Hey Calc, check out this link The Top 5 Bug Responses

It's the dev responses to our top 5 bug report. They mention the ultimate creature hunter to try and justify why they took our camo vs npc's away.

I this the statement you were referring to?

  • With this vision to follow we can finally focus our efforts and push for greater Creature Combat potential for our profession!

That was not something the Devs wanted, but something us Rangers want(ed). NRaas was using the current state of affairs at the time (camo nerf) as a platform for asking for the Creature combat mods we want(ed). The fact is, we are still not ( and probably never will be)Creature killers, but Creature Hunters. That being said, I think we can still ask for defense and even offense mods, and stay under the Creature Hunter philospohy. If we start asking for damage dealing (not state dealing)Ranger-only weapons, then we stray into the realm of Creature Killers. These are just my opinions.

i agree completely.. i may enjoy the talk of the bow and arrow, but i don't want something like that to get in the way of what we really want...

my biggest fear is that we will concentrate our efforts too strongly on only one branch of our skill tree, and we will get pigeon-hold into it... ranger should be a versatile profession, and we should have bonuses from all our skills... i don't want to give the devs any notion that we are simply "harvest machines" or "creature killers"... we should be much more than that...

I was referring to
  • The developers have deemed our profession to be the Ultimate Creature Hunters.

But then I didn't realise you were differentiating Creature Hunter with Creature Killer, so it was just my misunderstanding really.

More into that point though, how are the two different? Hunting is the process of tracking and then killing, whether it be creatures (Hunter) or people (Bounty Hunter). So to be the ultimate (man I hate that term) creature hunter don't we have to kill the creature?

It is these professions that I feel will be nerfed come the combat rebalance not the majority of Combat Professions.

The rebalance includes a new ham system, supposed to strictly limit the usage of specials. A nerf for all combat professions, being on autofire instead of using specials all the time ofc will make ALL combat professions less useful.

If this will be as bad (limitwise) as I expect, the release date of that publish will probably be also the day I will pick up crafting .

I agree that killing a creature should be part of the Rangers' repetoire. Too bad the Devs love to point out that we can get a combat profession to bring the creatures down. We need to convince them otherwise . I am all for Creature to hit bonuses, et al. but I don't think we should get directcombat skills per se.

I think that rather than a direct damage dealing ability linked to the rangers, we should be able to affect their statuses with the following.

Traps:

Modular traps that with various types of resources and semi-common loot, would be able to create longer lasting, multiple effects on the creature. The OQ and Mal would be the base stats that we would want when crafting these highly deadly traps. This would add a very personal touch to each ranger, we would each create traps that assist in the way that we hunt.

Innate Abilities:

Disease/ Poison resists: ie...the /survival instinct

Critical Strike: this % chance will deal damage directly related to the level of the ranger using any weapon that they are certified for.

+to hit: Applying to melee rangers as well

Creature Dodge skill

Poison Harvesting

Lay Ground Traps

Detect Ground Traps

This is all i can think of right now

They could resolve this by improving the trapping line. Do 3 things:

1. Remove limits on what level of creatures can be "trapped"

2. Introduce a Master or level 4 trap that is a poisen dot. Allow us to toss and wait. Kind of like a CM.

3. Give us an "area trap" that can be used against herds versus one animal.

These are not absolute but fixing lines we already have is a good start and eliminates the ranged weapon question.

But ranger should have better PvE applications... but we'll save that discussion for another thread.

I believe that melee professions make creature hunters. Melee damage mitigation, unless I am mistaken, reduces damage inflicted by creatures as well... I am currently working on master pikeman/0-0-4-4 ranger with some other defense dabbling for a strong PvE Wookiee.

Again not a nerf to Combat Professions. But a nerf to ALL specials in general. Many special skills in game take a considerate amount of Ham but are not considered "combat" skills. These include burst run, surveying, mask scent. Yet all of these will be changed in the Ham Rebalance as well. And since when will a new ham system "nerf" all existing classes? Many classes are overpowered as it stands because they are able to spam there specials at the 1.0 speed cap due to the currently borked Ham system. In the new Rebalance the system will punish those who "spam" specials and benefit classes who currently suffer because they cannot continuously fire off special attacks. So no not ALL combat professions will be made useless. Just the ones that are currently not working as intended.

I would love to see a Ranger specific weapon.....I suggested a High tech Bowway back....But the idea never caught on....and we had(have) more pressing matters

Would like to see a hunting knife....although it would favor fencer a bit....Bow based of another mod is probably the best idea i had....but i doubt the devs will even consider it untill well into NEXT year....afterall they are bussy little bee's

Currently planning 3 publishes and an expansion release, Spending the next 3 publishes to fix and balance the expansion....Then Picking some random profession to revamp(probably one of the new ones) and spending a publish on it.....Then The Anouncement of the next expansion(BH Wars, and another planet)at E3.....3 more publishes down getting ready for that one....

...Or they could fix us next week, Who knows?
