I disagree with the person who said that nothing gives rangers the ability to go unbuffed and that hunting rancors unbuffed is done purely for the challenge. I'm a master rifleman, and that profession, when combined wiht ranger allows me to beat almost any creature in the game not just unbuffed, but also unarmored. Rancors? The drop like flies before they even realize where the fire is coming from. I don't wear armor or use buffs becasue I can usually kill things before I'm even noticed. Why wear armor when I never get hit?
You don't even need the Ranger profession to do that just Master Rifleman.

Camo seems to have been fixed, though I haven't read any feedback from those doing Kreetle-Testing(tm). Seems to be working though....very well.
I've had MUCH luck with using camo kits, and have found it as a new way to get Scouting XP; concealing random people and collecting the XP while they drive to their missions. I've confirmed this works off planet as I was in my YWing (back when I wasn't getting errors and whatnot) and was receiving Scouting XP while killing TIE Fighters.

What is cool about being a Ranger? The title alone and the auro of mystery that comes with it. Sure, I can whip traps at critters, throw up camps that are more modern then most peoples living quarters, make a ton of cash selling resources, and crawl really fast but the truth is we are the rarest profession in the game even moreso then Jedi. We often give more then we get, have THE single most besterest community on the forums, and argue like mature people. What other profession will forsake their speeder for their feet and walk thousands of meters to get to their destination?
We're Rangers.

The biggest negative point in being a Ranger is that it is almost impossible to find any reason to drop Ranger
.
But i guess for 99% of the Rangers here this isn't so negative at all

I think the coolest thing about being a Ranger is the knowledge base that comes with playing the profession: knowing which creatures don't like which creatures, where good spawns are usually, planet locations, socialness of creatures and such. It's very cool to be asked that info and know what you're talking about.
Second coolest is our self-reliance. Solo groups? BAH! I just recently figured out what these were all about. I always declined them because they brought my harvest down. Didn't realize they weren't about harvesting at all. Imagine my shock! Oh well...

What an awesome post! I currently have two characters in SWG, both of which I picked Scout as my starting profession. My first char i grinded Scout up to 4242 and the other one (my current one) I got up to 4030. Both chars I coupled with other profs and ultimately ended up either tanking the Scout ones entirely or down to novice because I felt the other profs were more "exciting". Deep down, I always wanted to be a Ranger but wasn't really sure what the real benefits of becoming one were.
Until now.
I just saw the word Ranger in the armorsmith forum and thought, "hey, what is ranger all about anyway", and went to this forum. All the neat stuff you guys mentioned, especially about being more rare than jedi (which i can totally believe) and being able to scurry up a dathomirian mountain faster than a almost-dead-janta-100m-warp makes me wanna seriously consider going Ranger with a new char. I never understood the importance of organic resources really till i became my current char who is a Master Artisan/Swordsman, Armorsmith2104. I started him cause my previous one was strictly combat oriented and honestly, i was getting bored with fighting ALL the time just to become a jedi or Master BH to hunt jedi.
Sorry, about sucking up so much forum space with my gushy story but I just wanted to let you Rangers know that you got one more person appreciating you and your talents.

I've always been drawn to the Ranger profession for that feeling of Self-Sufficiency.
There are few professions in the game that I think are as good at going out alone and working their way through the SWG wildness. With my Ranger skills I know I can get myself into trouble, and I know I can get myself out as well. Throw some traps to slow down something that's chasing me, or hold something that i want to kill. Drop a camp to heal up some wounds. Even go out fishing if I'm in the mood to just relax and goof around. The Ranger profession is one that promotes truly playing the game rather than just grinding your way through it.

well, i'm convinced.....in fact i must share with y'all that i actually played a ranger without being a rnager, kinda funny really. When i first started playing i didn't have any friends except for my pets (i was novice CH) so i would go to a planet pick the POI farthest away from me and run there while stopping at every little thing in my path wether it was a lair a single creature or just something wierd lookin. at the end of maybe 3-4 hours i would get to my destination and throw up a camp whip out my fizz and entertain myself for a little bit before setting another POI and doing it all over again until i was too tired to keep playing or i was getting the "Server is shutting down, log out now you addicted fool!" message. I would end up at the starport again play some more music and head to the next planet. Ranger would really compliment my doing this again especially with the fact i would be able to crawl really fast and instead of a small tent i could put up a camp larger than some peoples houses
now that would be cool, and best part? only i would be there to see it
