The lure trap to bring out one of the BAF mobs to you and then a trip trap for it & NPC's will be value added services as well (I hope) You gotta try out the hunting blind at least.

If it still turns out to be a dud - then BH sounds good to me.

Glaza, what the hell are you talking about?

* Conceal: Even when I was at wayfaring 2, I rarely got aggroed. Now that I'm at 3, I hardly ever do. I can stand in a pack of red cons and not be bothered. Granted, my character is Bothan, but that's why I picked the friggin race in the first place.
* Burstrun/terrain: I can still outrun almost everything that tries to chase me. It's a dangerous world out there, though, and a few things are bound to catch me from time to time.
* Creature to hit. You're 3-1-1-2 in rifleman. I'm 0-1-0-1. I'm doing just fine, better than fine. I'm deleriously happy with my capabilities when it comes to hunting big dangerous game. Don't know what you are doing wrong, but if I can do it, anyone can.
* Add nothing to a group: Let me say again ... what the hell are you talking about? You can lead a group directly to big game now instead of just wandering around looking for it. You can help conceal the non-scouts from hostiles, even if it's not 100 percent foolproof. You can put up a camp that rivals a med center in regenerative capacities, at least helps repel hostiles and benefits any crafters in your group. When the next set of updates are implemented, you will be able to trap npcs and effectively spawn creatures on demand from the field and go directly to them. You will be able to lure baffing mobs away from their pack, allowing your team to isolate a single aggressive creature to take down. These sound like pretty valuable additions to a group to me, and no bounty hunter or any other character but ranger is going to have enough points to have all of them, as they come from all four lines, some of them well up the scale.
* PvP: We'll eventually have the ability to trap creature pets, which will make us valuable all by itself. But as a ranger, you're never going to own every PvP encounter. Get used to it or pick a different class. This is primiarly PvE class with flourishes that will make it a useful PvP support class, not the other way around.

I don't mean to be harsh here, but be imaginative instead of complaining about how the game is holding you back.Find ways to do what you want to do despite the limitations the skill-point system intentionally places on you. Yes, there are some things we all agree need work, but it's not anywhere near as bad as you make it out to be. Even with crappy traps, warping mobs and the other problems, there are plenty of rangers out there having a blast and doing just fine. I'm one of them.

Now I don't wanna sound harsh but excuse me for expressing some views on how things are in my ranger's world. Current World NOT what the world might be or could be BUT WHAT IT IS NOW.

Glaza,
Get used to 99% of the rangers on this board just telling you to bend over and take it, that things will be better soon, etc... If you actually say anything expressing disappointment you get the "rangers are nice, rangers don't act that way" speech from everyone that is playing in their imaginary world that might get implemented in a couple years. Rangers are the only ones I've met so far that actually seem to welcome nerfs and defend them to the death.

Express away, but you're making it sound like rangers are pariah wandering out there in the woods, begging alms from passing bounty hunters. My point is that it isn't that bad now, in fact it's pretty **edit** good if you ask me, and it's only going to get better. The vast majority of what I mentioned in my response to you exists TODAY, and the rest has already been promised. I'm not talking about what "might" or "could" be, but what IS and what WILL be.

Furthermore, I'm a lower-level ranger and rifleman than you are, and I'm doing just fine today. Conceal works very well for me today. I'm taking down large dangerous mobs on my own today. I'm selling large quantities of hide and bone for decent pay today. I can outrun most of the stuff that chases me today. People like to group with me today. They're envious of my tracking skill today. And I'm having fun today.

Is it at ALL possible that maybe at least some of the problems you are having are due to how you constructed your character and/or how you play?

All I'm saying, man, is look at the limitations the game throws at you as challenges and overcome them with what the game gives you. I was bummed when they nerfed suppression fire. But instead of spending my time complaining, I went out and figured out a new tactic. Now, I'm back in business, no problem, while so many others are too busy whining. My attitude? Go ahead, nerf me. I dare you. I'll beat it clean.

I love threads like this where a "consensus" is formed, or a "fight representing the masses" is pursued. This thread has 10 posters. 275,000 subscribersin SWG...I wonder why they don't pay attention to the boards.

"Rangers are the only ones I've met so far that actually seem to welcome nerfs and defend them to the death."

- Now really. We are players just like everyone else, and want the best for our profession.

- However, many of the elders on this forum gravitated tothis class when it was broken. You can imply from that very fact, that we are more interested in the concept of the Ranger profession, rather than what it can do right now.

- I, being a software developer myself, understand that system development is a long and phased approach.

- So Ilive with the current issues, knowing full well that the developer is listening and will eventually make changes for the better.

- My stance follows what I know about the intentions of the developers, andI find that pushing in the direction of the flow seems to get better results...

-Ride thecurrent and directittowards theright fork, rather than trying toswim upstream.

- Everything will be worked out. And then we'll get mounts/vehicles, and it'll all start over again.

- The developers pay a great deal of attention to us, they just aren't allowed to post without PR consent.

Hehe, yeah I know. I guess I get a little bit tired of people saying just wait, it will get better, just as much as they get tired of everyone complaining.

I am always drawn toward uncommon professions, or uncommon class/race combos (in EQ) - I kinda hate to be the same as everyone else.

Hence the Fencer/Ranger combo hehe.

Anyway, people are just as vehement and sort of whining in their defense of the devs choices, just as people are against them. Everyone can have an opinion (everyone's stinks but your own, I know ).

Good day.
