Thread: Beyond Master Ranger?

That is basically all there is to it. I don't want to split the resources we have (i.e. the devs) anymore than they are.

My feedback? I don't want anything after Master Ranger. Elite-elite professions do not interest me. I, like most others want the devs focusing on existing issues. If we convice them to add new profssions, all the old ones get neglected. We are already getting neglected, do we want to add more work to distract the devs? I don't.
I want them focusing on the issues at hand too. But that does not prevent us, the ranger community, from batting ideas around.
Also, I would rather see enhancements to this profession instead of sticking them intoa new one.
These ideas WOULD be enhancements to this profession. Consider it like this. At novice ranger you go up some skill trees like frontiering and trapping which enhance your ranger abilities in a certain way. Some people choose to go up just one tree and some choose all. They choose whichever suits their playstyle. What I am proposing is no different. It is merely after Master Ranger, you get a new set of Specialized skills to explore. The devs have stated they will not change this profession to a military ranger profession. Ok. So be it. But how about giving us one skill tree/Prestige Class/Alternate Advancement/Elite-Elite to explore that would allow those of us who want that military ranger the option of having it, and those who want the creature hunter, the ability to do that. The only difference would be that you would have a few more skills to better suit your chosen branch of ranger. Face it. There is no way the devs will fit all that stuff from the Outdoorsman into the Ranger profession as it stands now. So the higher level abilities from the Outdoorsman proposal can be placed in the Outdoorsman Prestige Class, and the skills, weaponry, and abilities better suited for the military ranger can be placed in that branch. I don't see how this takes away from the Ranger profession at all. I think it adds to it and gives you something more to do after you have mastered Ranger. You could have some unique profession distinct quests to go on for the Outdoorsman Prestige Class, the Military Ranger Prestige Class, and if they were to include it, the Antarian Ranger Prestige Class. It just gives you more to do after you Master, instead of being just a meat harvester for everyone.

I'm all for creative discussion, Rohm. I think you've got some decent ideas, once you've expanded a bit. Well, tell me how to expand and I will.
But at the end of the day, I still don't like it. If we eventually get the profession we want, and all the other professions are fixed and everything is balanced, and there's plenty of new content.. If all of these things come to pass, I still do not want a "prestige" profession after Master Ranger. While, yes, it gives veterans something to shoot for, it also widens the gap between veterans and new players. I saw it in UO, when they introduced power scrolls which could raise your skill limits to up to 120. We need more options, sure. I'll agree there.. But the options should come in the way of content. A similar idea that doesn't bother me as much is along the lines of special abilities bought with extra XP, and requiring quests.
I could have sworn that was that I stated. You earn those extra abilities in Outdoorsman, Military Ranger, and Antarian Ranger by running quests and earning extra Prestige points to get said abilities. Iseveryone actually reading the entire thread before posting?
It would make us unique, but it wouldn't be a whole other tree (albeit a limited one). Someone else suggested specialty items and such.. while I'm not as much for that idea, it does have it's own potential, so long as the items are unique.. It would bore me to tears if every Master Rifleman had the same uber untradeable rifle. It would become just another step along the way.
Essentially, you're not going beyond the bar. You're raising it, and it doesn't need to be raised.
In your opinion. In my opinion, I am trying to do a service to the community by offering a creative direction for Ranger. If you choose to disagree with it then thats fine. A lot of people here are fighting their side and saying they don't want anything after Master Ranger. Well, I am doing the same thing. I WANT more to do after Master Ranger. And just because we disagree that doesn't make either of us right or wrong. We just have a difference of opinion. Thats all.
now that you have put it that way, im really excited about continuing this coversation
but im going to keep going
AR- if the fs rangers were part of the Ar back then it shouldnt be a chosen class. you shouldnt be able to get force abilitys just by grinding a ranger tree. if you are going to do that you should treat it the same as the fscs and make AR a new jedi class.

It's ok man, I get what you are saying. Thanks for bringing some new content into the boards.

AR- Well, I was thinking you could run a set amount of quests to be able to gain abilities as an Antarian Ranger/Outdoorsman/Military Ranger. That way, no one can truly "Grind" to get to the top of the new skill tree. Limit it to like x amount of quests per day/per week. I agree that no grinding shouldbe involved AT ALL in this type of thing. And I am not sure an Antarian Ranger would work too well as another jedi class. I mean, in the history of the AR, they didn't get accepted into the Jedi order cause they were not strong enough in the force, but they did have some minor skills. Here. Just in case not everyone is familiar with the AR, I'll put the link up so you can check em out.

It's an interesting read and I think some of it could be adapted to the fit in with this game.

1). The Big Game hunter would recieve additional traps that would cause a bleed effect/poison or some form of DOT and would recieve additional amounts of resources harvested. As they progressed in the boxes, they would recieve a "crippiling strike" that would do high damage and would prevent the animal from using it's special attacks.
2). The Antarian Rangers often were students of the Force, sometimes Jedis that failed their training. Thus, as you said, they should gain certain immunities to force attacks. However, they have also sworn to protect the Jedis. As such, they should have an ability to cloak a Jedi from Bounty Hunters droids as well as a special camo pack to remove a TEF. Perhaps also the presence of a Antarian Ranger would have a positive effect on a Jedi (faster Force Regeneration?) Antarian Rangers should also recieve an ability like "center" or the meditation that TKA's have that would represent their connection to the Force.
3) Combat Rangers should recieve attacks that can be used with any weapon. These would represent our knowledge of the world around us. Effects such as a "poison" that could be put on the blade of the weapon Much like how you can craft power-ups to enhance weapons, I think that these should be temporary effects that can be applied again and again. or somehow used with a ranged weapon, as well as attacks that showed our proficiency with creature knowledge (such as a blinding shot) would make use of our knowledge of animal physiolody and could be used in PvP and PvE as well. They would also get a bonus to the /conceal skill

i was being sarcastic ;P
and on the ar thing it seems unfair to have some peoplebe even associated with the jedi simply by a choice and others made to work and unlock the jedi prof.

Ahh, sarcasm through a textual environment. Yeah, thats kinda lost on me for the most part.

Not quite sure I understand your meaning here. Would you care to elaborate?
