Thread: Heavy Hunting Weapon

While I agree that Ranger does need a profession specific weapon (of sorts)

the truth is that we rangers are a combat support class. I like the seed of the idea...which has been mentioned before (the composite high-tech bow, the trap launcher, elephant gun...etc)

The main problem that I see with your idea is this, once again, this focuses on the ranged rangers, the pistoleers, rifle-(persons) and carbineers, the melee rangers, like me and a host of others, dont even get the +to hit creatures in the tracking line.

While some time in the future I will be a rifleman, I dont want to be pigeon holed into a particular combat class.

The ranger weapon should (in my opinion) enhance our abilities as hunters, something to deliver a poison or a disease to the animal at a range.

If we were to get a ranger styled heavy weapon, we would face the exact same problems that the BH's do with their LLC. Slow, inaccurate and ranging wildly in combat.

While I do want rangers to get something specific and unique, I think that the trap launcher is probably the best idea out there so far.

i was a master rifleman zab stats are 1000 600 900 in the mind pool i could conceal shot all day off one brandy at a time rifleman ranger are the ideal combo cuz as a rifle man at 65 m and the target mover 5 m away its a bytch to crawl after it, rangers crawl speed is insane, and as a MRM you can take down enraged rancors in about a min of concealing shot. if i want to go all our for my mind i get a master musicaian buff a few cana. and brandy and my will power will be over 3 k, get a quick jawa speed sliced and add a +32 speed power up to it and theres almost nothing i cant take down in about 30 seconds (save for theGDK's took me damn near 35 mins of conceal shotit to take one down )

And I have to say it over and over: It's wrong. A master Rifleman/Master Ranger will out-harvest any other "template" besides maybe a master heavy swordsman/master ranger (just because the swordsman has the corpses lying around him ).

I shoot every second with every special. What's 'too slow' about this ?

And I outharvest TKM on some specific ressources any time. Dath Herbivore meat as an example, the mobs I search for hunting this have 100% kinetic resists .

TKM is nice for many targets, but the limitation to only one damagetype limits them somewhat.

And this is why your Profession is getting *Combat Balanced*.

Yeah but not every Combat Profession is getting nerfed.

What if you were to get a certificate for a melee and a ranged weapon? I would think that would make us all happy.

All combat professions will be nerfed, yet none of them will. I think the rebalance will make things much better. However, many will complain becuase they can't 1-shot everything, and that PvP killstake 2 minutes instead of 1. But the opposite side of that is, NO ONE will be able to 1 shot everything (I think). I think it will make weapon choice much more in depth than picking a damage type. These are just my ramblings, take the for what they are worth .

Add to this that the VK has just light AP and most if not all 'big game' in this game has *at least* medium armor, a riflemans medium ap or heavy ap depending on the weapon does help too .

You might visit the Krayt graveyard once in a while. At least on eclipse you will find that those 'successful' there are usually groups made up of riflemen.

I dunno about you, but when I'm looking to fill a contract I don't hunt the big game. Sure, you might get 1000 meat out of that Krayt, assuming you're soloing said Krayt and you're a master Ranger- but it also took you 10-15 minutes to kill it. Meanwhile I've harvested 2000 meat from squills and dune lizards nearby. It's all about volume.

Thing is, I hunt what I consider as fun. No matter if more efficient or not (I btw never ever would take a contract about a 'fixed' amount).
That's why I even IF it might make more sense in specific case avoid to touch those missionterminals, why I prefer wandering around instead of biking etc pp.

It's not all about the cash, even if the cash might help :-).

Btw, even IF krayt hunting is not about ressources most of the time, I feel it is in some way 'our turf' our should be. Last time I checked we are supposed to be the ultimate creature hunters, aren't we :-)?

BUT, no one ever said anything about us being the ultimate creature killers!

Right, that's why I picked rifleman as combat profession. As of now it's from the existing combat professions the most 'versatile' one in terms of 'ultimate creature killing' (Pistols have access to more damagetypes, admitted. But as most pistoleer specials are broken besides a few ...)

To be nerfed a specific in game mechanic must be altered in a way that it is made to be less useful and or less potent. Several combat professions have broken or useless specials that arent working as intended. Other professions have several working specials and by the majority of the player base are considered the standard for all other professions of that type. Furthermore there are recently changed "Fotm" professions. These professions are currently recieving an advantage do to some Developers complete lack of forsight on the issues of Pvp and Balance. It is these professions that I feel will be nerfed come the combat rebalance not the majority of Combat Professions.
