Thread: Ranger The NEW Cookie Cutter Class
Hey, I have found myself completely in demand since the patch, especially for high-end hunts like Krayts, I've had a group offer to pay me to help them find a Krayt. So what if anybody can train in tracking, anybody can train in anything. If someone trains Tracking 4, well they are a Ranger too then, maybe not as dedicated as others, but nonetheless still a Ranger. I can see why a Bounty Hunter would want tracking as it will save them money on seeker droids, already a Master Bounty Hunter doesn't have many points to spend, they are a master scout so if they spend a few points on Ranger does this make them any different from anybody who doesn't have enough points to master ranger? I don't have enough points to master, but I have been a Ranger since before these changes were even announced.
Well as a Master Ranger and eventually Master Squad Leader I can tell you what gimped is
However I have faith that when all is said and done no one will be able to move a group around faster or safer. What I dont understand is this: less than half the changes they have said will happen for Ranger have gone live and people are griping like it is complete. We still have /track coming. We still have new and better traps coming (please let us have experimentation on traps - it rocks on camo kits). We still have new camps coming - hello? hunting blind! Of course things need to be tweaked a bit still from the go live point. Lets stay civil and well spoken as we have in the past and we will get the things we need.
Point is 2 fold , as a Master Ranger: What do I truely give to a group, what is my reason fore being?
You gather resoruces, you make traps which (will eventually) work for snaring and knocking over people and animals, you have better tracking skill than someone with tracking 4 (eventually) plus you make the best camps. The ranger was never more than a support for other professions as is scout. Once they add the traps and the specific animal tracking skills they mentioned in the report a master gets alot of unique bonuses that these BH/Hunt masters won't.
Chunk,
"I agree, Ranger has become the weakest profession out there."
Yeah, cause those chefs really kick our asses in PvP.
You sound really, really bitter. Maybe you should just give up on Rangering?

I only have one gripe about the Ranger class, and Delta since you are posting here maybe you could comment on it.
I am a master Ranger/CH. I knew when I chose that combo that I would never be able to heal my pets during fights, but I had thought the High Tech Camp would allow for some decent after-battle regen. It doesn't, and my down time is so great that I am dropping my Rangers skills to become the one class that I wanted to play less than any other - healer.
I really wanted to be a Ranger, and I love the new skills, but once the pets get wounded I am done for hours. Medics hate grouping with C
Somehow it cut off my post. I was saying:
I really wanted to be a Ranger, and I love the new skills, but once the pets get wounded I am done for hours. Medics hate grouping with CHs these days because they dont get XP for healing pets anymore. And as a very casual player I have no real viable source of income, so I cannot afford the stim packs at 2k per stack. So I am going to have to become a CH/Medic like so many others.
I guess what I want to see most then, is having our tents prove an after battle, regeneration style, heal to both pets and players.
What do you think Delta? Would this be unfair or game-swaying?
M.
Mauros,
They should be doing that already - the do provide quicker regeneration than sitting and waiting.
You can buy pet stims from BEs now, I believe - that and your HTFB should help heal them up faster.

Chunk,
Yeah, I throw up my Novice Scout when I'm PvPing too.
What edge have you lost? In PvP at least, we're no worse off than before.
I know you're frustrated - we all are. But whining about it isn't going to fix anything. That's why we're doing our best to post ideas and bugs and send stuff in to the Devs so that they'll recognize what's going on.
I'm confident that we'll get an answer from Holo or someone on the stealth nerf issue on Monday.

I'm a ranger and sucked a pair of fetid dingo's kidneys the other evening at PVP with my PA. I died 10 times, took down only one person and spent most of my time running around and healing fellow players (hey! That speed is good for something!).
You know what? I don't care. If I wanted to engage in serious PVP action, I would have focused my energies/time/skills in combat-specific skills (I am heading towards Pistoleer 4/0/0/0). Rangering is a compliment to combat skills specifically in dealing with being out in the wild and dealing with creatures. I think to think of the line as anything else is, in all honesty, incorrect. Look at the description of both Master Scout and Ranger (taken from http://swgcb.yogn.net/swg-cb.php): "A master scout has learned the techniques of surviving in the rough and has gained many insights into the nature of interacting with wildlife." "The Master Ranger is unequalled in outdoor skills. They have travelled to many places and encountered many strange beasts along the way. They are an unrivaled explorer and trap maker."
I came into this profession with the expectations that those definitions are correct. Nowhere do I see emphasis in combat skills. It's all about being anexplorer. Let's take part of the Master Marksman definition to contrast: "A Master Marksman can easily dish out large amounts of damage and has access to a wide variety of ranged weapon certifications."
This game, you give up some things to be good in others. Elite master artisans give up a lot in order to make their crafts and do well in business. Master doctors, combat medics give up a lot in order to heal massive amounts of damage. I've seen some players try to strike a balance so they can be as independent as possible. We rangers, especially master rangers, gave up a lot of skills to be fantastic outdoorsmen. Ihope that the developers stick to that vision.
