All right ya buncha painty waisted snivelers and whiners (just kidding, relax, read on, got your attention) the harvesting nerf is fixed.

Now scouts will be flooding the markets with hides, meat, bone... prices will drop into the toidy for these items as they become less rare. Will other prices fall, no. Will I need to find another job --- nah, missions pay better than straight hunting anyhow.

But I swear the first person who whines about there every Tom, **edit** and Harry being able to uberharvest stuff, I will find him and paint his pet. Woe unto him if he does not have apet either, I will buy him one then paint it.

You asked for it, you got it -

You know it's coming. Something about being careful what you wish for comes to mind.

Me? I just quit hunting until the change comes. It would be nice if we could count on a little stability from month to month. It seems like 75% of the game is figuring out what got changed and what got broken every 72 hours. It's becoming tedious.

What really annoys me is that many Rangers use the argument of 'credits' to back how good this is. To put it bluntly: I am a Ranger. I don't give two craps about money as long as I have/had enough to put gear on my back. If wealth is what drives you, perhaps Ranger is not the profession for you. Maybe you'd be more happy as a merchant.

This is the sort of response that annoys me. People have their own view of what a ranger is and should be and try to force that view on others. I've never seen any formal description of a ranger similar to yours yet I see it all over the place on these forums. Where is it from?

Since all the best items in the game are craftable, the only way to get them is via credits. It's just like a real economy (unlike EQ et. al.) where money actually means sometihng. I like having money in case I see that really low HAM composite armor or super duper vibroknucklers that I won't be able to get any other way. On the flip side, I don't want to have to buy a house for the sole purpose of storing my camo kit ingredients- I like being homeless as it were. If you aren't interested in money, don't sell your hides or sell them uber cheap. But don't tell me what not to be interested in. /soapbox

- I agree with you sbjnyc, there is no one true definition of this profession.

- How the skill system is laid out in this game allows us to define the profession however we feel.

- Some people may want the Aragorn Ranger... Others a Paramilitary Ranger... Still others the Ranging Hermit.

- The problem is: All these definitions are correct.

- The developers never wrote up a specific description of the profession (unless there is one in the manual somewhere), simply sothe playercould choose how they define themselves.

- However we choose to play this profession, there will always be someone else who will play it from a completely different perspective.

- We must compromise and keep the profession flexible enough to accomodate all these styles.

I approve of the harvesting reduction for groups, as it allows each member to harvest.

I do not approve of the harvesting reduction for solo players, as it now takes forever to collect a decent amount of hide. Somebody mentioned they'd received 3,000 hide in six hours by hunting a specific critter. Before the nerf I spent six hours hunting on Yavin 4, and managed to collect 8,500 hide in six hours hunting assorted creatures. After the patch I spent six hours hunting on Tattoine, and only managed to collect 1,500 leather. Ugh. I haven't yet returned to Yavin, as I haveno faith in masking or concealing actually keeping me alive as it once did.

Further, before the nerf, I was providing a few thousand hides a week to a local tailor. Since the nerf (a week and a half), I've managed to provide 2,500 hides total. I've had to start extracting and selling duralloy steel to make any money, 'cause bone collecting isn't doing the trick any longer.

Regarding soloing, I resent the suggestion that solo players dislike social interaction. Wrong. For social interaction, I get together with friends multiple times during the week, face to face, real time, live, in person. This is a game. I've made friends (rather my character has made friends) with other characters, and some of my RL friends are also in game. We all solo, and we all get together in game from time to time. The times I solo are when I'm exploring, i.e. just running across a planet to see what pops up on my overhead map. A lot of folks I've met in game find this boring, which is why I do it on my own. But even while doing our own thing, we constantly send tells to one another, or talk in guild chat. Don't assume that solo players are anti-social. It's insulting.

I'm still climbing the ranks of the lower skills. I seem to craft an awful lot of things in the field, from camps to traps to stims. Between the reduction in harvests and the increase in costs for the camps and traps, I seem to have gone from working with a slight resource profit to working on a deficit. I've had to curtail some of my crafting and trapping to make room for more straight killing and harvesting. While I can deal with that, I prefer the way it was before, because it allowed me to spend more time on interesting, challenging fights, and less time popping hordes of weenie-MOBs just to restock my supplies.

It sounds like the massive solo reduction isn't working as intended. I hope when it is working as intended, I will be able to operate like I did before.

Guys,

Don't get your panties in too much of a bunch over this issue. It's all going to get fixed. The Devs are working on it.
