Thread: If you could build a camp that did something other than heal, what would it be/do?

Why not have a module that can be added to higher camps that is a portable cloning facility? Would still cost to clone there (maybe even with increased fees), but then whenyou die you spawn back at the camp. Of course this assumes the camp doesn't auto-disband when you entire combat.

D'OH, I knew I missed something in my originaloutpost idea. Portable "Cloning Center". I had that in as well, just forgot...

I'm mostly Rifle but I am trying out unarmed as well, so I know how you feel. The deal with the port-a-fort was to help with rebel/imp outposts that the NPC's get and can defend positions from. I'm sure there will be times for melee in there.

Skeena I completely disagree,

Just because other aspects need focus doesn't mean that this doesn't deserve looking into.

I think Rangers should be able to settup barriers, camouflaged bunkers that aid in blending into the enviroment that 2-3 people could be in and get defensive bonus/ obstructions to cause the enemy to have to go around something to get to you.

I, personally, think that a master ranger should have the know how on how a creature would act when coerced..etc.. therefore could build a trap/camp that could use that knowledge to his benefit. Possibly, an MASTER structure that is ranger benefitial only, and one that is less effective but adds the benefit to your group. This would have PvP and PvE, value. Look, I'll rescue you while in my deffensive camp/bunker kit!

Just a question, what wounds to you ever get that warrants so much medical attention from our field kits? I almost NEVER go into medical centers. A meleeing Rifleman is a dead one! The only thing that I need to get taken care of from time to time is BF, and that is slow too, let enterainers keep there job and give them tips, I don't want a camp that removes the need for another class.

I'm not sure I really understand your point, sjrdriz. However, the problem with a fixed blind or bunker is that mobs aren't all that mobile in SWG. As you know, they tend to concentrate around a lair, rarely moving far from their spawn point. As such, you would have to put up a new blind every 10-15 mobs which strikes me as rather tedious.

I am also somewhat biased against this concept as I play a highly mobile ranger. My battle strategy involves a lot of trapping, kiting and repositioning for maximum damage to the mob and minimum damage to me. In this respect, hunkering down in a defensive bunker, while practical, goes against the grain of how I, personnally, tend to hunt.

In any event, the idea is not without merit. All I was trying to say is that camps are not nearly as broken as other aspects of the profession. Therefore, would rather see the discussion focus on how we can improve rangder abilities that are totally borked or compeltely non-existant at the moment.

Skeena,

You misunderstood me. I'm not asking what you want in current camps, I'm asking what kinds of new camps you would like to have - what would they do?

Work based on the assumption that current camps are getting fixed.

............ dude, you're a ranger.. Not a **edit**ing military installation commander. No way in hell should camps get radar enhancers, turrets, or cloning centers.. Rangers ROUGH it..they don't have all the things of life.. that's like taking a TV camping..

I take it you haven't gotten to your Field Base yet? You'll have a heart attack when you see a High Tech Field Base..

Deffinatly want a camp, at Master Ranger level, with cloning capabilities. Only useable by 'closest cloning facility', non-'bindable', and only for group members.

I like the idea of an upgraded single-person camp also, I'm constantly plopping camps down just for myself - getting a small one which uses less resources and has a better regen rate than the scout ones would be nice.

Those are the only 'new' camps I want - but I would like to see our Field Base and above camps made semi-permenant, so we can leave them up for the medics etc, and come back to them later.

I think the 2 field bases should repel aggro - They are supposed to anyway.

Maybe in the high tech FB battle fatigue could be healed, it looks better than most cantinas after all

The field bases should be just that, field bases. They shouldnt disband until the ranger disbands them, or is away for a significant amount of time (30 mins maybe).

I like the power idea you brought up.

I am not interested in the extra "camo" idea, unless there is a new camp designed that provides this, I would much rather have them repel aggro and not disband.

Faction Camps - I kind of like the idea that maybe at Frontieering I the Ranger gets the ability to make two faction camps for Imperial and Rebel (or even just for Rebel) both with seperate graphics. This camp would have some defensive ablilities like turrets. However, not some not the hugeturrets you see on Poi's but small cannons which would fire at the opposing faction and hostile creatures that enter its radius. Could probably make for some intresting tactics. Possibly a neutral camp also which would only fire at mobs.

RescueCamp- Like someone said above the idea of being rescued and shuttled back to th nearest town or outpost. This camp i believe would have to be added at Master Ranger (or Frontieering IV)that would require lots of resources and only be able to be used when you are a certain distance from civilisation (something like 5000m). This would give group leaders the incentive to group Rangers which would allow people to go hunting much further afield.

Some things i don't agree on is the ability for camps to have a cloning tube, because this would detract from doctors who have their ablility to revive other players. I don't think camps should be disbanded while you are inside them. However, they should always be abandoned when you step out of them for a certain lenght of time.

a terminal in ranger camps that was connected to a terminal in cities where crafters could post orders for materials and Rangers could "fill" those orders directly from their camps.

(I posted this on the wrong thread, so I apologize if this looks familiar -helroy)

Its important to note why things like crafting stations are good for Rangers.

Here's why:

Our goal as Rangers when it comes to camps is to provide a valuable shelter in hostile territory a long way from home. Having items in our camp that make it easier for all types of players benefits us.

Our camps are what we offer to a group of players. Hopefully we will have more to offer later, but for now the camps are really our best service. Rangers do tend to solo a lot, but creating a large field base for soloing does not fall into that line of thinking. A small camp would serve that purpose. We create these larger camps to provide shelter for everyone, especially the group that we are with.

It is in our best interest for our camps to provide as many tools and comforts as possible. I would like to see all of these ideas stated previously incorporated into our camps. A mini-town if you will. If this sounds too extreme, then limit how close to an actual city it can be placed and instead create a camp more appropriate to the setting when nearby an actual city.

As it is, there is a lot of territory that is not being explored due to the dangers of dying and having to run all the way across a map to get your items back. Our super camps would allow for groups to have fun going all over the place. I don't see this as any different than any other game allow certain characters to bind where others cannot. It's a huge perk, sure, but its specific to our class, and it would define us as a class.

Thanks for listening!

I'd like to see camps that would allow entertainers heal BF.

It would also be cool if when creating your camp kit you could add optionals, like some other schematics (like crafting stations) have. One optional enhancement could be perimeter defense traps, so when a agro creature gets to close, the traps go off. Or maybe have the hunting blinds you've been mentioning be an optional enhancement to the camp kit.

Provide a waypoint on demand so that all people can see regardless of whether they have it or not. Kinda like a safe-haven in the wilderness....
