Thread: Why no waypoints for the new explorer missions...BLAA!
Hate to reiterate... but,
Think of the explorer missions like the trappers back in the wilderness days. You get a task to kill "x" number or animals (not total skin, bones ...etc but total animals) and when you kill that number you get paid. Ignore the waypoint, the purpose is for you to travel around killing a certain species until the specificed number is met. The old trappers didn't have a waypoint, they just traveled into the wilderness to get "pelts". Finished 2 last night on tat. One to harvest 45 cu pas and the other to kill 30 boars. Killed them both and got cash in my account. Not fast, but is nice incentive to roam the planet. Probably a good idea to see whats spawning regularly on your planet to keep yourself from running around and never seeing anything.
Also, the taking destroy missions from the reg missionterminal for your "kill" is a great idea. You get credits and numbers toward the hunting missions.

Interestingly, killing babies counts toward your goal!
not for long ... they're onto us baby killas!
(:
I've seen Veermoks near Moenia, close to the Narglatch cave.
And AmAvocet beat me to it: babies count. (just to confirm that)
Take an exploration mission to kill a certain type of creature. Walk over to a normal mission terminal and take a destroy mission to kill the creature you are looking for. Kills 2 birds with one stone, and gives the exploration challenged folks a nice shiny waypoint. =)

The only problem is that you won't get 45 critters out of one spawn base, but hey, ya make a couple k off the missions you use to find the ones you need for the exploration mission, so if you're working on getting up scouting/weapons xp, this is a great way to do it and earn a good amount of pocket change at the same time.

It was a little upsetting to not get any waypoints or explanation of why there wasn't any, but after my initial frustration because I wasn't sure what I was suppose to be doing, I stopped and read the mission more intently. I suddenly became clear that they were ask for a specific number of kills of a certain type creature for some reason. The mission doesn't care where you get them from you just need to get the required number of specific creature listed.
This does not exclude your getting them through other mission. In other words, if you take an explorer mission say for Vynocks, you can take a general mission for Vynocks and the kill goes for both missions and on top of it you get paid while your doing because you will finish several general missions in the process of fulfilling the Explorer mission. If you kill any other creatures of the specific one listed in the Explorer mission on your way out to and back from the general mission you still gain the on the count required on the Explorer mission. Thus you don't just have to run around hunting down this one specific animal, which I am very glad for, because it would get very frustrating at times when you continually don't find this specific creature for a while. Thus by combining the effects of the two types of missions you know you will find the creatures you need and you will still be able to gain credits while working on the much larger and longer Explorer missions.

Last night when I took my first exploration mission, and was wondering how the heck i was going to find 45 Spiked Krevoles, I wandered over to the regular mission terminal at the Theed Starport, and tried to find a Krevole destroy mission. I'm wondering if it was just a bug that that particular terminal doesn't show the name of the critter you're being sent to kill, or if all the regular terminals are like this now to prevent the mass killing of certian animals over others.
Can anyone confirm if the creature name has been taken out of the destroy missions on all regular mission terminals?

Oooooh...... Orcomage.
Excellent idea !
Now why didn't I think of that!
I took my first Explorer mission last night and after a few minutes of frustration I think I figured it out. I used Ctrl+V to find the WP on the planetary map, clicked it to activate and found it to be about 2.6 clicks SE of Mos Ethna. It was not in the center of the map, but located logically. I killed some Mobs of the correct type prior to reaching the WP but got no update. Once I hit the WP and began looking around I found a nice lair of Rock Beetles (the mission objective). Took 2 lairs to get the 45 andmade 9700 c's.
However the best part I found was:
Got tons of Wayfaring experience, I am assuming from negotiating so much terrain.
Got 1,000 units of 940 OQ Scaly hide which I am selling for another 3-5k credits
Got 3k camp xp from 45 minutes total camping time. (Rock Beetles hit the poop out of my action bar)
Got to see some very cool parts of Tatooine that I had never seen before.
Found some nice concentrations of Ffrik Aluminum
Basically I had a blast. I love doing these missions and will continue to run them. I plan on trying to do a 3-4 day adventure out of them (assuming I don't need a cantina) starting tomorrow. Sort of like a Jim Bridger expedition. Definitely a huge plus in the Ranger development IMO.
Now please give me tracking!!
The Hunt missions are for the types of players that like to "just go out and see the sights." For me, I like to go from city to city by foot. So I will take two far away cities (ie Theed to Kaadara) and hoof it across the planet.
So I can now grab some extra credits while doing this. Assuming I pick a creature that is native to the area I am traveling. (ie you wont find many Sharputs in the mountians in Southern Naboo)
As for the pay out. It seems based on two things. First, the level of the creature (which is based on the weapon you are using when getting the mission.) And the number of creatures kills. For me the payouts are as follows:
- 15 creatuers -- 2500cr
- 30 creatures -- 5000cr
- 45 creatures -- 10000cr
So each "tier" of creatures to kill is a doubling of credits. (FWIW this is with a few levels of an Elite Combat class)
