So i went back to pistols. No, I was not killing Chunkers in Dearic, I was taking on real animals - well, as real as they get, and winning. Didn't have to pull my pistol too many times.TK is for some, not for me. Altho fencer/swords is looking cool.JB
You have to buffed to wear heavy composite but not everything. 2500+ buffs with 80% composite is the fad for the uber kids now and sadly its changed the armor market. You see so many people running around in full composite its hard to remember that there are other types of armor, and most smiths don't even make them anymore. I've even talked to some armorsmiths who know less about other armor types than I do
I learned how to hunt before that was as common as it is now. I've had the same professions since I started playing and have never relied on 80% composite or buffs to hunt. I wear advanced Ubese for hunting which, if expiremented right, has low resists to everything except kinetic, which I've seen as high as 70% unsliced. A good smith will make it without a heavy encumberance and every race can wear a full suit easily.
Still I rarely need to use specials on creatures anyway. You just need to compare damage output vs input. Creatures have a lot more HAM than npc's but do not hit as hard and are limited to kinetic damage, where as NPC's are the opposite. With specials, you're likely to do more damage to yourself trying to wear down a high ham creature than if you just hit the thing. With NPC's its kill them before they kill you.
With just my hammer and ubese I can solo rancors, unbuffed, no food, no stims. I don't even have novice medic. Real Rangers don't need it
That said, melee professions vary as much as ranged do. I can hunt the way I do because I rely on swordsman's high damage output to attack, and only use specials like Center of Being to increase defenses or Intimidate to reduce their damage. A Teras Kasi on the other hand, would have to hunt differently and would probably be better off not wearing armor and using specials for status effects and higher damage. It really has a lot to do with your own style and profession more than anything else. In the end its whatever gets the job done I guess.

It works against bigger beasts where novice medic didn't heal fast enough.I use camps to heal wounds and to recover that bit faster between fights. If I was riflewoman I'd probably take novice medic, but I like fencer!
Just because you are melee doesnt mean you arent a "Real Ranger". I, as well as a few of my other Ranger members are TKM's with the Master Ranger title. We deffinitely consider ourselves "Real Rangers". Remember....Ranger isnt just a profession...it a way of life brother.

0000 medic and some kickass stim B. Considering I only have 16 points left over, if I drop medic, that doesn't really buy me anything, the best spent way seemed novice medic.

Medic 1000 to use stims in the heat of the battle, HTFB camps to rest wounds and a friand to hear a song and lower BF.
No buffs, and ubese armor (65-70% kinetic) only if aherd of creatures cathes me.-

Dont forget that last bastion of healing.. I have a pixie and a muon on hotkey... spices dont take up stomach space, gives a good boost if you need it in an emergency, and can heal up mind too..
Suppressionfire is also wonderful, combined with warningshot you can make a mob of MOBs dance around the field of battle..
Another thing I am experimenting with is a tankbot.. one or two combat modules and the rest (5 or 6) of the modules as self repair modules.. turn on the autorepair and it heals itself in combat.. send it in first to get the agro from the critter and then plink away at range..

Theres a food buff that adds 1000 pts to health/ action/ mind for 7 or so minutes.
forgot the name, but its "fortitude of the gungan warlords" on the modifier display.
that will help out event the most distressful situation.

"Real Rangers don't wear armor" is BS. You guys don't get it, I wear armor so I don't have to heal myself in the first place. I don't get hurt that much. Sure, a nice suit can cost 100K or more but it will last for months. Novice Medic on the other hand costs 15 skill points, which do you think costs more?

I know that I won't hunt without buffs or armor. Obviously there are cases where I do fine, but for the most part, I am addicted. I also run on a full belly of mind enhancing food and drink.

A Ranger is always prepared. Buffs and Novice Medic aside, a good selection of foods and drinks can keep your HAM healthy enough for combat specials and, if the need should arise, a good burst run.
I survived on Endor for a whole month with only foods and drinks to keep me healthy. Ran out of stims a week earlier. But consider this a forewarning, a ranger can quickly develop into an alcoholic with a full crate of brandy in his pack.
