Hmmm, I was hoping for a bit more. At least rangers actually got mentioned in a Dev post.

Only because they have to put something down for each profession.

Do we need a revamp? What are we asking for that needs a revamp?

I think we do in terms of a totally new camp system, perhaps the modular camp system, and the ground based traps and pvp traps are prety substantial that would most likely come in the form of a revamp.

Fair enough, but I think that the Scouts are spearheading the camp initiative, and their answer said it is being looked at (paraphrased, of course). I assume when the Scout camping get overhauled, the Ranger camps will too. As for ground based traps...*gulp* I wouldn't hold my breath on those....Once again this is all speculation . Now I sound like a dev!!!

Its not everything i wanted no, its not the ideal answer i would like and yes it is prety disapointing however there are a few key pointers in there that im happy with:

  • We ARE in the combat balance. Possible pvp traps, hunting defenses etc. Prety happy with this.

  • We have the opportunity to be addressed via Corresondant Issues.

  • And lastly, they are kicking around ideas and are greatful of out contribution. Even if it is a lie its promising.

Alot of un answered questions still remain, but all in all atleast we know something, not matter how small is coming to our profession in the form of the combat balance.

Now i got my fingers crossed they dont give us a melee damage multiplyer to 'balance' us in line with the rest of the novice scout crowd.

i gotta say, i'm actually pleased... not satisfied, but pleased... maybejust on theniceside of content...

why?... because, of the way they worded the answer... they may have said nothing more to us than "wait and see," but i think it's obvious they have looked at our proposals very seriously and they actually want to do them... makes it sound likethe coders working on the ranger professionwill feel like they won the lottery, rather than having to do the same tedious stuff to all the other professions in the CB...

i know they didn't tell us a whole lot... and i know i'm being optimistic... but i think a lot of rangers are pretty optimistic themselves...hoping for something better and hanging onto that hope - not the act of a pessimist..

He posted on my "When will we get a Dev Response" after tons of people posted on it and Calc and Brisc, kicked him in the pants. I was hoping that would be the start of the ranger renaissance, but sadly I was mistaken.

For him to post something here even a "vague" answer would be the equivalent of him looking us in the eye and making a straight answer.

Yeah about the camps though calc i was prety disapointed with the scout response and if they are spearheading that front i dont think we have a good chance of a camp overhaul.

"With the removal of the need for camps to call pets many Scouts and Rangers have begun to consider camping unnecessary, as everything they use a camp for (healing, calling pets, vehicles and mounts) is better accomplished through another game feature. What do the Devs see as the primary reason for calling camps in the wild, and what do they think is necessary to make camping a more useful skill in the game?"

That is a great question, especially since the core needs and design of camps has changed so dramatically. We think the best ideas we have to make camps more useful are from the community. One aspect to consider here though is that the scout profession is a novice profession and while some attention will be on making it a fun experience, the core effort will inevitably be placed on elite professions. That doesn’t mean we are going to abandon scouts for sure. As new players come into the game, these novice professions represent their initial game experience so it is important and we want to make it as fulfilling an experience as possible.

Hmm i didnt like this response at all. They said they would make scout fun thats all realy but the main part of the answer was saying elite professions will be looked at first.
A camp revamp will effect both professions alot and for scout to get a camp revamp they need our help as we are the elite or scouts (the main elite) and for us to get em we will need scouts because they have the numbers, we dont.
In other words for any improvement in the camp department we will need to work together and there is no point 'hitching a ride' on the back of the scout push because chances are they wont get anything unless other elite professions push for the same thing.

i pretty much came to the same conclusion as you, at first... didn't like the response...but i read it a few more times.. and what i think he meant by "One aspect to consider here though is that the scout profession is a novice profession and while some attention will be on making it a fun experience, the core effort will inevitably be placed on elite professions." is that the camps do indeed need to be changed, but at the scout level (novice profession) those changes might not be as apparent as they would to a ranger (elite profession)... basically, scout camps will get changed/improved, but the really cool stuff will be reserved for the rangers...

that's my second... or third... or... i lost count, but it's my current take on what he said...

Once again,

this is one of those things where my faith is boosted a little, its nice to know that we are being looked at in terms of combat and hunting viability in the combat rebalance issue.

Im a very patient person, and while Ranger isnt what I want it to be, I still have a lot of fun being one.
