Thread: What is a Ranger?
The problem is when you're a Ranger *and* a Wookiee.

Granted /rescue isnt great but everytime I have used it it has worked. Especially once when my wookie guildie was getting eaten by some huurtons after they knocked him down. I laughed as he yelled "Get them off me!" Then I just waved my arms and they came a running. Rare occasion to use it but I still kinda like it.
Here's an idea that would fitthe hunter concept of ranger (which seems to me to be the idea behind the skill), and also make is more of a PvE asset. The concept is that we understand creatures very well, and therefore we should be able to pass that on to players within our group.
Two things I can think of that would arise from this, one is a creature harvesting bonus to the whole group - as the Ranger could tell everyone what to get. I would imagine that as a passive skill, and not something the ranger would need to be group leader for - leaving room for a squad leader too.
Second is a to-hit bonus, this I could see as a command. Sort of like volleyfire for the squad leader, but you direct them to hit a certain area of the creature that you know is vulnerable. I imagine a ranger shouting 'shoot it's head' or something similar, and the hit bonus goes up.
I can't see any issues with this, but I do understand that the squad leaders want volleyfire to taget specific pools, which would make it similar or identical to my proposal. I don't want tread on their toes, I'm a squad leader myself. So another form of creature hit bonus, maybe a passive one, might be a better idea.
What do you think?

Well according to the original SWG Adventure Manual(came with the game)a Ranger is an Adventurer well-suited to travel, tracking, and defending others in combat.
Waitaminute did i just type that out right...Combat????
Answer that one DEVs
Wait a sec... where'd you get that?
DANGER DANGER!!! SOMEONE IS READING THE MANUAL... QUICK NERF HIM... NERF HIM AND EVERYTHING HE STANDS FOR!!!
What's that line ... something like "actual gameplay experience may differ?"
Don't worry though we're workin on it. All those Scout and Ranger Alpha testers are pretty on key folks.
I certainly wouldn't want to disagree with them!

Now if only there was interaction with the Devs involved instead of just lecturing......
I'd also recommend you check out all the descriptions on the Ranger and Scout skill trees. And I think it might no longer be that Ranger is not a combat profession but that Ranger is outside the scope of the CU. Subtle difference (and not much help now) but it's a start.

Ranger = Totally ignored by Devs,
Totally ruined by CU Skill Point increases in combat elite requirements,
Totally mis-labelled as loners,
Totally mis-understood in their role,
Totally abused by BH who just want tracking (use the damn droid, thats what its for).
Basically... Totally (Insert Expletive Here)
sigh.
Just get them to ditch the level thing and I'll tough it out.
As if.
