Yeah about the camps though calc i was prety disapointed with the scout response and if they are spearheading that front i dont think we have a good chance of a camp overhaul.

What do the Devs see as the primary reason for calling camps in the wild, and what do they think is necessary to make camping a more useful skill in the game?"
That is a great question, especially since the core needs and design of camps has changed so dramatically. We think the best ideas we have to make camps more useful are from the community. One aspect to consider here though is that the scout profession is a novice profession and while some attention will be on making it a fun experience, the core effort will inevitably be placed on elite professions. That doesn’t mean we are going to abandon scouts for sure. As new players come into the game, these novice professions represent their initial game experience so it is important and we want to make it as fulfilling an experience as possible.
Hmm i didnt like this response at all. They said they would make scout fun thats all realy but the main part of the answer was saying elite professions will be looked at first.
A camp revamp will effect both professions alot and for scout to get a camp revamp they need our help as we are the elite or scouts (the main elite) and for us to get em we will need scouts because they have the numbers, we dont.
In other words for any improvement in the camp department we will need to work together and there is no point 'hitching a ride' on the back of the scout push because chances are they wont get anything unless other elite professions push for the same thing.
They only referenced Rangers directly in the question. From then on the more generic term "Elite" profession is used in place of Ranger. Is this relevant? Perhaps.
i had to fight myself pretty hard to not start a new thread for this...

Certs for Mandalorian armor will be: Bounty Hunter, Commando, Ranger and Squad Leader
Kurt "Thunderheart" Stangl Assistant Community Manager
i know it's just speculation to think, but... it seems rangers and squad leaders will be considered pretty heavily soon, as combat professions if we are to rate with the mandolorian warriors...
not that i'm excited about the certs (i'm a wookiee), i'm more excited that they think rangers should be able to wear this armor...
Rangers will get the certs for mandalorian armor? Thats just too damn funny lol, one more thing to tie us to those BH l33t dudes
I cannot wait to get my grubby little hands on one of those suits
Despite the fact of how I feel about Boba and Jango's Movie career.
Boba Fett:
Failed to capture Han Solo, he merely tracked him
Failed to kill Lando, Luke, Leia, Chewie, and Han over the Sarlaac Pit
A Silly little bump pushed him into the Pit of Carcoon
Jango Fett:
Failed to kill Amidala twice
Failed to kill Obi Wan twice
Killed a newb jedi
Got punked by going toe to toe with Mace Windu
Despite what I think about Boba and Jango, I think the armor looks pretty cool
oh, and in the EU, the Fett family rocks, im just poking fun at the movies...
Sorry devs, your credibility check bounced at least six months ago.
Oh, and does the profession need a revamp? Well, three out of four lines are utterly useless, so I'd say the answer is a big "yes".

why?... because, of the way they worded the answer... they may have said nothing more to us than "wait and see," but i think it's obvious they have looked at our proposals very seriously and they actually want to do them... makes it sound likethe coders working on the ranger professionwill feel like they won the lottery, rather than having to do the same tedious stuff to all the other professions in the CB...
i know they didn't tell us a whole lot... and i know i'm being optimistic... but i think a lot of rangers are pretty optimistic themselves...hoping for something better and hanging onto that hope - not the act of a pessimist..
I sort of agree with this -- it shows that the devs have not been ignoring us. I really didn't think that we would get an answer that committed to specific things -- why? because the dev staff has learned the hard way not to promise things until they are more than sure that they can deliver them. For example, contrast Q-3P0's post here (the one that promises us tons of things, none of which we've seen) with the how they handled the last update. They had tons of stuff in the works for the last droid publish, but they didn't let anyone know about them until they were sure they could deliver.
Now, I don't think that rangers will get any serious behind the scenes attention until the correspondant issues publish, but at least now we know this and can work on prioritizing our issues, etc.... (ok, maybe we have prioritized our issues over and over again - oh well).

That was a blow-off answer if I've ever heard one. But don't get me wrong- that's what I was expecting. TH said only a few weeks ago that Rangers are not a priority at this time, so we already knew what the Ranger situation was. I just think he confirmed it again with a few vague staments like "kicking around ideas" and "at some time".
I'm not jazzed about Mandalorian armor either, to be honest. It doesn't seem at all in line with the Outdoorsman ideal promoted by so many Rangers. It seems more like a bone tossed at a neglected (and increasingly grumbly) profession.
Still, there's the combat balance. Hopefully we'll at least see some beefing upof our fighting abilities.
I'm not sure what to think about the "19 Answers" Ranger bit. I read it a couple of times to try to get a bead on it positive or negative but everytime it leaves me sitting on the fence. TH cited the answer as "a little vague" but I don't think it reads as saying anything. I'm not hacked or anything and I'm not going to change my profession or direction I just don't get anything from the answer. Or to beat a dead horse one more time in this paragrapgh, I think I would have been just as enlightened without having read the answer. Maybe I'm missing something.
As to the Mandolorian armor certification...I didn't see that as being granted because of some heavy combat retoolingcoming our way. I think they applied it to those professions, ours included, simply because it fits with Star Wars lore. Boba Fett Ranger/Bounty Hunter, yes? no? I'm not the SW scholar it just seemed logical to me that it be tied to our profession as well.
Maybe we will get a re-tooling for combat, I just don't gleam any info on that from the answer or the Mandolorian certification. Calcs feelings and impressions on what can be done through correspondant issues and that "answer" gives me more of a reason to think changes will be coming than TH's reply or some new in-game equipment.
Just my two cents.

The plan is to improve their combat usefulness in the CB and address other items on the schedule under the “Correspondent Issues” umbrella.
I thought that statement was pretty committal.
Nope. It's as committal as anything that has come to us from the Devs before and none of it has happened.
We got /areatrack but the /track which has been "in the works" has never materialized. The improvements to our traps, camps and everything else has been "in the works" for as long as I remember coming into the forums.
Any statement of "in the works" or "planned" now is as worthless as all the ones that came before.
If you guys think the Ranger response was a little anticlimactic, take a look at what the Scouts got:
"With the removal of the need for camps to call pets many Scouts and Rangers have begun to consider camping unnecessary, as everything they use a camp for (healing, calling pets, vehicles and mounts) is better accomplished through another game feature. What do the Devs see as the primary reason for calling camps in the wild, and what do they think is necessary to make camping a more useful skill in the game?"
It's like he doesn't even know that an "elite class" (that would be us, folks) also has an entire line playing off of the camps which are pretty useless even at a scout level. Oy!

Imagine if every combat profession had a "Ranged Support" tree like marksman that was nothing but a skill point sink =)
Hmm, I took that as meaning that Ranger (and possibly SL camps) would be the nice ones. Like in the Modular Camp proposal that we submitted so long back. Scouts got a bit of use from it but the idea didn't really get nice until you went into SL or Ranger. As for Ranged Support, I find it extremely useful. It's what I use to stay alive instead of medic. No need to heal if you never get hit.

I love all of you guys. You are the most patient, articulate, well-mannered bunch in this or any other forum. You're also nice to a fault. Our reputation as the nice guys of the forums be damned, this is insulting. This is not committal, nor is it a ray of hope. It is a complete and total blow off. Folks he DID NOT answer the question, and SAID he was being vague! Are we supposed to be happy with this? He gave ZERO indication that anything would happen us. He said, yes you exist, and we have confirmed that some of our players our Ranger's. He also said, even though we SPECIFICALLY worded the question to avoid any vague answers, that ours, like all the other problems, "will be fixed in the combat balance"!
Come on folks! The Devs have said repeatedly, as we're all aware, that we are a "support profession". Now the CB is going to cure our ills? This is Thunderheart showing his very admirable politician skills, and saying a lot while saying nothing at all. The question in case I need to remind you, was boiled down to "What are your plans for differentiating us from Scout?" What, in that response, answered that?
Fact: TH is full of crap. Support: His answer compliments Rangers for all the great ideas, and then says we're focused on Just-G's letter and thats that. Did I mention he didn't even answer the question?
Fact: The Dev's are not paying attention to our idea's or requests. Support: Ranger's are one of 4 professions to have the Madalorian Armor Cert. What?! What does that have to do with ANYTHING we've discussed with Calculus, or in any idea thread? Where did this come from? They are laughing at us in that thread. Everyone keeps saying "Ranger? Mandalorian Armor Cert? What? Why?"
Fact: TH knew this response was not going to go over well with us. Support: The term "on the brighter side" was used. Meaning I know I am about to seriously upset the majority of the Ranger community, but I'm going to throw you a bone, and say hey maybe we can squeeze you in after the Space Expansion.
Sorry folks I don't buy it. This is a clear indication that the big money makers, i.e. the power gamers, Jedi, BH, and most any other true combat profession are their priority. Not Ranger's. You folks can try to put a positive spin on this but it stinks, plain and simple. Thunderheart was hired to be the voice of the community, and to be OUR representation to the developers, and he has has failed. Period. End of story. He is now more machine than man, this technological terror that serves no other purpose than to put out fires for the developers, in the form of trying to appease the masses with little glimpses of information. To his credit he has relieved himself and the people that hold his strings of a lot of work, as we know now that any question we ask going forward will be answered with "it will all be fixed in the combat balance" "come to the light....alllll are welcome......" Oh and droids can harvest more than us. Sorry if you don't like the tone of this post. I'll be waiting for the obligatory tongue-lashing from Calc and Delta, but frankly I don't care. What will happen? Nothing. Oh by the way not one dang mention of our camps being totally useless. TH really doesn't have a clue.

I'm not entirely sure if you read all of the answers. As far as they go, ours was probably the best answer given. And, if you look at the Scout question, it does mention camps. As Calc said earlier, some people won't like the answer. I personally was surprised by how much I liked it. I made another thread trying to explain why I was happy with it but I could easily have gone the exact opposite way with most of it. I guess I'm just an optimist.
