The other branches in the same tree look open, but I don't think you can actually get training for one of them unless you do the relevant unlock quest for it.
Correct. If you ask Noldan (Or is it Paemos? One of the two.) which lines you can learn in, he lists only those you have unlocked, even if you have novice.

yep- it's 160k.
The FS skills don't seem to be that hard to get - it takes me about 2 buff sessions to max my scouting xp on dath, and I can max my rifle xp in one buff session (hunting on dath). What I've been doing is banking my scouting xp in the hope that in the next phase I'll be able to unlock something that I can apply it towards.

To be honest it's true it's annoying we can't fully use our xp for survival...but in the end it doesn't seem to make an enoumous difference. I still hunt as a ranger , though I'm using a lot of traps all of a sudden, if anything there's a bit more of an objective other than making money from harvesting.
Still having fun
True, most Rangers will be fine without being able to use their Scout xp for FS. Combat xp is the fastest way to do it anyway. But there are non-combat Rangers who might want those bonuses. I currently use my Squad Leader xp forreflex xp (at a conversion of 90:1--I actually get more xp from using a pistol than I do from using any of my main skills). I can survive. But what about Rangers that don't have combat professions (for example, a BE/Ranger, an Artisan Crafter/Ranger, or even a CH/Ranger [that doesn't take supplementary combat skills])? They are Rangers as well. They should be able to get the FS bonuses that apply to Ranger.

Sounds about right. It's somewhere near that. It's double what the original xp cost was (they raised it some time back when they lowered survival xp requirements but didn't change the caps).
